Common to New Orleans, this house is a "shotgun" double. Though it has been converted to a single family home, one side still retains the original shotgun style, one room lined up one behind the other, typically a living room first, then bedrooms, followed by a kitchen in back. This 1880's home offers an updated floor plan comfortably sleeping up to eight people. Enter the house into the living room with HDTV... to the side of the living room is a bedroom with queen size bed, tv and french door to the front porch. Following the shotgun floor plan from the living room, you will be in the second bedroom with two twin beds. A wonderful fully stocked kitchen is at the back of the house. The side rear of the house offers a charming third bedroom with queen size bed, a large family room with 50" HDTV, a kitchenette with microwave oven and various appliances and two couches for additional sleeping. Twin and queen air mattresses are also available as well as a washer and dryer. There are two baths, one with original claw foot tub and the second with spacious shower. Enjoy the private back yard which has a deck, brick patio and grill or relax on the front porch.
The host of the annual Po-Boy festival in November, Oak Street has a collection of coffee shops, new and vintage clothing boutiques, wonderful places to dine, art galleries, antiques, stores and live music at the Maple Leaf Bar. As well as Oak Street, this great New Orleans neighborhood offers numerous restaurants, bars and shops all within a short walk. Also nearby are the Universities and Audubon Park. A block from the house is the street car stop that will take you by the beautiful homes on St. Charles Avenue into the Garden District, downtown, the Art District and the French Quarter.

Really cute house with all the comforts of home! We really appreciated the goodies that Ellyn left us, like bottled water, coffee, and even snacks. The location was perfect for us, one block off of Oak St & a couple of blocks to the streetcar. The only downside was that one room with beds really had no privacy (not a true bedroom). All in all, we still really enjoyed our stay!
This is an absolutely amazing home, and it's possibly even better than the online photos show (the pics are great, but the house is simply spectacular). Ellyn was responsive and communicative from the first exchange, and her husband Gil was very helpful with meeting us and introducing us to the home and neighborhood.
Four of us stayed for four days, and the home was the perfect size for our group. More people could also comfortably stay. The house was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and beyond our expectations in terms of charm. Better yet, Ellyn has thought of EVERYTHING a guest could ever want -- (1) complimentary coffee, creamer, and banana bread in the fridge upon arrival, which lasted through our stay, as well as snacks & beer; (2) plenty of toiletries if you forgot something, including toothbrush & toothpaste, shower gel, shampoos, ponchos/umbrellas, etc.; (3) iron/ironing boards, and more... I could go on and on with the level of detail and care in making this home perfect for a short or longer stay.
The location is also great -- it's about a 20 min drive to the French Quarter or to the airport, and parking is plentiful and free on the street in front of the house. The neighborhood is very cute with lots of dining options, and you're just 2 blocks from the street car stop if you want to head to the Garden District. It's also very quiet at night and the back deck is private and delightful -- a perfect retreat from the gritty, crowded Frenc Quarter!
I could not recommend this accomodation more highly. Stay here!!!
Ellyn's place was perfect: The house is clean, comfortable, and beautiful. Ellyn has thought of everything: She met us at the door, the house is provided with snacks, drinks, coffee, and enough keys.
There is a gorgeous back yard and deck, as well as a front porch.
The location is also perfect: a quiet neighborhood, yet a block away from restaurants, coffee houses, bars, and the streetcar.
Overall, a perfect stay in New Orleans.
Ellyn's place in New Orleans was absolutely perfect. The location is great and the house itself is just beautiful. There was absolutely nothing we were lacking. Having both a front porch and a back yard was such a luxury after a very cold northern winter.
Ellyn was most welcoming and got back to us immediately on the few questions we had.
We'll be back!
What a fabulous experience!!!! We rented Ellyn's house for my niece's wedding. The location was fabulous, and the home was adorable. I have rented many homes, but Ellyn goes out of her way to make the experience so enjoyable. Freshly ground coffee, a loaf of banana bread, milk, juice, and bottled waters were in the refrigerator upon our arrival. The house is eclectic and artsy!!! The patio is the perfect location for a cocktail in the evening. Why stay in a hotel when you can stay here????!!!!
Can't say anything that hasn't been said many times previously. Ellyn's home is super clean, comfortable, and has everything you need. Including some nice treats that were a pleasant surprise. The neighborhood has everything one needs to make for a wonderful NOLA experience.
Ellyn was wonderful, and very accommodating. Ellyn's home is gorgeous, and located in a very peaceful neighborhood.
