About This Listing
My house is a stone built detached cottage which was originally the stable to the main house next door which is now separately owned. You will see many of these villas around this area as in the 19th century Torquay was an affluent winter resort for the wealthy.
Double room in a lovely Bed & Breakfast in a fully refurbished (summer 2011) detached stone cottage in a quiet area in Torquay. All the rooms have been newly decorated to compliment the sea-side location. There's a shared bathroom (bath/shower) and you are welcome to relax in all the communal spaces. These include the combined kitchen and breakfast room, conservatory and the sunny walled-in lawned garden (south-west facing) with decked area suitable for eating outside or sunbathing.
Luxurious White Company bed linen and towels are provided, and a substaial breakfast too. Although I'm personally a vegetarian, I provide hearty cooked breakfasts to suit your dietary requirements (including West Country sausages etc, plus gluten free or diabetic requirements). There's private off road car parking, wi-fi, satellite tv and brand new heating, carpets, electrics, bathroom and kitchen.
I have been hosting International students for over 30 years and am very knowledgable about the area. Please be aware that I have a friendly border collie and standard size Yorkshire terrier, both females, in case you have any allergies. They do not go into the guest bedrooms and sleep downstairs.
The cottage is in walking distance to Torquay town and its many beaches. There's also a bus stop at the bottom of the road. There are local shops nearby. It's in walking distance to the local train and coach stations. There is a direct train to London from Torre station which is at the bottom of the road that takes around 3 hours. It's a 5 minutes drive to out-of-town shopping centre with M&S, Sainsbury's etc.
Exeter, our county capital city is around half an hour away. It has a recently renovated city centre with lots of good shops as well as a beautiful cathedral and choice of cafés.

They are welcome to bring food into the kitchen/ breakfast room to put in the fridge and use the oven/ microwave. It's actually lovely to see a guest that feels comfortable enough to root around for a plate or glass...
Interaction with Guests
My partner and I always enjoy breakfast with our guests as it's an excuse for us to take it easy in the morning, rather that grabbing a coffee and dashing out the door! It's so interesting hearing about other countries and ways of life. If our guests choose to eat in of an evening, they are most welcome to share the table with us ( and if we have a bottle if wine open, that too)
Previous guests have even taking one of our dogs for a lovely walk down to the seafront! Hence they love it when we have Airbnb guests to stay!
No matter how early your departure has to be, we will ensure you have breakfast before you leave to catch that bus or flight.
The house is only 10 minutes walk downhill into Torquay town and you see the sea about a minute after leaving the house, it's about another 20 minutes to the harbourside and beaches. There are always plenty of taxis around to bring you home!!
5 minutes maximum drive the other way and you are at a smallish out of town shopping area called The Willows which has Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's, Boots, Mothercare, Next and DFS
Getting to Exeter is only half an hour by car or take the local train , from the bottom of the road, and enjoy the wonderful views along the Teign river and coastline of Teignmouth and Dawlish, one of the best views from a train I think!
There is a small train station at the bottom of the road called TORRE which goes straight to London and by changing just one stop you can visit all the smaller local towns which have a station.
There is also the coach station around the corner in the other direction which has buses to and from London , including major airports as well as other towns.
Local buses run from down the road around the bay and to local towns. Look out for numbers 64 and 12.
Other Things to Note
If you are arriving by public transport, I or my partner will always try to collect you and drop you back off when you leave.
Shoes off inside please. No smoking in house, garden or near outside doors. Please help yourself to tea/coffee/juice/biscuits anytime. You are more than welcome to bring food/drink etc in and store the refridgerator and eat in the kitchen /breakfast room or outside on the decked area where there is a 6 seater patio set with umbrella and heater, but I politely request no food in the bedroom.
Petra & Clive were wonderful host's and made us very welcome, the room was light and airy, breakfast was an abundance of scrummy options and we were treated to their wealth of local knowledge, they even wrote us a little itinerary for our day's out which made our stay truly wonderful we would definitely stay again
Hosts went out of their way to make my stay comfortable and relaxing. I could not ask for a better place to enjoy the Torbay area . It felt great being with such wonderful people who loved giving assistance if needed.
We felt really welkom, and loved jour home, with nice light colours. Its was verry nice to talk to you and Clive. Great breakfast! And thanks for everything! Greetings from Anno and Astrid from Holland.
Petra and Clive were the kindest hosts, picking us up from the station when we arrived. We actually had to change our dates last minute and Petra was amazingly accommodating. The house is just as described and the dogs are very sweet and friendly. Breakfast was a full spread every morning, huge quantities and delicious produce which was served with plenty of good advice for the day's activities and friendly chat. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and all amenities necessary were provided. Lovely shower and easily accessible bathroom. Location was perfect for us as we were looking for a good base to walk places and the nearest station is just at the bottom of the (very steep) road behind the house. No complaints, our stay was faultless with genuinely lovely hosts, thank you so much Petra and Clive (and of course gorgeous Pepper and Millie) for having us!
The reservation was canceled 8 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Have just returned from having a wonderful break in Torquay with hosts Petra & Clive. It was everything we'd hoped and more. Amazing cooked breakfasts everyday by Clive (fresh croissants in abundance!); warmth, friendliness & lots of great advice on places to visit by Petra. Thank you for your hospitality, highly recommend.

About the Host, Petra
Hello, I'm a Devon born girl.. ( I use the term loosly ) and love living by the sea. I love art, craft and design and am currently teaching an weekly adult class the art of Rag Rugging held in the now famous? fishing town of Brixham through South devon College. I'm passionate about using recycled materials in my work and every summer make an outdoor sculpture as part of a group of artists who exhibit them along the promenade in Teignmouth.
I have hosted International students for over 30 years on and off and made some long lasting friendships. I have 2 grown up sons, One married with children living in Vienna, the other living in London with his girlfriend and performing in West End musicals. I love travelling and have been many times to the South coasts of France and Spain, and in the last few years, Hong Kong and Singapore to the East and California to the West.
I have a very friendly female Border Collie called Milly who is 5 years old. She doesn't think she is a dog, she thinks she is human ( as many dogs do I'm sure ) as long as I give her her daily beach walk and swim she is quite happy to snooze the day away or sit outside the open conservatory gazing up at the seagulls. In April this year I have also taken in a Yorkshire terrier ( sturdy type, not the tiny variety) she is just a year old and already ruling the roost!! she loves the beach too having been a city girl!!
Free day out, large park and woodland walks, craft studios and cafe in manor house. Rose garden.
You can sit outside on the promenade by the sea enjoying their "Catch of the Day" with a chilled glass of wine. Sunday lunchtimes there is live music, usually acoustic.
Catch the ferry to Brixham for only £2 return! Takeaway Fish & chips at "Simply Fish" by the harbour.
Funky, Arty, New Age transition town. Lovely places to eat, lots of veggie and organic. Markets on Fridays and Saturdays.
Agatha Christies Summer home- National Trust with views over the river Dart.
Probably the best organic restaurant in the world!!! In my opinion!!! Booking essential!
Nearest city, easy rail link from bottom of the road, good shopping and restaurants and bars.
