Oneonta is a friendly and safe upstate community, also known as 'The City of the Hills'. Oneonta is nestled in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains along the banks of the Susquehanna River. Binghamton and Albany are easy accessible through I88. Our street is a quiet and located in a spacious neighborhood with Wilbur park (with free public swimming pool and tennis courts) on a stone throw distance. Beautiful and historic Main Street in Oneonta offers a variety of stores selling everything from books to guitar pedals to handmade local crafts. Main Street is a 10 minutes walk from our home. The shopping mall is a 5 minute ride by car. Oneonta has an abundance of great places to eat dinner, lunch or have a coffee/ tea break. The city offers a variety of parks and a great selection of recreational facilities, sport facilities and bars with live music.
There is a good local bus service in town and regular service to Cooperstown. Adirondack Trailways offers daily trips to Albany, Binghamton and NY city as well on a 15 minute walking distance. Please let us know if you need a pick up or a ride during your stay.
Other Things to Note
Last year we have donated all our Airbnb earnings to UNICEF and ran the NYC Marathon for the UNICEF team. For this year we will stay committed to donate a part of all proceeds to UNICEF. Indirectly you'll support this cause by staying with us in Oneonta!
We'd like to stick to a no pets and no smoking inside the house policy. Other than that, we don't have rules, just make yourself at home!
Our very first Airbnb experience could not have been nicer. Ingrid made us feel like special guests in her lovely home. The room was exactly as it appeared, with many special personal amenities. Their home is very conveniently located within walking distance of downtown Oneanta which has an abundance of nice restaurants. We took their advice and ate dinner at Autumn Café. Delicious! Our only regret is that we weren't able to get to know Ingrid and Henryk better and take advantage of walking in the nearby park. Time just didn't allow.
Ingrid made us feel at home right away. (Henryk wasn't home, so we didn't meet him.) The room was lovely and comfortable, with a nice attached bathroom. And there was even a basket of necessities, which came in handy since my husband forgot his toothbrush! Ingrid was kind enough to make us coffee in the morning and to lend us her pass for the pool at the local park. The house is on a quiet residential street close to downtown, and very close to a big town park. We plan to return next month for parents' weekend at Hartwick College, where our daughter just started.
My boyfriend and I stayed for a long weekend in the private room at Henryk and Ingrid's. From the start of communicating with Henryk and Ingrid they were always so helpful and offered so many recommendations to enhance our trip and visit to Oneonta and Cooperstown. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable and Henryk and Ingrid made us feel right at home! Ingrid was so welcoming and provided delicious home made granola for breakfast and invited us out for local, weekend activities. The only downfall is that we wish we had more time to stay and visit!
Although we never got a chance to meet either of them, we felt right at home when we arrived. We were in town for a day-long concert, so we spent a lot of time out, but we couldn't wait to get back. I look forward to spending more time upstate so i get the opportunity to stay there and (hopefully) play some of those board games!!!
Henryk and Ingrid were out of time the night of my stay. However, they were extremely helpful corresponding with me. This was my first Air BnB experience and it was without a doubt a wonderful one. They gave me very specific details to put my at ease showing up. Upon arrival the room was made up with lots of little touches that made my boyfriend and I feel at home. The location was nice, all the people we met were extremely friendly. This is a great place to stop for Cooperstown.
I am sad I never met Henryk and Ingrid, but their suggestions even from miles away made our experience a lovely one!
I stayed in Henryk and Ingrid's room for a week during my son's baseball tournament at the All Star Village. The room was just as described, quaint and inviting. Ingrid was very responsive via email and text leading up to and during my stay. She opened up her home and made me feel welcome to make myself at home. Thank you!
About the Host, Henryk Ingrid
We are a Dutch couple living in the USA. In 2012 we moved from the beautiful Dutch city of Groningen in the Netherlands to the town of hills 'Oneonta' (upstate NY). Airbnb is a great way for us to explore all the beauty that the US has to offer. We travel a lot and love to experience life to the maximum! We like meeting new people and the concept of Airbnb. We'll both run the NY Marathon this year in support of Unicef. 50% of the earning we generate through Airbnb will be donated to UNICEF. Together with our guests we would like to contribute to their main goal: ZERO preventable child deaths in the world!.
