Description

The Space

We are a young, artsy family who would love to offer you a fabulous DC experience. We work in the spa industry and pride ourselves on providing impeccable hospitality and care. I am one of DC's veteran skin gurus and direct a med spa in Chevy Chase, MD. I work with my husband, which makes me his boss at work and at home! :)

My husband, Jason, is an accomplished photographer, rock musician and massage therapist. He's spent the past eight years documenting ancient religious minorities in Syria and has a book and several audio projects coming out soon. He's played music all over the world and now plays just a few shows a year. The art decorating the condo comes from his past exhibits.

We designed the condo ourselves and wanted to make it as "green" as possible. Nearly everything is recycled, refurbished or repurposed. It was important for us that the condo be environmentally designed for comfort, style and relaxation.

Spread out in our spacious 900 sq. ft. 1 bedroom condo with open concept kitchen, dining and living room. We custom-built the space to be private, fully independent and kid friendly.

The wide entrance stairs, 9 foot ceilings and heated polished-concrete floors truly set the condo apart from most. Modern decor compliments century-old brick walls and reclaimed wood accents.

The condo is on the lower level of our home, also considered a walk out basement since it not underground. We are a cheery family of 4 living above and some occasional noise can be heard (i.e. footsteps from young happy children but not voices, music, etc). The condo is generally very quiet, well insulated and as nearly all our reviewers say "an amazing place to return to after a day in the city".

The kitchen comes stocked with all the basics to satisfy your inner chef. Everything from organic milk to sun-dried Mexican chipotles can be bought with a quick walk to the neighborhood grocery stores. In season, the Mt Pleasant farmers market is a Saturday morning must. Bad coffee can be a bummer, so we supply locally roasted organic coffee, agave nectar, and a French press to get your morning started right.

I've outfitted some of DC's finest spas, so in our bathroom you'll find a custom seated Italian tile shower (perfect after a long day in the city), a beautiful glass-top vanity, soft towels, hair dryer, and travel toothbrushes & toiletries if you forget yours. There's also a full size washer and dryer stocked with hypoallergenic detergent.

Our condo easily sleeps 4 with room for 6. The master bedroom has a super comfy queen-sized bed and large walk-in closet. The living room offers a modern daybed with two plush twin mattresses that convert into a king if desired. Upon request, a comfy queen air mattress is also available. Watch TV and movies or listen to music in both rooms on 43" plasma televisions equipped with Apple TVs that stream HBO, Netflix, Smithsonian TV and PBS.

Mount Pleasant was first built for Washington's elite back in the late 1800's and is now a historic district known for ethnic diversity, elegant architecture and strong ties to the bluegrass and punk movements. Musicians such as Bo Diddley, Jimmy Dean, Nation of Ulysses and Fugazi have all called Mt Pleasant home over the decades.

Just steps away from us are award winning restaurants, grocery stores, and even Target. The lively neighborhoods of Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan, and Dupont are within walking distance and the White House is about three miles down 16th Street. Walk through Rock Creek Park for a tour of the historic Pierce Mill or marvel at the opulent 25 acre Hillwood Estate - home to the most comprehensive collection of Russian imperial art outside of Russia.

Traveling with kids? A playground for little ones is just around the corner or walk down the hill to the National Zoo where admission is free. Sit for story time at the newly renovated Mt Pleasant library and check out original artwork by the artist Aurelius Battaglia who later worked on Disney's Dumbo.

Public transport is excellent in our neighborhood...walk to the metro, hop on a bus, rent a bike through Capital Bike Share or drive around with Zip Car - all just minutes from our door.

If you are driving your own car, we can provide a parking permit with advance notice. Parking in our neighborhood is not difficult. You will be able to find a spot on our block or the next one pretty easily.

Columbia Heights metro station (green line) is only 0.6 miles away - about a 10 minute walk from the condo. Cleveland Park (red line) is less than 5 min ride on the H4 bus which is minutes from our door. For those wanting to hit the White House or National Mall, walk 2 minutes and catch the S4 bus which goes down 16th Street. The White House is about a 10 minute bus ride and the Mall is another ten.
