About This Listing
The main room of the 'the pad'. I love that three branch light. The kitchen is original, but in this case that's not great - it's a bit tired.
Come to Marrickville, and go back in time. To the 1960s and 70s (though those Wassily chairs admittedly were designed in 1925 - they're originals, too, not cheap copies).
Marrickville has become very groovy of late - it's now so cool that I'm going to have to start dressing better when I walk down the street.
First it was the café scene that exploded, now it's small bars. Have a look at my other listing to find out a bit more about Marrickville.
This listing is a large, one bedroom flat in a building around the corner from where we live. It's in one of those classic 1970s buildings that Sydney has lots of. The apartment is on the third floor, and there are stairs. The building has intercom entry and the apartment is very private.
This is a dedicated Airbnb apartment - it's not one of those places where somebody lives and then scurries back to mum and dad's when they have a booking leaving their clothes and toothbrush and stuff like that hanging around.
It is 100 metres from a supermarket and bus stop, and 400 metres from the railway station. Between the flat and the railway station are cafes, a bar, bakery and a shop that runs pickling and cheese making classes (it's become that sort of suburb).
It's just as well there is cheap Vietnamese food nearby, because the kitchen in the flat is pretty old and tired.
The photos are just snaps I took with my phone. I'll be getting better ones when I get a chance. How good are those curtains! And that bedspread. All originals.
The only room not in the photos is the laundry - it's not very exciting, though it does have a washing machine in it.
Down the track, the flat will be getting a new kitchen and of course the price will be going up.
But for now, this is your chance to rent an apartment in a good part of Sydney for a budget price.
Note: There aren't many reviews for this flat because it's a new listing and I only accept long bookings, but there are dozens of reviews for our other property just around the corner, which is only of use because they indicate I'm a decent person
The flat now has Wi-Fi - that's a long and disappointing story, but it's good for you.
Be considerate of your neighbours. Say 'hi' to them, too - especially Costa who keeps the grounds so tidy and grows lettuce in the garden.
Make sure the foyer door is locked.
I'm not far away, so you'll always be able to reach me if you need anything.
The lounge again. (This photo really is a bit dark, isn't it.) The TV is the only modern thing in that room.
My partner and I stayed here for 3 months as a starting point when we moved to Sydney. The apartment has been mainly renovated and in a great spot. 2 min walk to Woolworths (which is open until midnight most nights) and great spots to eat out. Marrickville is a great area. The place has all the facilities we needed and Scott was a great host. He is happy to help out whenever needed. Thanks Scott

About the Host, Scott
That's the only photograph I could find. Looks a bit corporate, doesn't it. I'll have to find one of the family or one of me doing something whacky.
We live in the house next door to the building where the apartment is.
Over the years, we've had various people living with us at our rambling property. And now, thanks to Airbnb, we are sharing the place with the world. There are three buildings: the house, the studio/apartment building, the garage where one long term visitor is still living (11 years and counting). There are often interesting people hanging around our place and we'd be keen for you to be part of all that if it suits you.
I work in the city - office job. My wife is far more interesting. She's an artist and does some stuff in the downstairs studio as well as teaching art and design at a university. (I might have to make up some stuff about myself.)
