We are a young, artsy family who would love to offer you a fabulous DC experience. We work in the spa industry and pride ourselves on providing impeccable hospitality and care. I am one of DC's veteran skin gurus and direct a med spa in Chevy Chase, MD. I work with my husband, which makes me his boss at work and at home! :)
My husband, Jason, is an accomplished photographer, rock musician and massage therapist. He's spent the past eight years documenting ancient religious minorities in Syria and has a book and several audio projects coming out soon. He's played music all over the world and now plays just a few shows a year. The art decorating the condo comes from his past exhibits.
We designed the condo ourselves and wanted to make it as "green" as possible. Nearly everything is recycled, refurbished or repurposed. It was important for us that the condo be environmentally designed for comfort, style and relaxation.
Spread out in our spacious 900 sq. ft. 1 bedroom condo with open concept kitchen, dining and living room. We custom-built the space to be private, fully independent and kid friendly.
The wide entrance stairs, 9 foot ceilings and heated polished-concrete floors truly set the condo apart from most. Modern decor compliments century-old brick walls and reclaimed wood accents.
The condo is on the lower level of our home, also considered a walk out basement since it not underground. We are a cheery family of 4 living above and some occasional noise can be heard (i.e. footsteps from young happy children but not voices, music, etc). The condo is generally very quiet, well insulated and as nearly all our reviewers say "an amazing place to return to after a day in the city".
The kitchen comes stocked with all the basics to satisfy your inner chef. Everything from organic milk to sun-dried Mexican chipotles can be bought with a quick walk to the neighborhood grocery stores. In season, the Mt Pleasant farmers market is a Saturday morning must. Bad coffee can be a bummer, so we supply locally roasted organic coffee, agave nectar, and a French press to get your morning started right.
I've outfitted some of DC's finest spas, so in our bathroom you'll find a custom seated Italian tile shower (perfect after a long day in the city), a beautiful glass-top vanity, soft towels, hair dryer, and travel toothbrushes & toiletries if you forget yours. There's also a full size washer and dryer stocked with hypoallergenic detergent.
Our condo easily sleeps 4 with room for 6. The master bedroom has a super comfy queen-sized bed and large walk-in closet. The living room offers a modern daybed with two plush twin mattresses that convert into a king if desired. Upon request, a comfy queen air mattress is also available. Watch TV and movies or listen to music in both rooms on 43" plasma televisions equipped with Apple TVs that stream HBO, Netflix, Smithsonian TV and PBS.
Mount Pleasant was first built for Washington's elite back in the late 1800's and is now a historic district known for ethnic diversity, elegant architecture and strong ties to the bluegrass and punk movements. Musicians such as Bo Diddley, Jimmy Dean, Nation of Ulysses and Fugazi have all called Mt Pleasant home over the decades.
Just steps away from us are award winning restaurants, grocery stores, and even Target. The lively neighborhoods of Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan, and Dupont are within walking distance and the White House is about three miles down 16th Street. Walk through Rock Creek Park for a tour of the historic Pierce Mill or marvel at the opulent 25 acre Hillwood Estate - home to the most comprehensive collection of Russian imperial art outside of Russia.
Traveling with kids? A playground for little ones is just around the corner or walk down the hill to the National Zoo where admission is free. Sit for story time at the newly renovated Mt Pleasant library and check out original artwork by the artist Aurelius Battaglia who later worked on Disney's Dumbo.
Public transport is excellent in our neighborhood...walk to the metro, hop on a bus, rent a bike through Capital Bike Share or drive around with Zip Car - all just minutes from our door.
If you are driving your own car, we can provide a parking permit with advance notice. Parking in our neighborhood is not difficult. You will be able to find a spot on our block or the next one pretty easily.
Columbia Heights metro station (green line) is only 0.6 miles away - about a 10 minute walk from the condo. Cleveland Park (red line) is less than 5 min ride on the H4 bus which is minutes from our door. For those wanting to hit the White House or National Mall, walk 2 minutes and catch the S4 bus which goes down 16th Street. The White House is about a 10 minute bus ride and the Mall is another ten.

Our condo was built with you in mind so please take amazing care of it! It is meticulously and professionally cleaned before and after each guest.
We built a space that respected the environment by reusing, repurposing and recycling as much as possible. Please be mindful of your own carbon print!
-Turn off lights and air conditioning units when you are out as well as at checkout. Please turn the thermostat back to 70 degrees at checkout if you've cranked the heat :) Thank you!
Sorry no heavy partying, smoking or pets.
**Please be sure to return the parking permit when you leave. We must charge a $100 fee if it is not returned or becomes lost.
Both Jason & Jenny were most hospitable. Their accom. was as described. Very cozy & comfortable. Very close to shops & metro.
I would recommend staying there anytime.
Had a wonderful stay with Jenny and Jason. The apartment was immaculate and very spacious. Exactly as described in the photos. Close to metro, bus, shops and numerous restaurants. We're really happy about having a parking permit for the stay as well. Both were very helpful with tips for the local area and for sightseeing in the Washington area. Great communication. Highly recommended.
Wow! This was our first adventure with airbnb, and if this home is any indication of the quality we can expect, we are hooked for life! Jenny was incredibly responsive to us prior to our arrival. Her basement apartment was perfect for my wife, myself, and our two teenage kids. Beautifully decorated and clean, it had plenty of room to spread out. We couldn't have been happier! The location was about a ten minute walk from the Columbia Heights metro station and we were able to get to the mall relatively quickly. Noise was a non-factor for us. Seriously, didn't hear a thing. Perfect!
We had a very pleasant stay in Jason and Jenny's apartment. Despite a big snowstorm and very cold weather, they did everything necessary for us to be comfortable and safe on the sidewalk and steps to the apartment. The location is convenient to the Mount Pleasant neighborhood, the Columbia Heights Metro, and the Zoo, and feels safe and friendly. We would definitely stay there on our next visit to DC.
Jenny was very friendly and helpful, apartment is in a nice neighborhood and well-kept, including a kitchen area, small library (helpful books on DC) and an Apple TV. Great time, would definitely recommend.
We have stayed in Jenny's apartment for 3 days. She is living in the upstairs with her family. This house is a great basement apartment. Warm, beautifully decorated, comfortable. Jenny was a nice and easy going person and responsive. The walking distance to metro is 10 minutes. The metro is 10 more minutes away the city centre. Thank you Jenny.
Jenny and Jason have a lovely apartment, and it met our every need. The pictures on the website are accurate, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen more than adequately equipped, and the coffee was wonderful. Our impression was of well-thought-out hospitality. The communications we had with them were prompt and friendly and addressed whatever concerns we had, which were few. Jason met us when we arrived, and Jenny periodically checked in to see that all was well. We appreciated having a separate entrance benefitting our privacy and theirs. The location is great: a pretty neighborhood with nearby convenience stores, and restaurants not too far away. We always felt safe walking. We would definitely like to stay here again, and would even plan our travel dates around the apartment's availability, if possible. The place is a gem, and we loved it.
We are a young, artsy family who know the value of a large space that is beautiful, comfortable, luxurious and private. We work in the spa industry so we pride ourselves on impeccable quality and excellent customer service. My husband Jason is an accomplished photographer, rock musician and massage therapist. He is currently writing a book on his travels to Syria which features his photography and insight to its culture.
