About this listing
We've been interviewed by airbnb and Wired Magazine for being highly rated hosts!
This is a large private room with a queen size bed in our home, so it's perfect for a couple or a tall person. (We live here and will be here.) It has two large sunny windows and is in the upstairs flat. A huge window faces west and our very green backyard, yet the trees give you privacy. The single bathroom is shared.
There is a garden to sit in which is surrounded by trees, flowers and colorful plants, and is visited by hummingbirds. The house is filled with colorful international artwork and photos and we have keyboards and a mandolin you can play if you're musically inclined. You're welcome to hang out in the living room and use the large modern kitchen if you want to cook something light. We have cable tv, wifi, friendly neighbors in the downstairs flat and a sweet 10 year old dog (English Setter). This has been home to 37 foreign exchange students, dozens of international travelers and many techies from famous companies.
Great area with wonderful weather, interesting shops, farmer's market, mostly family owned vs. chain shops, local events and places to hang out. Lots of scenic walks if you want to explore the famous painted Victorians, and a beautiful park with a gorgeous view of the city nearby. There are many fantastic cafes, great coffee spots and restaurants of numerous ethnicities, including at least 2 restaurants on the SF Top 100 List, within a short walk.
We're centrally located and just a few steps to public transportation. The 24th & Mission BART station is a 7-8 minute walk, and downtown is 20 minutes away by the train that stops across the street. The Castro is a 10 minute walk. UCSF campuses are about 20 minutes away. The "tech" buses that go to several well-known Silicon Valley companies stops at our corner. The very coolest area of the Mission to hang out in is a 10-15 minute walk. This is a safe neighborhood so you can go for walks late at night. Whole Foods, a high end organic grocery with take-out food, is less than a 5 minute walk. All stores in this area are open on Sunday and all have relatively late hours.
The entire neighborhood is culturally diverse, gay friendly, full of families, happy dogs, creative type professionals and a welcoming atmosphere. We can refer you to trusted chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, etc, if you need one, and as our guest, you can visit Fit Lite right around the corner, part of the 24 Hr Fitness Club chain.
Your host is a world traveler and loves to share stories. You will feel immediately welcome.
Note: We have two additional rooms available: "Cool Victorian in Cool Neighborhood" and "Victorian in Cool Neighborhood" which both have a single bed for one person only.
There are two other rooms in this house that are also listed here, so please be aware that there may be 1-3 guests in addition to yourself while you are here.
Sorry, no pets can stay or visit. We have an iron and a blow dryer and plenty of towels, so no need to bring yours!
California is experiencing a SERIOUS WATER SHORTAGE, and we now have a mandatory 25% reduction in use. Our rates have also increased and we will be charged 5x our usual rate for using more than our allotment. (This could be over $500.) We ask that you help us conserve by being mindful of your water use. We ask you to please limit your showers to about 5 minutes, and when washing dishes and brushing teeth, please turn off the water. Please note: we do not set a timer or act like police if you go over 5 minutes. This is simply a guideline. The city and the state make it very difficult for us and we just need you to be aware of the consequences to us. Since we have multiple people staying here, the impact can be disastrous. We are also highly environmentally conscious, and would appreciate you turning off all lights when not in use.
We are on the second floor of this building, so there are tenants living below us, and their bedroom is directly below this room. We do not wear shoes in the house out of respect to them and will kindly ask that you keep your voices and personal activities low in this particular room. The walls and floors are very thin. Thanks for understanding. They will greatly appreciate this.
Please do not eat or drink in bed.
Marla was a welcoming, gracious host. She answered our questions about the area, and helped us find parking nearby for our car. The bedroom is as portrayed in the picture and description. The neighborhood on 24th around the corner is full of inviting restaurants, coffee shops, and other places to browse and eat.
I communicated with Marla a lot before arriving, because I was driving down and wasn't exactly sure of the arrival time. She was flexible right from the off. She was helpful and friendly on arrival, ready with any suggestions and recommendations if I needed them.
The room was great, and you can always be sure of a decent nights sleep in Noe Valley.
Comfortable surroundings, welcoming hosts (both human and canine!), great advice on things to see and do and fabulous location!
Marla is so kind, thoughtful and helpful in getting you to enjoy as much as possible in San Francisco. We felt welcomed and comfortable the moment we arrived. Marla recommend places and sites that we're really awesome and all near her amazing neighborhood!
Super helpful and friendly host, comfy Victorian home, convenient location.
Flew up to SF for a short, overnight trip. Marla was super responsive and helpful. She provided a ton of great recommendations on restaurants and coffee shops.
Home is clean, welcoming, and in a convenient location (walking distance from 24th and mission Bart station and in front of Muni stop). Lots of restaurants and coffee shops close by.
Marla was out of town for business so her son met me at the home to get me settled in. Her son was friendly and fun to chat with.
They have a very friendly and mellow dog.
Would recommend this Airbnb host and would stay here again.
Marla was a warm and delightful host. She gave us lots of great ideas of what to see in the neighborhood. We really enjoyed the murals in the Mission that she suggested we visit. Our room was immaculate, beautifully decorated and comfortable. And Bailey is just about the sweetest dog ever. She was a great greeter.
Marla was a super gracious host with a beautiful home and we so enjoyed our stay with her! Thank you, Marla for making us feel welcome and for all the helpful tips about where to visit and how to get there (the J train is very conveniently located)!
For folks staying with Marla, it's helpful to know that in addition to this room (which is her bedroom), Marla rents two other rooms in her house so you may be sharing the house (and bathroom) with other airbnb guests. Additionally, her home is on the second floor and you will need to be very, very quiet so as not to disturb the neighbors below.
