Sharing the treetops with monkeys, birds and iguanas, this light, airy, 2nd floor apartment is just 50 meters from the beach, right in the heart of Sámara. Great nature views and the sounds of the ocean throughout. Fully equipped kitchen, cable, WiFi
Poised on a quiet road that ends at the beach and is shared by the local language school and other lodging units, this unique and spacious apartment (75m2) with its vaulted ceiling is shaded by mango, papaya, plantain, and cashew tres. Our fully furnished apartment has two bedrooms, one bath, and an open-plan living room and kitchen with a marble-tiled breakfast bar, cable TV and WiFi included.
The spacious master bedroom has a double bed while the second has two single beds sleeping a total of four comfortably, perfect for a family, two couples or traveling friends. Both rooms have two bedside tables, lamps, closets and ceiling fans. Our unique furniture is handmade by local woodworkers using recycled tropical woods.
The kitchen has a convection oven/toaster, Italian stovetop, blender, hot water heater, and seating for 5 at the breakfast bar.
In the interest of full disclosure, as with any rental in the heart of Sámara, the bar-restaurants can sometimes be noisy at night (mostly on Saturdays), as can the early morning roosters, dogs and howler monkeys. To that end we have two loud floor fans that work great for drowning out outside noise.
For the use of our guests, we have a longboard, two boogie boards and snorkelling equipment. Crib and other children´s equipment is also available on prior request (we have two kids, aged 3 and 10).
Finally, guests are welcome enjoy the beachfront facilities of the language school (diagonal to the apartment) that we co-own; are offered a 25% discount on our Spanish, yoga, Latin dance, zumba and cooking classes, and may use our travel planning staff and resources for advice on trips around the country.
We are more than happy to help guests answer any questions and give suggestions on things to do in the área. As guests use an entrance separate from ours, they only have to see us if they want to!
I love that we are so close to the beach, you don't even need to put your flipflops on, and that there is so much nature and wildlife around us. Also, being right near the language school is a plus, as guests can use the facilities and take part in activities like yoga and dance, and feel like they are part of a community if they want to.
There are public buses in Sámara, but most people walk or bike everywhere. The shops are a block down the beach, the bank is a block and a half away, and restaurants are all over the place.
We are a family with two kids and we love to host other families, travelers, anyone wanting something other than the hotel experience! Kids are welcome to use our swingset and trampoline anytime, and we can also help you with childcare or bilingual kínder and school options, for those staying for a longer time.
If you want to stay less tan 5 nights and there is a space in the calendar, just write to us.. we will try and be flexible.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Laura's almost-beachfront apartment. We were warmly greeted by Laura and her family the evening we arrived and they led us up a spiral staircase to the apartment, which was indeed light and airy, with beautiful colors throughout ... very thoughtfully designed and equipped. We particularly enjoyed making meals and watching the many iguanas that live in the trees across the road...some quite enormous.
One aspect of this apartment to be aware of is it location in the heart of this lively beach community. You are near several open-air beachside discos and a couple of the weekend evenings the music was loud and lasted well into the night. Mornings, on the other hand, are splendidly calm. It is a delightful place in which to wake up and start a day.
We had such a wonderful holiday!! I could not thank Laura enough for all her help. Such a great place to stay, beautiful apartment and perfect location, only a short walk to the beach, restaurants and grocery store! What a nice little town Samara is, we felt very safe and at home there. We would love to go back and would definitely stay at Laura's Place again but next time for longer and to learn Spanish at the school just down the road. :)
Almost Beachfront was a great place to stay for our family. The proximity to the beach was a huge plus. We could quickly go the beach with the kids for a swim without having to bring snacks, drinks, and the myriad of other things that children seem to suddenly need the moment you leave the house. If they needed anything you could be back to the house within minutes. Laura and her family were welcoming and helpful with any requests and the surfboard and boogie boards loaners were enjoyed by all. During our stay they installed an outdoor shower which was a welcome addition to the suite when returning from the beach.
The only reason we would not give a 5 star rating is the fact that the bar scene nearby can be loud Thursday thru Saturdays. This is not any fault of of Laura's of course. That being said we still managed to sleep through most anything the bars could drift through the nite to us as the daytime beach visits managed to tire us out thoroughly.
I honestly didn't want to leave! Laura was incredible helpful while I was planning my trip and went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable and home-y. The place is simple, spacious, and super conveniently located. It's right on the beach, close to all the activity of downtown Samara. It's a great spot to get acclimated to Costa Rica while still having privacy.
Highly recommend staying here if you ever visit Samara! Thanks again Laura for all the help. Wish I could have stayed longer.
We loved staying at Casa en el Aire. It's a beautiful apartment just steps from the beach, near plenty of good restaurants. We were there around New Year's, so the music from the nearby beach bar could be annoying late at night, but the fans did a decent job drowning it out, and it didn't prevent us from getting a good night's sleep every night we were there. Those more sensitive to noise should bring ear plugs, but don't let it stop you from renting this wonderful apartment. Laura was incredibly helpful and quick to respond, and even arranged a taxi for us. She also provided a great list of what to do in and around Sámara. A fantastic apartment in a beautiful location. Just be sure to bring your own beach towels, that's the only thing that wasn't provided that we found we needed. Overall, I can't recommend this apartment highly enough.
Laura and her staff were really friendly and kind. Her apartment was great - and REALLY near the beach. Spacious and well equipped. You could hear the waves at night from the apartment. The beach was gorgeous! I had to laugh when I saw the outdoor circular staircase leading to the apartment when I first got there. It was a neat architectural feature, but I had a heavy piece of luggage. At least it wasn't raining. And the friendly staff carried it up for me anyway.
I hate to say that nearby bars played music really loudly. One night, I was up until 2 am. But it's because of tourists (like me) that these bars are cropping up near the beach and blasting music. Laura explained that they aren't as bad during the low season. And when I used the floor fan as she suggested, it really helped drown out the noise. Laura also helped direct me to vegetarian and veggie-friendly restaurants. The tiny town has quite a few for its size. Overall, it was a really cute town with a very laid-back beach vibe.
Thanks Allison and good idea re. the reading light, will do that!
It was our pleasure to have you, and come back anytime... after Xmas and New Years the music should be much quieter, you´re right though, at this time of year you really need the fan to sleep with :)
Glad you liked the book, I´m reading that same one now.
We loved Samara and our huuuuge apartment. We where just two people in our big loft :) - which is clean, safe and comfy! The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are comfy, the beach is reached in one minute by foot (perfect!!!) and the city and supermarket is also really close: perfect location! Samara beach was great for us surf beginners! We had a lot of fun and would definitely come back.
Laura was not in Samara at the days we where there, but she stayed in touch helpfully with texts :)
Laura: looking forward to meeting you next time and many thanks!
Renting this apartment turned out to be one of the best decisions we made during our travels to Costa Rica.
The space was exactly what we were looking for - comfortable, homey, centrally located, and problem free.
Laura and Ty were easy to get a hold of when needed but hands off otherwise. Communication prior to arriving was timely and painless.
If you're looking to be in Samara, this is a hard spot to beat.
My partner and I were very happy to have stayed at Laura's apartment. Samara is a wonderful town, with a great beach, good waves, warm ocean water, beautiful views, good shops and local craftspeople, and a relaxed environment.
The apartment is beautiful. It has a lot of light, good breezes and ceiling fans, great furniture and beds, and a comfortable kitchen. There is much attention to detail - it is very attractive. As an added treat, Laura provided surfboards and boogie boards for our use.
As the first tenants, several things occurred that were displeasing, but these problems should now all be fixed and future tenants should be very happy here. Additionally, there is occasional music from local bars that may keep tenants awake at night.
This was a delightful town, wonderful apartment, and friendly hosts. We highly recommend.
