Oneonta is a friendly and safe upstate community, also known as 'The City of the Hills'. Oneonta is nestled in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains along the banks of the Susquehanna River. Binghamton and Albany are easy accessible through I88. Our street is a quiet and located in a spacious neighborhood with Wilbur park (with free public swimming pool and tennis courts) on a stone throw distance. Beautiful and historic Main Street in Oneonta offers a variety of stores selling everything from books to guitar pedals to handmade local crafts. Main Street is a 10 minutes walk from our home. The shopping mall is a 5 minute ride by car. Oneonta has an abundance of great places to eat dinner, lunch or have a coffee/ tea break. The city offers a variety of parks and a great selection of recreational facilities, sport facilities and bars with live music.
There is a good local bus service in town and regular service to Cooperstown. Adirondack Trailways offers daily trips to Albany, Binghamton and NY city as well on a 15 minute walking distance. Please let us know if you need a pick up or a ride during your stay.
Other Things to Note
Last year we have donated all our Airbnb earnings to UNICEF and ran the NYC Marathon for the UNICEF team. For this year we will stay committed to donate a part of all proceeds to UNICEF. Indirectly you'll support this cause by staying with us in Oneonta!
We'd like to stick to a no pets and no smoking inside the house policy. Other than that, we don't have rules, just make yourself at home!
Henryk and Ingrid were very good hosts. We communicated by email a couple of times and the room was just fine. The neighborhood features a pretty park just a block away that is great for walking, and the town is situated well for touring the Catskills, Cooperstown, and the Hudson River Valley. It was delightful to leave the windows open in the summer to catch a breeze. I felt welcomed and comfortable in the home. Front porch is great for sitting.
Henryk and Ingrid were so welcoming and accommodating to us since we had an extra friend with us. Their home is adorable and the guest room is filled with light and very comfortable. The breakfast was the sweetest and fresh bread was a real treat! Would recommend staying here to all! Go O-State!
We got a little lost leaving NYC, it was easy to communicate to Ingrid that we would be getting in late. She stayed up and greeted us upon our arrival, showed us around the house and was warm & inviting.
Henryk hosted a very pleasant stay for a visit to the Baseball HOF. The rental space is a private room and bath added onto the main house, with a separate entrance. The rooms are as they are described, clean and well equipped. One note: the space has no AC so it might get warm on days hotter than when we visited. Henryk is such a welcoming host that we felt comfortable and at ease during our stay. We would not hesitate recommending staying here.
We needed a room on short notice and this was a fun pace to stay. Fresh bread and organic coffee for breakfast, treats from the Netherlands and sweet, hospitable hosts made our stay much more than just "a room!" We wish we had found this place years go!
About the Host, Henryk Ingrid
We are a Dutch couple living in the USA. In 2012 we moved from the beautiful Dutch city of Groningen in the Netherlands to the town of hills 'Oneonta' (upstate NY). Airbnb is a great way for us to explore all the beauty that the US has to offer. We travel a lot and love to experience life to the maximum! We like meeting new people and the concept of Airbnb. We'll both run the NY Marathon this year in support of Unicef. 50% of the earning we generate through Airbnb will be donated to UNICEF. Together with our guests we would like to contribute to their main goal: ZERO preventable child deaths in the world!.
