Family friendly villa. Private walled garden with pool. Beautiful carved wood & marble throughout. Two double bedrooms upstairs, one with 4 poster, other with large double &A/C, Wendy House double bedroom in garden for kids (of all ages). Kitchen, dining and lots of living (website hidden) DVD fibre optic Wifi.
Rumah Asri is a spacious character jati (teak) villa for visitors who want to experience the real Bali. Our family are on hand next door to guide you around the island if you want to step past the tourist traps.
The villa lends itself to family living & can accommodate 4 adults & a handful of kids very comfortably. It is full of character, beautiful carved & painted teak abounds along with marble & lush cushions.
Don't worry we have mod cons, fibre optic wifi, TV/DVD, hot & cold shower, an air conditioned bedroom. But the floor boards creak & our geckos croak, you can just hear the surf breaking on the beach some nights. You smell the frangipani & incense. "Boy" our lovely Bali dog takes security seriously & barks at night when people approach the villa. The neighbours' rooster can crow at night. Hey, you actually know you're in a village on a the tropical island of Bali, all be it within a stones throw of some great western services & trendy Seminyak.
There are restaurants & beauty parlours within easy walking distance. But the back garden & pool are private & secluded, with frangipani dropping flowers on the lawn & in the pool. There's a Wendy House as a 3rd bedroom or for time-outs anytime. Pretty soon you'll be relaxing on Bali "jam karet" (rubber time).
In addition to the two upstairs bedrooms there are two marble lounging plinths each the size of a king size bed in the open plan downstairs which can be used for sleeping if preferred to the Wendy House.
In addition to the villa & pool we include a daily light maid service to make beds & sweep the floors in the afternoon. Additional services including transport, self drive cars or bikes & security can be provided if required.
There is a laundry service just down the road too.
There is secure parking behind the gate for cars & motorbikes. Taxis are readily available & very affordable.
Interaction with Guests
Family live next door who can organise any additional services required. Brother Deva Anu runs a tourism service & can sort out whatever you need.
In the Balinese tradition, the family like to make daily offerings around the garden if the guests don't mind. It is a thing of beauty to watch.
Umalas is a Balinese village now on the fringe of the tourist area. Still retaining its local character despite the advent of restaurants & expat owned villas.
About 10 minutes from the Pantai Petitenget & Batu Belig beaches, between Seminyak & Canggu. It's a great walk down the beach from the Petitengit temple to Double Six to have brunch in one of the many restaurants, or for a surfing lesson. An equal distance the other way is the renown surf hot spot Echo Beach.
Taxi or a car with a guide are readily available. Affordable car/motorbike hire can be arranged for the brave, or car & driver or guide to see the sights. Our Balinese brother in law is a tour guide with 7 seater & very good rates.
Other Things to Note
Our family will hook you up with all the Balinese cultural & arts events or if you just want to relax at home there is a favourite massage service (all very proper) we recommend who will come to the house.
For the more physical we know a great surf tour company who will take you to the best spot along the coast that only the locals know to catch that perfect wave. If you prefer quad bikes there is a great excursion where you can drive miles of empty beach. If its been raining take advantage of the high flow in the rivers with a rafting adventure.
Respect the local culture & customs.
No diving in the pool, it's too shallow.
Please do not leave your valuables unattended, lock then up in he safety box provided.
If you want to party all night great, just go out please! We value harmony with our neighbours.
If there's been a tropical downpour be careful on the stairs, they can get splashed & slippery!
Words can hardly describe this wonderful villa! It was so much more than we expected, and so much nicer than the pictures show! Wonderfully decorated, carved pillars and doors, the bathroom with an open sky, big, clean and very cozy rooms. We enjoyed the pool so much, and just sitting on the terrace having coffee and a chat was a wonderful and tranquil experience. The small house in the garden is very sweet too. The dog is friendly and we loved to have him around! Everything was perfect! Tim was very quick to reply and answer all our questions, his cousin was an excellent guide, and the stuff taking care of the house were very kind too. The villa is a real gem and a unique experience, which made our stay in Bali so much more memorable. An amazing experience!
The pictures don't do this house justice.. Full of ornate pillars and carved wooden panels.. the house offered a lovely private haven for my family..
The house is situated in a nice quiet area within walking distance of a handful of nice restaurants and a couple of well stocked supermarkets.. We caught a taxi most days to local beaches for $2/3 a time.. just stand at the end of the driveway and hail a passing taxi...
The pool was divine.. nice size.. around 3/4 feet deep... not overlooked..
Take advantage of the landlord's recommended transfer service... nice guy.. we used him for several trips into the island...
In summary... beautiful house.. safe for children,,, everything is available..
We had a wonderful stay at Tim's beautiful, traditional style Bali home in North Kuta. Loved all the amazing carved wooden doors, the pool! And the gorgeous Bali hut out the back. We all had to take turns in who got to sleep in it for the night. Tim's place is on a lovely street away from all the tourism crazyness but still a short taxi ride to Seminyak. There are loads of cute little spots to eat and drink around Umalas1 and 2. We highly recommend Warung Hotei on Umalas 1 for cheap and delicious food. Also our friend at the Smoothy bar at the bottom if Tim's drive, makes a killer Smoothy and was very helpful in organising a driver to take us sight seeing at Uluwatu and Tanah Lot. I also have to mention Tim's dog 'Boy' who we totally fell inlove with and wanted to keep him. boy looked after us our entire stay, walking with us to the shop, beauty parlour etc waiting while we are and then walking back with us. I would say to future guests that are not used to noise- bring war plugs for the roosters that will start crowing at 4am! Thanks Tim ! We look forward to our next stay at your villa! Xx McMillan Family
Thanks for the great review! Sorry about the rooster... So glad you loved the place & Boy. He's such a great good & very good securuty. When I'm there he will run at 20 mph beside my scooter all the way to the beach. Sometime he rides on the foot boards too. I like the Wendy House too, it was great that you mentioned how popular it was with your family. Please tell your friends as I need more guests to keep going as a holiday let. Suksma Tim
A charming villa decorated in exotic Indonesian style. The swimming pool and day beds are amazing. Its great for a romantic get away or a shopping holiday in Bali.
This was not my first visit to Rumah Asri, but loved it all the same. The place is beautiful, traditional house and the backyard is divine. Hidden away so very little noise besides a few animals in the morning, but it's the perfect way to wake up in Bali.
Umalas is a great area and little cafes all around.
Tim was really helpful throughout the whole process and him and the staff were wonderful as usual! Will come back and stay as much as I can without hesitation.
And boy the dog is a great little character! Miss him and his quirks dearly!
We stayed at Tim's secluded villa for a week. Its very private, set back from the road with a nice pool surrounded by a lush garden. The villa is great for anyone looking for an authentic Balinese experience.
The villa is also a very short walk to several convenience stores and, importantly, a very good cafe for those who appreciate good coffee, pastries, cakes and excellent sandwiches or bagels.
I live in rural Somerset with my Balenese wife & our teenage son. We bought Rumah Asri over ten years ago as a family home when we were were able to spent a lot of time in Bali. Since then family commitments have meant we live in the UK & only visit Bali occasionally hence Airb&b. We like to get immersed in the places we visit & with our family on hand in Umalas you have a conduit to Balinese life available if you so choose. I also lived in Vancouver for many years. We love animals, nature & great food. I am a keen angler & motorcyclist.
