About This Listing
We are a young, artsy family who would love to offer you a fabulous DC experience. We work in the spa industry and pride ourselves on providing impeccable hospitality and care. I am one of DC's veteran skin gurus and direct a med spa in Chevy Chase, MD. I work with my husband, which makes me his boss at work and at home! :)
My husband, Jason, is an accomplished photographer, rock musician and massage therapist. He's spent the past eight years documenting ancient religious minorities in Syria and has a book and several audio projects coming out soon. He's played music all over the world and now plays just a few shows a year. The art decorating the condo comes from his past exhibits.
We designed the condo ourselves and wanted to make it as "green" as possible. Nearly everything is recycled, refurbished or repurposed. It was important for us that the condo be environmentally designed for comfort, style and relaxation.
Spread out in our spacious 900 sq. ft. 1 bedroom condo with open concept kitchen, dining and living room. We custom-built the space to be private, fully independent and kid friendly.
The wide entrance stairs, 9 foot ceilings and heated polished-concrete floors truly set the condo apart from most. Modern decor compliments century-old brick walls and reclaimed wood accents.
The condo is on the lower level of our home, also considered a walk out basement since it not underground. We are a cheery family of 4 living above and some occasional noise can be heard (i.e. footsteps from young happy children but not voices, music, etc). The condo is generally very quiet, well insulated and as nearly all our reviewers say "an amazing place to return to after a day in the city".
The kitchen comes stocked with all the basics to satisfy your inner chef. Everything from organic milk to sun-dried Mexican chipotles can be bought with a quick walk to the neighborhood grocery stores. In season, the Mt Pleasant farmers market is a Saturday morning must. Bad coffee can be a bummer, so we supply locally roasted organic coffee, agave nectar, and a French press to get your morning started right.
I've outfitted some of DC's finest spas, so in our bathroom you'll find a custom seated Italian tile shower (perfect after a long day in the city), a beautiful glass-top vanity, soft towels, hair dryer, and travel toothbrushes & toiletries if you forget yours. There's also a full size washer and dryer stocked with hypoallergenic detergent.
Our condo easily sleeps 4 with room for 6. The master bedroom has a super comfy queen-sized bed and large walk-in closet. The living room offers a modern daybed with two plush twin mattresses that convert into a king if desired. Upon request, a comfy queen air mattress is also available. Watch TV and movies or listen to music in both rooms on 43" plasma televisions equipped with Apple TVs that stream HBO, Netflix, Smithsonian TV and PBS.
Mount Pleasant was first built for Washington's elite back in the late 1800's and is now a historic district known for ethnic diversity, elegant architecture and strong ties to the bluegrass and punk movements. Musicians such as Bo Diddley, Jimmy Dean, Nation of Ulysses and Fugazi have all called Mt Pleasant home over the decades.
Just steps away from us are award winning restaurants, grocery stores, and even Target. The lively neighborhoods of Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan, and Dupont are within walking distance and the White House is about three miles down 16th Street. Walk through Rock Creek Park for a tour of the historic Pierce Mill or marvel at the opulent 25 acre Hillwood Estate - home to the most comprehensive collection of Russian imperial art outside of Russia.
Traveling with kids? A playground for little ones is just around the corner or walk down the hill to the National Zoo where admission is free. Sit for story time at the newly renovated Mt Pleasant library and check out original artwork by the artist Aurelius Battaglia who later worked on Disney's Dumbo.
Public transport is excellent in our neighborhood...walk to the metro, hop on a bus, rent a bike through Capital Bike Share or drive around with Zip Car - all just minutes from our door.
If you are driving your own car, we can provide a parking permit with advance notice. Parking in our neighborhood is not difficult. You will be able to find a spot on our block or the next one pretty easily.
Columbia Heights metro station (green line) is only 0.6 miles away - about a 10 minute walk from the condo. Cleveland Park (red line) is less than 5 min ride on the H4 bus which is minutes from our door. For those wanting to hit the White House or National Mall, walk 2 minutes and catch the S4 bus which goes down 16th Street. The White House is about a 10 minute bus ride and the Mall is another ten.

Another great stay at Jenny's! This place is becoming my second home.
I have to start with saying I have 3 kids so my basic requirements are safe neighborhood, cleanliness and netflix. This place satisfied my requirements and then some! My kids and I absolutely loved this place. It was our very first Airbnb and what a treat we had. It was very clean, safe and updated with modern amenities including flatscreens with netflix - one in the living area and the other in the bedroom. Upon arriving, Jason was welcoming and gave us a tour of the apt, extra sheets/towels, coffee press and also provided tips on where to eat. The Smithsonian Zoo is with a 15min walk which made for a great stroll through flowering trees and blooms all over the neighborhood and city. There was a visitor parking pass waiting for us which made this airbnb a plus! I highly recommend booking with Jenny and Jason including a family with 3 kids such as mine. I will contact you again when I'm in DC! Thanks for the hospitality, the excellent relaxing spa feel and the location!
We really enjoyed our stay. It was a perfect size for a family of 4, and so much better than being in a hotel room for the week! It was a great location, less than a 10 minute stroll to a metro stop. There were many restaurant locations within walking distance - our favorite was Beau Thai which had outdoor seating. We were sad we never actually met Jenny, but she was in contact via text/email and we and no issues getting into the apartment on Sunday evening. The parking pass was waiting for us which was perfect, parking was a bit tricky, but we found a spot and once we parked, we only used the car once all week to go outside the city for a hiking trip. We did get to meet Josh a couple times and he was very friendly and helpful. The area felt very safe to us and we didn't worry about walking around after dinner - I even went out a couple early mornings for a run. Overall we enjoyed our stay, would definitely stay there again, and highly recommend it over a small hotel room. Oh, and one other thing, Jenny left organic coffee along with a french press and directions for using it - great to have on our first morning!
We really enjoyed our home away from home! The apartment is thoughtfully updated and decorated and the delicious coffee was an appreciated touch. It was very clean with nice linens/towels. The trundle bed in the living room was very comfortable. The apartment is located in the diverse Mt. Pleasant neighborhood and a short walk to Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Rock Creek Park, the National Zoo etc. It was nice to escape the crowds in town for the cherry blossom festival and experience some of DC's neighborhoods. Bus lines on 16th street and the Columbia Heights metro were a short walk. While we did hear a bit of foot noise from upstairs in the morning, it wasn’t bothersome. I’d recommend staying here and will consider doing so again on a future trip. Thanks Jenny!
This apartment was absolutely the perfect way for our family to enjoy our DC trip. It was exactly as pictured, super clean, comfortable and relaxing. The lighting and artwork really made it feel like a boutique hotel and the kitchen and supplied dishware and cookware added the convenience of being able to cook anything we could dream up. The location was perfect and we found that the bus was the best and more economical way for our family to get downtown and back. We didn't get to meet Jenny but she was super about checking in with us and Jason greeted us and was very helpful in sharing information about the neighborhood and sights we shouldn't miss. Would certainly recommend and plan to stay here whenever we can next get away to see more of our nation's capital! Thanks for being such great hosts!
Had a wonderful stay with Jenny and Jason. The apartment was immaculate and very spacious. Exactly as described in the photos. Close to metro, bus, shops and numerous restaurants. We're really happy about having a parking permit for the stay as well. Both were very helpful with tips for the local area and for sightseeing in the Washington area. Great communication. Highly recommended.
