Farmer's Charm, City Life is located in one of Philadelphia's most exciting neighborhoods: Fishtown. Fishtown is known for its beer gardens and breweries, music venues, restaurants and gastro pubs, antique shops, as well as art studios and galleries. Some consider Fishtown as the hipster capital of Pennsylvania!
The subway (colloquially called the "El") is a 15-20 minute walk from my house. There are two stops nearby: Girard and Berks. Berks is a couple minutes closer, but I recommend Girard as it is a nicer subway stop. A 1-way subway token (yes, we use tokens, not a metro pass) will cost you $2.25, in exact change. This subway line will take you directly into the center of Philadelphia, where you can access additional lines of transportation (to old city, stadium area, West Philly, etc). Once you're in center city, larger quantities of tokens can be purchased at machines, using cash. You can also take the 43 bus, located at Aramingo Ave & Moyer Street, a 4 minute walk from my house, to other areas of the city. The bus also costs $2.25, however, if you need to transfer to another bus or transit line, you'll pay a $1 transfer fee. I suggest using (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps to determine if the subway or bus makes more sense for your journey!
Driving to my house is easy and parking is plentiful! However, just make sure not to park directly in front of my house as that requires a resident permit. There is parking on nearby streets with no meters or time limits. Getting around the city is pretty easy and parking in various areas of Philadelphia generally isn't too bad. We use a combination of kiosks and old-school quarter-fed meters for most centrally-located neighborhoods. Either way, you get 15 minutes per quarter. Be sure to be vigilant when reading the parking signs as the Philadelphia Parking Authority is ruthless! Fun tip: parking on Wednesdays after 5 PM is free in certain areas of the city. Visit the PPA website for more details.
You can also utilize Uber, Lyft or traditional taxi services from my house. Taxis don't typically drive around my street, so if you plan to use a taxi service, call (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) or (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) minutes from the time you would like a ride. If you're looking for faster service, you can use Uber or Lyft, which is usually a 5 minute wait, depending on what time you're requesting!
Philly recently invested in a very robust bike rental program called Indego! I highly suggest downloading the App called "Bike 2 Go" to look up where the nearest bikes are available. Hint: within a 15-20 minute walk from my house. This App will also explain how the program works and where the bike rental and drop off areas are throughout the city. You can use a credit card to rent a bike, which will cost you $4 for 30 minutes. Philly has good bike paths and beautiful biking trails so this wouldn't be a bad idea to check out!
One of the best ways to get around Fishtown is by walking!! You will be within walking distance to many desired destinations in my neighborhood. If you're planning to hit up the traditional attractions, walking may not be your best option. Center city (Independence Hall) is about an hour walk, old city (Liberty Bell) is 45 minutes and South Philly (stadiums) is pretty far!

This one time super host now has a super hostess helping out! My girlfriend Darlene and I moved in together a few months ago and live just 10 minutes away from Farmers Charm City Life. We share many interests: gardening, cooking, a fun night on the town, good TV series', our two cats (Chip & Ollie), and exploring the wonderful city of Philadelphia. We were brought together through an Air BNB connection so it only makes sense that we are now co-hosting this listing! We are well versed in everything Philly so do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions! We look forward to making your stay in Philly convenient, comfortable and fun!
