About this listing
Fully modernized, authentic Old World apartment located in the historic center of Cefalù, (also written Cefalu') just steps from the Piazza Duomo and less than a block from the sea.
Two bedrooms feature a double bed in each; the third, smallest bedroom has a single bed and desk. Besides the three private bedrooms, the apartment also includes 2 bathrooms (a shower in each), a living room, modern kitchen, and a gracious vestibule making this your stylish home-away-from-home in Sicily. A dozen hand-hewn steps take you from the picturesque shared courtyard on via Mandralisca to this first floor block of permanent residences. Traditional furnishings, t.v., tourist information, fresh linens and towels, and complimentary drinking water offer the comforts of a B&B with the freedom to dine-in on the local produce, wines, and cheeses. After a day on the beach or in the hubub of the streets, this apartment, unlike those along the seafront, is a haven from street noise and traffic despite its central location. As we have not allowed anyone to smoke in the apt. at any time since we moved in it is also completely smoke-free, a rarity in hotels and B&Bs in Sicily.
Because all of the charms of Cefalu’ and the surrounding area can be reached on foot (departures by train, bicycle, and buses begin nearby, too) it is not necessary to have a car. If you do, parking areas dot the seafront (5-15 minute walk to the west) and the new marina (15-20 minute walk to the east). A detailed, insider's guide to parking in Cefalu' is provided at check-in.
Nightly rate shown is for 2 guests (+one child aged 3 or under free) and may be higher in high season and lower in other months. A portable crib is available on request.
When inquiring about a stay, please be sure to include some information about yourself and your party so we can determine if the location and amenities at via Mandralisca are a good fit for you. If you are new to Airbnb and have no reviews, providing sufficient details in your Airbnb profile will expedite your inquiry.
Weekly or monthly rates currently in effect are valid from Sept. 25, 2013 until April 1, 2014 only. Off-season rates may be negotiable depending on the length of your stay. Send us an inquiry to begin the conversation.
Please note that if you are booking flights to Palermo's Punta Raisi airport, public ground transportation from the airport to Cefalu' ends at approximately 8:00 pm (20.00). A taxi from Palermo to Cefalu' costs at least 89 euros one-way. A flight that arrives after 7:00 pm (19.00) will require you to hire a taxi or rent a car. We can help you avoid the expense of a taxi if you check with us before you book your flight to Palermo.
As hosts, we're eager to help you beat the tourist scene and experience this fascinating medieval town at your pace--just ask!
Free wi fi: Login instructions are pinned to the bulletin board in the main floor bedroom. Please troubleshoot the connection for your computer if necessary. Should there be further issues, please contact us by email. Internet service is not as reliable as many of us are used to but we can restore it for you in 24 hours if you let us know.
Interaction with Guests
We typically interact with guests before and after their stay by email only because we are not full-time residents in Cefalu'. Guests have complete privacy and autonomy once they have meet our local agent for check-in. Unless they have reason to ask for his assistance during the stay, guests will not see him again until the morning of check-out.
Other Things to Note
The house manual is in the apt. (hard copy); the cleaning crew usually puts it in the drawer of the small shelf next to the sofa.
Positively no smoking inside the apartment or in the courtyard. To help our guests avoid temptation, there is a 300 euro cleaning fee due at check out if we find evidence of smoking in the apt. (This has never happened yet and this rule is intended to maintain a smoke-free refuge for all of our guests, all the time.) As this apartment is in a block of private residences, we ask that our guests maintain a level of peace and quiet that matches the setting--happy but not rowdy! That is, no parties or overnight guests allowed. Other house rules regarding common sense safety are explained in the house manual provided upon arrival.
Nancy, thanks a lot for a great apartment!
The apartment is spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable, just as expected from description. It is the very center of a historic part of Cefalu, plenty of restaurants/cafes around. Beach is few steps away.
Wifi worked perfectly well, we used it all the time on 4-5 devices.
We spent four nights in Cefalu, and this apartment was a very handy place to stay.
The location is ideal. As described, it is less than five minutes from the lovely sandy beach, and the beautiful walk along the sea-front. It's around one minute from the Duomo, and is right in the heart of the historic centre, with nice atmospheric streets, and little shops to be checked out. This meant we could pop back during the day, as needed.
The apartment is very spacious, with three proper bedrooms, and two shower/toilets. I had noticed many other places described a sofa bed in a living room, as being a bedroom! It also has a well equipped kitchen and nicely furnished living area.
The broadband was perfectly good - I noticed some earlier reviews described it as not so reliable, but Nancy indicated they have recently changed providers. I would note that mobile phone reception often dropped completely in the apt. Not an issue, but just be aware of this, if you are expecting to receive calls.
I would suggest that this apartment may not be ideal for someone who is infirm, or disabled, as you need to need to walk from the top of the pedestrianized, cobbled, street with your luggage, and the apartment is also accessed via outdoor steps.
That said, we were able to walk from it to the train station, with our luggage, so again, very convenient....
Nancy also responded to my initial request, and follow up queries very quickly, so booking was quite simple.
This was my first time booking with Airbnb, and it was very positive.
I would also really recommend Cefalu as a place to visit - it is much nicer than Palermo!!
In addition to the things I mentioned above, do take a few hours to climb "the Rock", which is a good challenge, and affords brilliant views.
Thanks for your detailed review Elaine--I agree with all your observations. The dropped calls on your cell must have to do with the meter-thick walls that are characteristic of all the buildings in the historic heart of the city. We've experienced this too but maybe less than our guests because we have a local cell phone. We see it as an extra incentive to unplug more during a vacation and hope that with texting and free wifi our guests can stay in touch with others as much as they need to. Come stay with us again when you get the chance!
Very nice apt. Comfortable. Good location. Sig Calio is great. Taxis's cannot maneuver in the narrow streets so we walked with luggage from the end of the street. Sig. Calio met us half way and helped. Not so bad. Nancy goes out of her way to prepare you with all sorts of info about the area and her communication from the get go is awesome. Thanks Nancy.
We really loved Cefalù and Nancy's apartment was perfect for us.
It is situated right in the heart of the old town with restaurants and cafes all around and a very short walk to the beach.
The apartment was very clean and well equipped and a truly relaxing place to stay.
We were met by Nancy's agent Calio, who was very friendly and helpful and not put out at all when we had to call him because we couldn't get the key to work in the door (there is a knack).
Nancy sent us lots of information to help with locating the apartment and with parking (you cannot park in the old part of town) as well as some good tips on places to eat and things to see.
I would recommend this apartment to anyone wishing to visit Cefalù and would definitely stay again if we get the opportunity to head back to Sicily.
This was our first stay time using airbnb and the whole experience was positive.
A wonderful apartment in a perfect part of Cefalu. Right in the old town. Clean and lots of room, with a wonderful kitchen and stove, plus washing machine. We found a car park in one of the free places mentioned by Nancy. The information provided was absolutely exceptional, thank you. We climbed the rock, there is now a small charge for that and also completed the lovely walk to la Calura.
Nancy's place is in the heart of the old town just down the street from the lovely Duomo, constructed by the Normans. It is a great location to explore the Cefalu. We actually appreciated Cefalu for a nice gourmet store with a nice selection and great prices on some of the finest Sicilian wines, eg Benanti and Planeta. Walking along the sea is a nice part of Cefalu, and one should not miss climbing up to the top of the 'rock' around which the town is built.
While we didn't meet Nancy, her place was an absolute dream for our weekend in Cefalu. Right in the center of the old part of the city, it was steps from the Duomo and the beach. The place itself was big, spacious and impeccably clean. Nancy was also great to work with beforehand. She sent us recommendations of what to do, where to eat and everything in between. Would recommend both Cefalu and Nancy's place for any vacation!
