The bedroom has a traditional feel with plenty of closet and storage space. Filtered water in a carafe is at your bedside. And of course I have wireless high-speed internet connection.
You will be sharing the house with me, the home owner/host. You will have access to my deck and garden and may enjoy all of the common areas of the house and can use the refrigerator. After a day exploring the vineyards, many guests hang out on my back deck, enjoying wine and snacks before going out for dinner. Street parking is easy and available on the side of the house. The neighborhood is safe and quiet.
While you are here, I hope you can take the time to walk with the locals along "The Path" from my house to our historic town plaza. On this 2 mile walk, you will see an imposing visitor's attraction, General Vallejo's estate, La Case Grande. In our village you will discover wine tasting alleys, charming shops, fabulous restaurants, Mission San Francisco Solano, and the nostalgic Sebastiani Theater which is home to the Sonoma International Film Festival. Our fabulous Ramekins Culinary School for home cooks and the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa are just up the street. Nearby are hiking trails, historical sites, and year around festivals celebrating food and wine. The Farmer's Market on Tuesday evenings in the town Plaza offers an opportunity to meet locals, picnic on the lawn and listen to live music.
I am a retired marketing executive and world traveler, now indulging in my favorite avocation, cooking and informal entertaining, and would love to have you join me for breakfast and get to know you. Everything is prepared with local ingredients and is fresh and seasonal. Complimentary breakfast includes Peets coffee, black, green and herbal teas, fresh fruit, and a variety of home cooked specialties ranging from sourdough waffles to lemon blueberry muffins, biscotti, granola and yoghurt, eggs and artisanal breads. I am writing a cookbook and testing recipes, so you may be invited to "taste" what's cookin'.
If you want an insider's experience of Sonoma, ask me to plan a self-guided customized experience that includes anything from wine tastings to museums, thermal mineral waters with a relaxing day spa and messages, cooking school, local hikes, picnics, farmer's market and other wine-country events going on during your visit. There are bike rentals in town if you want to pedal through the vineyards. I am pleased to make dinner reservations for you.
Come make your own special history in the Valley of the Moon! I love hearing about your travel stories and contributing to your wine country memories. Learn about the colorful history of Sonoma Plaza, the birth of the short-lived California Republic after the Bear Flag Revolt here in 1846, which proclaimed California's independence from Mexico. Here is the story of why the grizzly bear is honored in the California State flag.
I do not have any pets. This is an environmentally friendly household. There are a couple of steps to the front door and to the back deck. The neighborhood is safe and quiet and street parking is easy.
To expedite booking, it helps me to see a profile picture and a few words about yourself and anyone traveling with you. And feel free to ask for any additional information about me and my home. I want you to feel "at home" and comfortable here like family.
Thank you so much for your interest! I look forward to meeting you. My home is available by the day, week, or month. Bookings for a month or longer can be for the whole house. Please inquire about whole house arrangements. In addition to the guest room and bath described above, there is a large master bedroom with en suite bathroom and glass doors opening to the back yard garden. Guests booking for a week+ have access to the kitchen.
NOTE: We have micro-climates in Sonoma. So dress in layers and be prepared for weather that can range from cool foggy mornings, to warm afternoons, to cool evenings. It is a dry climate and it only rains in the winter and spring. Fall brings the busy harvest when the vines turn vibrant colors and the air is fragrant with the grapes. Come winter, the vines and trees lose their leaves and reveal their "boney" structure, and colors are more monochromatic. With spring rains, the hills turn green and the fields are carpeted in yellow with mustard in full bloom. When summer arrives, the vines and trees leaf out and every flower, from roses to lavender, blooms, creating a tapestry of beautiful colors. The tempo of the land is fabulous from season to season. It is grounding, peaceful, calming. Come any season, immerse yourself in our lifestyle, and feel renewal, again and again.
Sonoma County was named the top wine destination in the U.S. by TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Awards 2012. Sonoma is the place for foodies and wine lovers. Come enjoy a savory culinary experience any time of the year.
Guests have access to the entire house, back deck and yard. Only my master suite and personal office are private. I do not offer use of my kitchen for cooking but you may use the refrigerator. Free Wi-fi is available throughout the house. My washer and dryer is available upon request. Street parking is easy in front of my house in a safe, convenient neighborhood. The historical Sonoma Plaza is less than 2 miles away with easy hiking or biking along The Path away from traffic. It is the perfect location for easy access to sights, wineries, spas, hiking and biking trails, Sonoma County Cheese trails, retail shops, restaurants, regional parks, cultural events and performances. You can even walk to the movie theater and restaurants just steps from my front door.
I live in my home and am typically here to greet you, give you a welcoming reception with wine and small bites, get you oriented, give you the key to the house, help plan your wine country itinerary, and suggest restaurants and make dinner reservations. I serve coffee and tea with home made breakfast if you wish to join me. I love getting to know you and visiting if you enjoy interaction and am also respectful of your wishes for privacy and alone time. On rare occasions I will not be available but have a host concierge greet you to get you oriented, and you will have the whole house to yourself.
My neighborhood is beautifully nested in a small valley next to a mountain range. It is a residential area with tree lined streets and a small park studded with ancient oak trees. The area is relatively flat with some gentle hills that are easy for biking and walking. It is safe and quiet here, and my guests love the convenience of parking in front of the house and easy access to the wineries and the Sonoma Plaza.
Getting here from the airport requires a car. Taking a taxi is possible but it is an hour+ drive on the meter. Although there is local bus, and limo service in the wine country, it is best to have a car to get around. Taxis are available. Bicycles are readily available for rent and biking through the vineyards and enjoying a picnic is a favorite way to spend a day.
If you need a room, last minute or in advance, and you are not sure I can accept a reservation because my calendar looks booked, please call. I may be able to accommodate you or give you a referral to other hosts.
My guests comment on my art collection, my garden, my generosity in sharing what I am cooking or testing for my cookbook, occasional runs to the farmer's market, my knowledge of Marin and Sonoma County, and how to get the most out of a short visit to the wine country and California. I am a Californian, have lived in Sonoma for the past 15 years, and have explored every nook and cranny of the area. I am a former sales and marketing executive and have traveled much of the world for business and pleasure. It is fun sharing my favorite places with you and learning about your travels and interests. I love to talk about about farm to table cooking Sonoma style and adding to your knowledge of the best of Sonoma.
Please note that I am required to collect a Transient Occupancy Tax, or ‘bed tax’, under State Revenue and Taxation Code Section 7280. This tax is levied at a rate of 9% in Sonoma County and is a revenue used by the local government. On my room rate of $125/night, the tax is $11.25/night. Please be prepared to pay this by cash or check.
Note: My home features the safety products recommended by Airbnb: Home First Aid Kit, Emergency Safety Card, Smoke and CO Detector.
We spent Valentine's weekend with Farrel and and what a LOVELY experience it was. Mi Casa es Su Casa is the well-known Spanish saying, and Farrel certainly made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. After a busy day of travel and sight seeing, we thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the wine, cheese and insider tips for making the most of our trip to the beautiful Sonoma Valley. Farrel's home is conveniently located just a short drive from the historic Sonoma plaza. Her home is immaculate, spacious and comfortable. Farrel's sun-drenched kitchen provided the perfect setting for a delicious breakfast and easy-going conversation, a wonderful way to get the day started. Thanks to Farrel's recommendations, we were able to visit the most amazing vineyards in the Sonoma-Napa Valley. Thank you Farrell for making of our vacation an unforgetable experience.
Soledad, you are the treasure. The joyful experience is mutual. You made my Valentine's weekend just having the privilege of giving you my best hospitality with a hugs. Your friendship is such a gift. Thanks for taking the time to write your lovely review. Your satisfaction with the airbnb experience makes it so worthwhile to be a host!
My mother and I had a wonderful stay at Farrel's home. Our visit was very agreeable. Our host was accommodating, interesting and delightful.
My husband and I had a wonderful time in Sonoma at Farrel's home. It was one of the most fun vacations we have ever had. Farrel took care of all our dinner (email hidden)e restaurants she reserved were excellent. She also left maps and information for us to use as we explored Napa and Sonoma.
It was our first time to try AirB&B and our first time to visit Sonoma. We are so glad we chose to stay with Farrel. It was such a comfortable place to stay and we felt like we were staying with a friend who we just hadn't met yet! Lovely breakfast, conversation, and recommendations. 5 stars all around!
Farrel made our visit to Sonoma so very special.
She helped with planning on which wineries to visit on the way from SFO, where to stop for lunch and dinner! She went out of her way to make us a dinner reservation.
She is so lovely and smart! We completely trust her with all her suggestions and turned out we had an amazing time.
Her only house rule "when you're here, you're family" - we felt very comfortable staying with her.
Her house is gorgeous. The room is very comfy.
I highly recommend everyone who wish to visit Sonoma or Napa to stay with Farrel.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful, kind review. Knowing you were happy here is my reward for being an airbnb host. I know it takes time to write you comments and I appreciate your feedback. You were a charming guest and I loved making sure you enjoyed Valley of the Moon Hospitality!
I got back to Shanghai 2 weeks already but still enjoying those 2 nights stayed at Farrel's place.
I was actually received by her concierge Cat and never met Farrel in person. But I felt all the considerate details she prepared for her guest, the instructions on how to use the house, the well made bed, clean bath room, set table for breakfast and foods in the fridge. This was not my first experience with Airbnb but staying at this Sonoma Country Home was unbeatable compared with any world class hotels. The cosy home touch, the light but artistic decor, comfortable sofa and lightings, the CDs she put in the stereo, the well grown back yard!
I toured 3 wineries in the Valley and bought 6 bottles of fine wines but still can't help going back "home" to enjoy the house. I just want to go back!
We can't say enough about Farrel and her hospitality, kindness, fabulous cooking and cheerful advice on touring the Sonoma/Napa area!! Her home is beautiful, bed very comfortable, bathroom clean as a whistle and morning breakfasts to die for!! But more than anything, we were felt to be accepted as part of Farrel's "family" and her kindness and caring over planning our 2 days in the area was so detailed and informative. She welcomed us with a lovely glass of the distinctive Sonoma red Zinfadel wine upon our arrival. Her dedication and caring were even felt after we left Sonoma as I left my jacket by mistake at her home and she contacted me and is mailing it back to me! You can't go wrong staying with Farrel! A little piece (and peace ) of Heaven! and she Angel! Jan from Oakville, Ontario, Canada
We had a wonderful stay with Farrel, she was very welcoming and helped us plan our trip to Sonoma. She made great local recommendations that were some of our favorite stops during our visit. He her home was comfortable and clean and located just short drive from the town square and right off Sonoma highway which was very convenient for wine tasting. She was a lovely host!
Great stay in Sonoma - felt like I was with a close friend or relative. Great suggestions on wineries to tour, food, or things to do in Sonoma. House was very cozy and best of all - very clean. We felt right at home!
Farrel is a kind, interesting and generous hostess. It was a pleasure spending many hours chatting with her about all her great adventures. Her home is beautiful and welcoming and well situated. We would heartedly recommend her BnB to anyone.
