About this listing
Our cool and unique Tree House is the definition of island style peace and harmony. It comfortably fits two to four and is hidden away on an old coconut plantation with an ocean vista and just a short walk from Taveuni's best beaches.
Immerse yourself in the luxury of the Fiji Islands. This unique and opulent opportunity offers couples, families and perhaps even battered backpackers a place to relax and rejuvenate amid a flourishing postcard-perfect paradise. You can see happiness from here.
Taveuni, aptly named Fiji’s Garden Isle, is the country’s third largest island and is comprised of one very large, but dormant, volcano. Steeped in nature’s sweetest secrets, with a Mataqali (family) of friendly Fijians charged as her caretakers, the island and surrounding waters are home to the Rainbow Reef, one of many world-famous dive sites; Lake Tagimoucia, the hiding place of the fabled Tagimoucia flower; Bouma National Heritage Park, Waitavala Waterslide and Lavena Point, which each boast several majestic mid-jungle waterfalls; as well as Ravilevu Nature Preserve and Taveuni Forest, two of the island’s most prolific bird sanctuaries.
Incredibly, the island offers even more. Eco-industry abounds here, keeping the island in its presently pristine condition. The land is laden with organically grown fruit, root and vegetable gardens. Fresh fish are sustainably farmed. Even the sweet-smelling coconut and frangipani massage oils are sourced from the islands own natural resources and created using practices passed down through generations of earth-aware Fijians.
With so much natural beauty, tradition and inherent culture, it’s easy to see why discerning vacationers and enchanted expats, along with their fellow Fijians, have been hiding away here all these years.
Maravu, the exclusive resort of which your private rental is a part,is nestled nicely between Welagi and Naselesele villages, right around the corner from the Matei Airport, and within walking distance to the beach, bus and local convenience shops.
Our Treehouse, the highest house on the property, is fitted out with the finest of Fiji furniture. Stress mysteriously disappears as you ascend the steps to your treetop retreat, turn and take in the view of Somosomo Strait stretching as far as the eye can see. Paradise looms at every angle… especially from the sprawling deck which runs the length of the structure and houses a hammock, chaise lounge chairs, outdoor dining area and even a secret stone shower where you can soap up in style beneath the sunny (or starry) skies. Inside, you’ll find the hardwood floors coupled with locally hand-made furniture make quite a cozy sitting and sleeping space. Soft leather warrior-style club chairs create the perfect space to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book, a beautifully draped four-poster bed sets the scene for romance uninhibited, and if things get too hot, just fold open your glass paneled front wall to let in the soft sea breeze.
A slight twist on the conventional is what really makes Maravu surprisingly special. This remote resort has been reimagined into a humble hostel, where local interaction and eco-living are the order of the day.
Solar panels are now in place where gas-guzzling generators stood before, providing evening energy to the resort’s main building alone. All other structures on the property are provided with Fijian-made candles (and bright twinkling stars) to light their night once the sun has set.
Staff operate serenely, on Fiji time, and can often be found conversing quietly with guests or giving weaving, cooking and other village-life lessons. Happily they share their culture with any eager ears they happen to come across.
Although your private Treehouse is set apart from the larger resort compound, you are welcome at any time to join other guests in resort activities or make use of the restaurant, bar, pool or spa. Alternatively, you may choose to relax in the reclusiveness of your treetop sanctuary and allow our smiling staff to provide you with in-room food, beverage and massage services.
Our concierge booking desk is also at your disposal, and our local team is ready at all times to share their secret island knowledge to help you plan-out, make reservations and schedule transportation for your idyllic day.

The Taveuni Treehouse is a lovely - and very large - private bure perched at the back end of the Maravu backpackers' resort. It has an absolutely tremendous view and is set just far enough away from the main lodge to allow guests to find solitude while at the same time enjoy the food and activities the resort makes available (if they so choose). Beyond the staggeringly wonderful view, the main upside of the treehouse is the truly wonderful hospitality of the staff. They are a special crew and are working lovingly to revive and transform what had been a 5-star place into a friendly ecolodge. It's an ambitious and impressive project, but one that is quickly creating a comfortable space that's not the typical, overpriced and inauthentic Fijian getaway. Maravu is also within walking distance of several supermarkets and a number of fine eateries. And diving in the nearby Somosomo is among the best in the world! You'll be most comfortable here and, if you do have any issues while staying at a place that's still in something of a transition, just speak up. The team wants to please and will do everything they can to make your stay memorable and exceptional. As for Henry, he's a class act and all communications were first rate. Vinaka!
The place was absolutely amazing! It was quiet with a beautiful view. The resort staff was lovely and was always available to help me and advice me. I would recommend this place if you go to Taveuni.
The treehouse exceeded every expectation that we had prior to arriving. We couldn't have had a better experience than the one we had this past week. The entire staff were among the best caliber of people that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. They were all warm and welcoming and never without a smile on their faces. They all made us feel like family. The treehouse itself had arguably the best view in Taveuni. We woke up every morning just to open the doors and watch the sunrise up through the trees. It was truly breathtaking. By night, stargazing came all too easy. We found ourselves getting lost in the vast blanket of the milky way. All that was missing was a good telescope. I highly recommend the day trips that Maravu has to offer. Our waterfall guide (Nu) was very knowledgeable and we became good friends in my time there. He welcomed me to his village to drink Kava with the chief and tour the grounds. It was one of my favorite experiences. The bar and kitchen staff were never a disappointment. I think all of our meals were consumed right there at the bartop while conversing with Tima or Sao (2 very lovely ladies). No matter what we found ourselves doing in the daytime, we always ended up in the Kava circle drinking from a coconut shell and listening to Sunny play the guitar, leading the group in Fijian songs and friendly conversation. A great pass time. 1 week turned out to not be nearly enough time to experience the wonders and serenity of the island and we hope to return soon. I've dubbed it one of my favorite places on the planet. Vinaka to the staff of Maravu! Hope to see you all well in the future.
We had only planned to stay in the treehouse for one night as we were due to travel to Nanuku Venu (Henry's other listing) by boat the following morning to spend a couple of nights there for my girlfriend's birthday, but due to high winds this trip had to be cancelled meaning we stayed here for an extra two nights. Overall the treehouse is brilliant. The view from the decking doesn't cease to amaze and the amount of space inside is great. As a couple we had a living area with day bed, and a bedroom and two bathrooms which is awesome considering the price per night. The air con is very efficient at cooling the place down and the privacy from the rest of the resort is excellent for those who like to walk around without fear of onlookers. The resort itself, which other reviews have mentioned this listing being a part of, is really well done and not what you'd expect of a resort. We hate the idea of resorts but were pleasantly surprised by how this one had been executed. It doesn't feel like one due to the spread out nature of the place. And it still somehow manages to stay feeling very Fijian. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. As we ended up spending the birthday on the resort, the staff did a lovely job of making the birthday feel special, even baking a cake and bringing it out of the kitchen with a very 'Fijian' sounding rendition of Happy Birthday. Everyone took the time to learn our names and each night was spent around a bowl of Kava, singing songs and playing guitar. You may need to remind the staff of a couple of requests over the course of your stay, but if you're operating on Fiji time, this doesn't really matter. There are a few things that could take this room from 4 star to 5 star though in my opinion, which should be very easy to do. Firstly the mosquito netting is quite old and full of holes, which defeated its purpose as a barrier against flying vermin. Buy the coils from the local supermarket, they really help. Secondly, the hot water was quite unreliable. We were told this was down to water pressure, but hopefully something can be done for future. Thirdly, many of the lights leading up to the treehouse are not working, so bring a torch. The icing on the cake would be to get the hot tub working! As an Airbnb host, Henry is top notch. A lovely guy to speak to on the phone (top tip: get a local SIM card. We were only in Fiji for 10 days but for $25 we got 2GB of data and a load of free minutes and texts. Might be worth doing this in Nadi as in not sure if you can get this on Taveuni. Maybe. Check) and very communicative. His responsiveness meant we could stay updated on weather...
The treehouse was great! I will advise that the resort it is associated with is actually a backpackers place, which made my stay even more incredible. There was an amazing sense of community and friendship (sounds hippie but it was cool) I would also recommend to pack lightly there are 72 stairs to climb and while the staff will take your luggage up for you, you will feel like a jerk if you've overpacked. The views were incredible, and the kava circles at the common area were so fun. I would recommend this place to anyone trying to have a true Fijian experience.
The treehouse looks just like the pictures and was very comfortable. It is also air conditioned, although the power is turned off once in a while, but that is Fiji. It is a two room house, with the second bedroom being the living area, not a true two bedroom, but it does have a door which closes them off as well as two full bathrooms plus an outdoor shower. The staff at Maravu is very welcoming and helpful. As Henry honestly describes, it is now a backpacker place filled with twenty-somethings drinking, smoking and finding their place in the world. With a child, we simply removed ourselves from inappropriate situations and retreated to our lovely home above the trees. Henry was prompt with his replies and a very easy person to work with.

About the Host, Henry
I love islands, beaches, seafood, volleyball, culture fusion, but most of all, i love travelling. I've travelled around the world and found my favourite spot...Fiji!
My family's business is hospitality based so i manage a couple of impossibly beautiful small resorts in the North Eastern Islands. Our style is simple, fun, eco, adventurous, and atmospheric that works in harmony with outer island villages. I'm excited to be involved with airbnb.com, to open the door for intrepid travellers, to an immaculate tropical island paradise.
