Interaction with Guests
Typically, after booking, Linda or I will coordinate things and help you plan your trip if needed. Most local attractions are not marked at all, so if you were just driving through, you would miss a lot of fun stuff! Whatever you're looking for, We can help you find it.
Upon arrival, you will be greeted by me or by the property Care Keeper ~ Linda ~ who will give you a tour of the property and answer any last-minute questions you might have. After that, you will be on your own, but we are always just a phone call away.
We have a fantastic location and because of popularity of it now have a minimum two night stay for spring and summer months. Last minute requests may sometimes be accommodated if there when availability. (some times not) Write us.
You'll love it here because it's quiet, serene...in nature. Every day you can see deer (even babies!), quail, rabbits and many, many wild birds. There are currently flocks of turkeys, vultures, hawks, ravens, doves, blue jays, 3 crazy clans of hummingbirds, and many others in the yard. Sit outside with your eyes closed and listen to them!
The night sky from the back yard is just like a planetarium, complete with shooting stars. Perfect for long-exposure night photography. It's a sight you will never forget.
The neighbors are all retired and keep to themselves.
The house is conveniently located close to several area attractions! Here are just a few, all less than 10 minutes away:
Diving - This area is famous for its abundant abalone and sea urchin. There is even a space on the deck where you can wash and dry your wetsuit! .. Make sure it's the right season and make sure you get your license as needed !
Whale watching - California gray whales and orcas are migrating right now! mackerricher state park, just across the highway, is one of many great whale-watching spots.
Tall sand dunes are only 5 minutes away. You can spend all day jumping on them.
Glass beach - Generations ago, this beach used to be a landfill. Today, the only thing that remains is glass of many colors, tumbled by the surf for years. Grab a handful of them, and admire how they sparkle!
Living Light Culinary Institute - a nearby cooking school, renowned for its teachings on raw foods. They have a raw cafe tourists and locals enjoy.
Horseback riding - Ricochet Ranch is less than fifty feet up the road up the road offers daily horseback tours of the beach and beyond. They even have a towering Clydesdale you can ride. You may see seals, wild geese, or even a breaching whale!
Are you a dirt bike rider? There are many trails nearby, including hidden dirtbike-friendly beaches.
When visiting our community, having a vehicle is essential. We welcome motorcycles and bikes, and if you happen to have an exotic car, you may be able to park it in the garage - please inquire ahead of time. We can accommodate RVs, although I wouldn't recommend anything longer than 26 feet.
The only public transportation is called the "CC Rider" and it travels daily between downtown Fort Bragg, downtown Santa Rosa, and Santa Rosa airport. It's a slow journey, even as public transit goes.

We recently found a local secret natural spring! We would be happy to make you a little map there if you promise to keep it a secret!
Another secret local gem we have found is a tidal blowhole that's so big you can rappel down into it. Not to be missed.

We had a really wonderful time in Fort Bragg! Linda greeted us right away and was such a great host. She gave us tips on where to explore, and made us feel at home. The place looks just like in the pictures, and the backyard with chickens is gorgeous. I would 100% recommend staying here!
Mike + Linda made staying in this adorable cozy cottage next to heaven. It's a tiny, tidy, warm little cottage in the woods on beautiful property, and Linda was responsive and kind in her communications. We stayed in Fort Bragg so we could go to Glass Beach, and Linda gave us a local's perspective on things and some insider tips on making our stay the best it could be. They even had fresh eggs in the morning. Such a wonderful little place, we'd love to stay again!
This place is GREAT!! Very quiet and relaxing, but still close enough to town and the ocean. Linda met us and gave us a quick tour of the home and then fed the chickens with our 3 year old son (quite the hit)! The home had all the necessities and was clean! Linda was very accommodating and couldn't have been nicer- Great to meet you Linda!
Nice neighborhood, large space, huge private yard, very welcoming and helpful owners. You really can't beat the price compared to a hotel, especially for 3 adults and a toddler. You should know, though, that there is a strong smell of mildew in the bedrooms. Didn't bother one of my daughters, but I'm really sensitive to it. Tolerable in the front bedroom with the window open.
We had an incredible stay at this house! Linda was very welcoming and everything about it was perfect. We will definitely be coming back here!!
We truly loved our experience at Mike & Linda's house!!! We were a short bike ride away from MacKerricher state park, which worked great with our kids constant desire to play in the tide pools! The outdoor atmosphere at the house was natural and lovely... a real refresher from city life & easy to sit back with a glass of wine and relax in the sun! No need to be at the beach constantly when you have such a lovely space right outside your door!
Linda was constantly within reach via text, and Mike was easy to talk to the one day we got to meet him. He even drew my husband a map to a local mushrooming area, and recommends local restaurants. They both made us feel super comfortable and welcome. Great with the kids- even teaching them how to feed the chickens!!! (A daily activity they got to enjoy!)
Coffee for the mornings, fresh eggs whenever requested, and a garden out back... All made our passion for cooking go so smoothly! The kitchen was well stocked with all the tools one might need, even a kitchen aid to make cookies on a rainy day =) (Also a BBQ on hand for sunny afternoons was a plus!)
The washer and dryer were an added bonus for cleaning allllllll my kids laundry before the return trip... No hauling bags of sandy clothes back home!
The WiFi was smooth, which was a unique for the area. Cell signal spotty, but that's typical for the area.
We hope to return again on our next trip, they were lovely hosts with an exceptionally sweet area to relax in! =)
Thanks for making our time so easy!
We were warmly welcomed by Mike and Linda who provided fresh eggs and some homemade hot and spicy jam! The eggs made for a very delicious breakfast before we headed out the next morning. This is a very quiet and peaceful setting, great for relaxing after a long drive.
