About this listing

The space

We've been interviewed by airbnb and Wired Magazine for being highly rated hosts!

This is a large private room with a queen size bed in our home, so it's perfect for a couple or a tall person. (We live here and will be here.) It has two large sunny windows and is in the upstairs flat. A huge window faces west and our very green backyard, yet the trees give you privacy. The single bathroom is shared.

There is a garden to sit in which is surrounded by trees, flowers and colorful plants, and is visited by hummingbirds. The house is filled with colorful international artwork and photos and we have keyboards and a mandolin you can play if you're musically inclined. You're welcome to hang out in the living room and use the large modern kitchen if you want to cook something light. We have cable tv, wifi, friendly neighbors in the downstairs flat and a sweet 11 year old dog (English Setter). This has been home to 37 foreign exchange students, dozens of international travelers and many techies from famous companies.

Great area with wonderful weather, interesting shops, farmer's market, mostly family owned vs. chain shops, local events and places to hang out. Lots of scenic walks if you want to explore the famous painted Victorians, and a beautiful park with a gorgeous view of the city nearby. There are many fantastic cafes, great coffee spots and restaurants of numerous ethnicities, including at least 2 restaurants on the SF Top 100 List, within a short walk.

We're centrally located and just a few steps to public transportation. The 24th & Mission BART station is less than a 10-minute walk, and downtown is 20 minutes away by the train that stops across the street. The Castro is a 10 minute walk. UCSF campuses are about 20 minutes away. The "tech" buses that go to several well-known Silicon Valley companies stops at our corner. The very coolest area of the Mission to hang out in is a 10-15 minute walk. The main part of SOMA is about a 15-minute train ride. This is a safe neighborhood so you can go for walks late at night. Whole Foods, a high-end organic grocery with take-out food, is less than a 5-minute walk. All stores in this area are open on Sunday and all have relatively late hours.

The entire neighborhood is culturally diverse, gay friendly, full of families, happy dogs, creative type professionals and a welcoming atmosphere. We can refer you to trusted chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, etc, if you need one, and as our guest, you can visit Fit Lite right around the corner, part of the 24 Hr Fitness Club chain.

Your host is a world traveler and loves to share stories. You will feel immediately welcome.

Note: We have two additional rooms available in this house: "Cool Victorian in Cool Neighborhood" and "Victorian in Cool Neighborhood" which both have a single bed for one person only.

Please be aware that there may be 1-3 guests in addition to yourself while you are here.

You are welcome to sit in the livingroom, kitchen, and on the deck.

We are on the second floor of this building, so there are tenants living below us, and their bedroom is directly below this room. We do not wear shoes in the house out of respect to them and will kindly ask that you keep your voices and personal activities low in this particular room. The walls and floors are very thin. Thanks for understanding. They will greatly appreciate this.

I booked this airbnb while flying last minute, late at night. Marla accommodated my last minute booking, and was waiting for me with a smile! The accommodation is exactly as described and is located in a cool neighborhood with great food, just a short walk from her place. The location is very central to Mission and Castro. I enjoyed my brief stay with Marla.

Marla is very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. She is just wonderful-being there and anticipating any of my needs and giving me privacy when I needed as well. She gave perfect transportation advice as well as information on San Francisco in general. She has great taste in general...from tea she served to dining she recommended. I felt very welcomed and at home in her home. She's also a great conversationalist. Bailey is the sweetest most laid back dog.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Marla's over the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The location is absolutely perfect if you're looking to be close to everything but still want to feel like you're in a small town. The room was exactly how it looked in the pictures and the whole place felt so homey. The shared bathroom wasn't an issue at all despite there being two other Airbnb guests. Marla went out of her way to give us suggestions on where to eat and what to do. Her insider knowledge really helped us out on planning our days. We will definitely be staying here the next time we're in SF. Oh! Her dog Bailey is so adorable and friendly!

Thanks, Karrington. I'm glad I was able to help make your experience memorable. Door's always open now, ok?

We booked Marla's listing because it was two blocks from our son's house, whom we had come to visit. It is in the perfect neighborhood for twenty somethings, and we loved the vibe of the whole place. The room and bed were comfortable. The bathroom is shared with Marla and the other guests, but we had no problems in that regard. The apartment itself is on the muni line for a quick trip into the city and five short (uphill!) blocks from BART. We had to get a car for a road trip up the coast, but a car is totally not needed if you are staying here. There was a farmer's market around the corner on Saturday morning and we filled our picnic basket with food that lasted several days on our road trip. Overall, great neighborhood, generous host, good night's sleep.

Marla's place is just perfect. The room looks even better as described. The whole flat is very beautiful. We immediately felt like home. Also the location can't be better. Directly in the hip part next to the Mission. But the best of our stay was the host. Marla does not only can give you the best advices how to explore the city - we also had nice and great conversations. Thanks for all.

Marla went out of her way to make my partner and I feel welcome, the room was lovely and comfortable with lots of natural light. The area of Noe Valley was beautiful with lots of great bars and restaurants. All of Marla's recommendations were perfect and she even took us for a drive around some of San Francisco's murals to end our trip. We loved our stay here.

I have a small family-focused home and a friendly son who's away at college most the year, and a medium-size, friendly mellow old dog. We're into sports, movies, museums, music and cooking. We've done extensive world traveling and hosted 37 foreign exchange students. Everyone loved staying with us and we still have many worldwide friendships.

We're easy going, super friendly and welcoming, and will do whatever we can to make your stay memorable. We look forward to meeting new people, and enjoy seeing pictures of their family, where they live, and their favorite activities.

We believe in taking care of the environment and use only all green, all natural products in our home. We recycle, reuse, compost, grow herbs and attempt to leave a low carbon footprint.

Wherever you come from, you bring a piece of your culture and we leave with you a piece of ours. This is what enriches our lives and why we do airbnb.
