Interaction with Guests
My schedule varies, but I will catch up with you at some point during your visit if not upon arrival. I am always available by phone, text, email.
The neighborhood is residential yet quite vibrant and has many services within walking distance. Two blocks in one direction is the wonderful café Sofra with homemade confections and middle eastern dishes. One block in the other direction is Shangri-La: an excellent Chinese restaurant. Two blocks away is Greg's, a neighborhood Italian eatery with full bar and early bird specials. Also within a block are a well stocked liquor store/wine shop, a middle eastern bakery, and a dry cleaners. If you want to walk five blocks to Coolidge Square there is a tasty vegetarian restaurant (Red Lentil), a great diner (Town Diner), a tiny but very good middle eastern eatery (Jasmine), and a super coffee/lunch spot (Uncommon Grounds). A supermarket (Shaws) is four blocks away. A jogging trail around Fresh Pond is six blocks away as is a very nice nine hole golf course. All of this only a ten minute bus ride from Harvard Square!
The 73 Bus from Harvard Square station stops right past the house (Sullivan Rd. stop). It leaves from underground in the Harvard Square subway station and is about a ten minute ride.
Other Things to Note
In the nice weather we have a wonderful rear patio surrounded by flower beds. It has chaise lounges, a large table and umbrellas and fountains and a barbecue and is a real urban oasis. It also has WIFI, and we encourage our guest to enjoy the space for work and leisure. We have a potluck dinner every WedTuesday evening and guests are welcome to join in! We also have a meditation room guests are welcome to use.
If you use the kitchen please clean up after use and put your dishes in the dishwasher. No smoking or pets allowed.
I had a wonderful time staying in Alan's place. The room is quiet, clean, and has everything you need-- including its own TV, AC, desk, small sitting area, and a very comfortable bed. The location is great as well, close to bus lines that run straight into Harvard Square. The best part of the property was the garden in the back, which had great patio furniture and a lush, flowering garden.
But the best part of the overall stay for me was Alan and the small community of friends who would stop by for weekly dinners or to say hello. They made me feel welcome, and really gave me a comfortable home-away-from-home during my six week stay. Thank you Alan and everyone else for such a lovely stay! I would happily return to this home when I am next in the Boston area.
During our stay Alan has always been very quick to respond to any issues or concerns. Because of scheduling issues we had to change our booking twice, but Alan was very accommodating and easy to work with. The room itself was nice, it had all the basic amenities we needed and ample storage. We also enjoyed the lovely communal areas. The house was about 15-20 minutes bus ride away from Harvard Square, which was a very lively area. Overall it was a great accommodation option in Cambridge, and we enjoyed our stay.
Everything was so comfortable. I immediately felt right at home. Alan was a welcoming host and was always reachable if I had a question. Parking across the street was readily available and free. Only 10-15 mins from MIT. An easy drive or uber to visit. Will definitely stay again!
Alan was a very responsive and hospitable host. I rented out his room for a longer period, from the end of January to the end of April. I didn't really spend too much time (less than 50%) at his house, however, since I was often having to fly out to conferences/interviews/family. The room was spacious and pretty much laid out like it is in the pictures. If I ever had a question or a problem Alan was very quick, accessible, and prompt with answers and results. The place is located off of two bus lines that go directly to the red line at Harvard square (where I was working) so that was convenient. Buses do get crowded very quickly at certain rush hour times so watch out for that! There were only a few "cons" and this might only be relevant info for those who are light sleepers like me. Although the house is on a relatively quiet street, it's still an older house, which means you will hear any sort of talking in the hallway, from the guest room across the hall, or from the common spaces. There also seems to be a family with children upstairs and since the room I rented was under the stairs and by the front porch I was frequently woken up during night or late morning by heavy footsteps running up above or running up and down the stairs and slamming doors. I ended up just using a white noise sound on my phone and getting earplugs, but again this is because, like many places in Cambridge, houses and structures are just older and less insulated. Finally, just to be clear, there is another guest room in the house that you will share the bathroom and other spaces with. The couple that lived across were cordial, but frequently left all their personal stuff all over the bathroom and talked loud in hall/slammed doors etc. Again you experience might not be like mine since it all depends on who rents out the other unit. If I had read the finer print that I was going to be sharing the common spaces with several people other than Alan I most likely would have reconsidered. Still, it was a good room for what I needed: a safe, spacious, warm, and close enough space to where I had to work. It was a room that I could sleep and rest in about half a week during my semester of hectic and tiring air travel. Alan, moreover, was a friendly, reliable, and hospitable host.
I stayed here for a month. The room was very comfortable, so was the rest of the house. Alan is a wonderful host and a lot of fun to talk to. He attends to the needs of tenants quickly and efficiently. The location is also very convenient. However, beware of being lured into the nearby SOFRA cafe everyday! Everything there is sinfully delicious and I'm missing it already!
A great stay. Just what we needed. The arrival was very convenient. Alan is a super friendly and has a lot of good advice on things in the area.
Alan has been very kind and professional. Even if we haven't seen each other much during my staying as I was around sightseeing and he was out of town for a few days with his RV he was prompt to answer any question via sms and was able to accommodate my needs.

About the Host, Alan
I am a long time Cambridge resident having come here originally to attend Harvard Divinity School. I'm a residential real estate agent practicing in Cambridge and Boston. I co-own a three-family residence in Fresh Pond Cambridge and rent out two rooms and a studio through airbnb at my residence where I also reside. I'm interested in health and help run a small meditation and holistic health group out of the first floor apartment in addition to the room rentals. My interests also include gardening, interior design, travel golf, and of course hosting on airbnb! I like providing beautiful and comfortable spaces for my guests to enjoy. I own an RV and love to go camping to the mountains and seashore with my friends and especially my grandchildren. My favorite travel destinations are New Orleans, Savannah, Georgia, and Palm Springs California. I like all kinds of foods and especially my veggies, and I'll give you my cole slaw recipe; grate a cabbage and some carrots, add a grated fresh anise and an apple to the mix, then add some organic cider vinegar and olive oil mayo to taste (this mix tastes so good, you can try it without mayo). My musical tastes are also wide and include jazz, pop, and a cappela.
