Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.

Fast wifi

At 200 Mbps, you can take video calls and stream videos.
Our LOTR-themed Wizard's Cottage, along with our LOTR Stargazer treehouse, are on 2+ acres, & have been described as a "love letter to Tolkien himself."

Our home is about 200 ft. from the Cottage & far from Stargazer (back of the acreage). Greenery provides privacy. Enjoy our hot tub & Mordor -(dare to open the "Mor Do[o]r")!

We are solidly in farm country; 2 miles from lovely Cedar Lake; Soo Line Trail has hiking, biking & snowmobiling; park & bar in walking distance. Diversity is welcome.

The space
The cottage itself is beautiful and light. Its timbers were locally harvested and it is artfully crafted and decorated, with a soaring loft area accessed by ladder, and cozy living space with gas fireplace. Our new large (14 ft by 14 ft) Wizard's room offers even more artistic space. There is a very large 20' X 30' deck with chairs in the front of the cottage, a smaller, more private deck outside the back patio door, and a covered porch. The area is generally quiet and peaceful. The town welcomes you! Joan and I welcome you!

Guest access
The cottage will be unlocked for you prior to your arrival. Parking is available on the street and/or right next to the lodging. The acreage is yours to roam. Hiking and biking trails are nearby. A fountain and 16' waterfall is a water feature in our yard, creating pleasant "white" noise.
We also offer a full size refrigerator, a gas oven with four burners, a microwave, a kitchen sink, and a flush toilet.

Other things to note
We are 8 miles from bike/hiking trail access near Bowlus, MN, so you have a choice of whether you want to start your excursion from here or drive there.
Hunters and fishing folk are welcome during those seasons. For local hunting/fishing opportunities, please look up Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). We are in the corner of Morrison, Stearns and Todd Counties, and we recommend starting your searches there.
We welcome families, singles, couples, and pets. We have 2 friendly dogs, but they stick close to us and interact well with guests and their pets.
We are 1.5 - 2 hours from the Twin Cities, so consider us when you just want to get away from the crowds and view the stars without all the light pollution!

People are generally friendly and courteous here in Upsala. We have a wonderful meat market in town that makes their own brats--like pineapple/jalapeno--and award-winning bacon. We also have a thriving motor company, an Internet business, a good bar with excellent burgers, and a quick stop type gas station. Hiking, biking, boating, snowmobiling are all available nearby.

Joan and I enjoy hosting people and their pets and it's fun to provide them with this big acreage with a LOTR treehouse and a Wizard's cottage to make their own. We enjoy always updating and improving the property for us and our guests. I'm a retired English professor and love writing, gardening, and comedy!
