  • We had a fantastic time in Westport & couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Mairead went out of her way to come & meet us & guide us through the town to the Garden cottage on the very busy Westport festival weekend. Unfortunately we didn't meet Brian as he was away but Mairead gave us everything that we needed in a most hospitable way during our stay including some great tips about what to see in town, going to the festival &suggesting dinner at their local, The Sheebeen which was fabulous. We have no hesitation in recommending the Garden cottage as the place to stay in Westport.

  • We stayed at "The Garden Cottage" for two nights. It was gorgeous, peaceful and has the most wonderful garden. Thank you Mairead, you made our stay very special, and the beautiful freshly made bread and eggs from the girls! Poppy the dominant hen was very entertaining! Our 13yr old son had a great time san xbox, he cycled for miles on the Great Western Greenway. The Greenway is accessable from the cottage and a very safe short stroll to the Sheebeen pub which has the friendliest staff and great choice of food. All in all an excellent place to stay and we will certainly be back we highly recommend staying here and hope to return.

  • Our stay in Westport couldn't have been better - the cottage was clean, homely, very comfortable and is in a beautiful location by the coast (and near the Sheebeen pub, where you can get a great meal). Máiréad was a fantastic host, from the very kind lift from the railway station to the home-baked bread left for us in the kitchen on arrival - we felt totally at home from the very beginning. We had a great time and would recommend the cottage to anyone looking to have a relaxing weekend in the west.

  • I experienced an unforgettable weekend with Mairead & Brian last week. I'd go as far to say that it was one of the most enjoyable breaks that I've ever had.

It all started when I first contacted Mairead to enquire about the possibility of staying at the stunning Garden Cottage. Mairead thankfully thought that we'd be a good fit so once it was booked - Mairead was so helpful and offered lots of tips on things to do, restaurants to book, places to rent bikes and so much more in the week leading up to our stay.

Then on arrival late on a Friday evening, we met Mairead and Brian at the Garden House. The photos do not do the house and its setting justice - it is stunning and it's right on the edge of Clew Bay. Mairead had just baked some bread, retrieved some eggs from the house chickens and made the most amazing hummus ever - so she kindly left some in the house for us. Delicious. The house itself is perfect. No TV, wood pellet fire, so many quirky bits and pieces, mezzanine level bedroom - EVERYTHING you'd need for the cosiest of stays.

We rented bikes in Westport Harbour (10min walk) and cycled to Mulranny via Newport of the Great Western Greenway. Cannot recommend this enough!

Mairead and Brian were available all weekend by text and offered lots of ongoing advice as the weekend went on. They are the ultimate AirBnB hosts and this is the nicest AirBnB property that I've stayed in Ireland.

We are already planning our next trip to Westport after our stay in the Garden House and hopefully we can stay with Mairead and Brian again.

The perfect weekend with the perfect hosts in the perfect house.

    Response from Brian:

Thank you so much , Andrew , - a very kind and generous review .. And I promise that Poppy , Maisie and Daisybelle, aka the house chickens , really do have their own separate hen house to sleep in !
Look forward to welcoming you back to Westport .
    Regards :)

  • Our stay here was wonderful and exceeded all expectations. The cottage and views were beautiful. It feels like a home and is finished to a very high standard. But aside from that, as a host Mairead and her family could not do more for us, they were extremely attentive and thoughtful - it was particularly lovely being welcomed to the cottage with a smell of home cooked bread, courtesy of Mairead.

    Would highly recommend!
