Truckee is a great area in both summer and winter. There is an incredible amount to do outdoors, or just chill indoors. Lots of friendly mountain people and a great assortment of activities and dining options.
There is regional transit at the bottom of the hill and the ski areas run a shuttle bus as well.
Other Things to Note
We try to recycle and there are blue bags in the laundry room for recyclables. If you use something up, please let us know, so we can replenish for the next guest, or if its something simple replace it and feel the karma warm your soul. These are the mountains and there are bears (infrequently) lots of deer and bunnies, and neighborhood dogs. In the Summer we generally experience great weather, and sometimes there is "monsoon" weather and it rains in the afternoon. In the Winter, Truckee is known for some pretty heavy storms, please be prepared for associated traffic due to heavy snow. We recommend a 4WD vehicle in the winter and our uphill driveway can be a challenge in a big storm.
This is Mountain Country - you need to roll with what nature delivers, be that drought, wind, rain, power outages, blizzards, etc. There are nice hotels in Truckee, and at Squaw and Northstar if that is more your speed. Otherwise, we welcome you!

This was the first time I used Airbnb and I was skeptical about the booking, however. The cabin looked same as it was in the pictures while booking. All my family member were happy after reaching the cabin. We stayed 2 nights and the location is perfect for a retreat away from the city life. Cabin is situated at a right distance for someone who like to walk for about an hour. Cabin has all the amenities mention in a very good working condition. Host helped us with all the information needed through emails and check-in check-out was really smooth.
We definitely like to stay again at this cabin if we revisit Lake Tahoe.
Took my family here for a summer weekend, and we all loved it. The cabin was exactly as described - super cozy, spacious, well-kept, and stocked with the right appliances we needed to cook. It's located in the heart of Truckee, just 30 minutes (maybe) to Lake Tahoe. The host was also super responsive to all correspondence - highly recommended, I'd definitely stay here again!
Clayton's cabin was a great summer weekend retreat for my friends and I. The location in Tahoe Donner is great for quickly getting to Truckee, Donner Lake, Tahoe City, Northstar Resort, Squaw Valley or Kings Beach (among other North Lake destinations) and has easy access down to your morning coffee at Wild Cherries or gear needs at The Backcountry. The cabin was well-equipped, extremely clean and plenty roomy and Clayton himself was very easy to deal with; I'd certainly stay here again.
Clayton was easy to work with and very on top of communication with details and information for an enjoyable stay. Home was as described. Beds were comfortable, roomy kitchen. We did not use the pool or hot tub, we did check them out and they looked very nice. Had a great time and would stay here again.
Kids had a great time playing in the woods behind the house. Swimming pool in the nearby recreation center was awesome, and access to the private beach at Donner Lake to watch the fireworks for July 4th was great. The house was indeed cozy. Our only complaint was that one room was not thoroughly cleaned upon arrival to the home. But Clayton was quick to provide an explanation and we moved on. He was also gracious enough to let us check in early and checkout late to better work with the kid's schedule. Overall we had a great time.
Our host Clayton was great and very tentative. He message me on multiple occasions with information pertaining to the cabin. This is not a cabin it is a home and you feel that right when you walk in. Our stay was everything and more. We would definitely stay here again... bonus points for all and the board and card games.
Very cozy and warm atmosphere. 20 mins from our destination (Squaw Valley). Love the fireplace.
