About This Listing
I have a house in O-ji, a prime location n Tokyo.
The entire 2nd floor is available for rent.
------- YOUR ROOM -------
The room you will be sleeping in is size of "6 tatami-mats" (9.2 square meters).
The room is equipped with a single bed, TV, small table and wardrobe.
------- SHARED SPACE -------
Shared space includes living room with a low table, and in winter we have kotatsu - kotatsu is a traditional Japanese heater with table and blanket, keeps you warm and cozy while you sit by the table.
Sitting by kotatsu in a cold day watching TV and eating mikan (Japanese orange) is a very typical image in Japanese homes.
------- KITCHEN , BATH -------
There is a fully-equipped kitchen with a big fridge and freezer, microwave, toaster and gas stoves, perfect for people who want to cook at home and save money in this expensive city.
Also a deep bathtub and shower where you can soak yourself and wash away the day's fatigue.
------- ACCESS -------
The house is about 10 mins walk from Oji Station served by metro and JR train line, it's a convenient base for your travels.
It is close to the Ueno area (just 10 mins by train), which has many touristic places including Ueno Park, Tokyo National Museum. Ameyoko, and Ueno Zoo.
I will be happy to share some local travel tips and eat together if our schedules match!
Don't be party animal.
Staying at Tatsuyas old house was a great experience. Somehow it felt like being put into another decade, even though there's been all modern amenities you may need.
The surroundings are quiet and nice, especially if you wanna see, how the real local life goes on in Tokyo.
Oji Station is just a 10 minute walk away and from there you'll have easy access to any place in this exciting city!
Unfortunately this time i didn't meet Tatsuya in person, as he left home early and came back late.
Anyway! I would definitely come back and hope to meet him next time!
Highly recommended place - particularly if you consider that i was actually been given two very nice rooms for my own use!
Tatsuya's place in Oji is convenient to the MRT stations and about a 5 minute walk or so. His place is situated on a quiet street so you will get plenty of rest. There's no much in Oji but if you're looking for a different and relaxing environment, this might be the spot for you. Tatsuya is very kind although I didn't have time to meet him much. His roommate Fabien is a nice guy and easy to talk to as well. The apartment is clean and your room will be too. This place is great for those on a budget who want to meet great people and be close to central Tokyo too.
Tatusya's house is wonderful. It is located nearby a metro and JR station (2 lines) which enables you to move around Tokyo with no problem. The house is traditional japanese, which adds to a very original experience in Japan, it is clean and the neighbours are very nice people. Tatsuya puts much care in maintaining the house in a good condition. He is an open and very accesible landlord, plus he is a very nice man. I recommend staying in his place with no doubts.
Having booked our accommodations for Tokyo quite late into our trip, we were pretty hooped for options. Thankfully, Tatsuya's space near Oji Station was available and it took us no time at all to get acquainted with the area, although it took us a little while to find the building. We didn't meet Tatsuya during our stay and were independent the entire time (which was fine by us). The space itself is likely what you'd expect of a typical Japanese home, except with more space. We didn't use the kitchen and had our own Pocket Wi-Fi connection and it suited our needs just fine: a warm and affordable place to stay while in Tokyo.
This was a great experience in a real Japanese home. Tatsuya was very friendly and my first night there he had some friends over and I got to practice my Japanese while they got to practice their English. It was a lot of fun and a great start to my time in Japan. Also Tatsuya was very helpful in answering questions and finding me a spare towel.
The location is great. It's kind of a suburb, so not too busy, but only a 10 minute walk to Oji Station which can get you around Tokyo quite easily (has a JR station and a Tokyo Metro station). Also there are a lot of shops between the house and the station, including at least two 7-Eleven's (which have ATMs that can take foreign cards).
The listing mentions the 2nd floor being for rent and shows some pictures of what I think is the 2nd-floor room, with a regular bed. However when I got there another guest was staying on the 2nd floor so I was in a 1st-floor room with a Japanese-style futon; not what I was expecting but it was still OK. It was rather cold at night but there was an AC/heater unit in the room, although I didn't use it.
Happily the squat toilet shown in the pictures is not there; it has apparently been upgraded to a modern Japanese toilet complete with control panel. The bath/shower room is Japanese-style which is quite fun. Washer and dryer were free and easy-to-use.
I would stay here again and would recommend it to others.
Tatsuya was a great host. Very friendly and helpful. We spent a nice time in Tokyo and his house is well located. We enjoyed the cherry blossom at night together and it was a very Japanese experience for us. I recommend Tatsuya home 100%. You have the keys and are very independent .b
