Dating back from the XVIII century, Sestelo manor-house is located in the heart of Minho, the birthplace of Portugal and the land of Vinho Verde (green wine). Located in the county of Cabeceiras de Basto, less than one hour driving from Porto, Sestelo was once the house of a Portuguese nobleman recently restored to include all the amenities of modern life.
The house old stables were converted into 3 duplex apartments, each with a double or twin bed room, 2 bathrooms with shower, a kitchenette and a living room with a double sofa bed, air-conditioning and cable TV.
All apartments have use of the swimming pool and of the panoramic terrace, overlooking the vineyard, were you can relax with a glass of “Vinho Verde” after exploring the region. The property is surrounded by vineyards, a watermill, the manor-house chapel, olive trees, fresh water fountains and the “Levada”, and old irrigation channel that you can follow until it enters the mountain.
Come and experience one of the most enchanting regions of Portugal were time has stopped and tradition still dwells in the habits of people.
The whole place is just beautiful. It has been lovingly fitted out with everything that one needs for a relaxing stay and is spotlessly clean. It is quiet and comfortable. The large pool is in a great setting with views over the landscape. The pictures really don’t do it justice. Maria and her parents are wonderful, caring hosts. Example: On Sunday evening, we mentioned to Maria that the mattress was caving into the centre of the bed and we would like an additional pillow. Instantly we had two additional pillows. On Monday we travelled the area and to our great surprise when we got into bed that evening we discovered that we had a new mattress! The wonderful welcoming basket of local and home-made goodies was much appreciated. Thanks Maria also to your parents. We plan to be back!
Wonderful stay. Really enjoyed the whole area. Especially the lovely pool and Maria's hospitality
Staying at Arco de Bauhlme in this magnificent country house was definitely a highlight of our one month stay in Portugal. We were travelling with our 4 months daughter and I only have good things to say about our stay, Maria and her family.
The house is in the middle of a wineyard and you can freely walk around. There is a nice pool with a great view. The basket of local goods was a really nice personnalized touch. The apartment is big, quiet and has all the necessities you need to cook light meals. The house is also a perfect base for daytrips to explore the area (Braga, Guimares, Villa Real, Barcelo and some national parks are all at a 30-40 minutes drive from the house). I would recommend this place without any hesitations.
Very pleasant stay on our short tour in Northern Portugal to Parqeu Nacional de Pendeda de Geres.
We had such a lovely time staying at the Manor and it was by far the highlight of our Portugal trip. It is hard to describe the warm welcome we felt. It started from the basket in our room filled with freshly made jam from Maria’s kind mother, wine from the vineyard, and locally baked bread specific to the region. We felt like we stepped back in time and experienced a very special place as it was 100 years ago. It was as if time stood still. Highlights are lounging by the pool and strolling around the vineyard, and trips to the surrounding villages. It is a great place to relax. We also had the opportunity to interact with the lovely farmers taking care of the surrounding vineyards. At first we were worried about bothering them but they were kind enough to let us watch them and help make wine from the vineyard’s grapes. Truly beautiful people, truly a beautiful place. We hope to come back soon.
My wife and I are seasoned travelers. Staying at Casa Sestollo may have been the best experience we have ever had in over 40 years of serious traveling. Not only was the casa beyond our expectations but our hosts treated us as family seeing to our every need. Our car was broken into in Porto and they took care of everything, including lending us a car until ours was repaired. I feel as if I have made life long friends in this beautiful area of Portugal.
Very quiet, friendy and hospitable stay. Clean and the pictures don't do the location justice. It is a very pretty spot although it is a tight road getting in there. They even left a welcome basket with goodies which were delicious and appreciated.
Maria was great!
