The Space

This Georgian period room features in this great family 3 bedroom, 1.5 shared family bathroom, 2.5 storey house with a refurbished yoga studio below in the basement space. Please note that guests are now given the Master bedroom with a gorgeous comfortable King size wood sleigh-bed and period feature fireplace.

We are a Frenchman and American lady with 2 children living in Dublin for 15 years and are happy to be your hosts. Our family enjoys having friendly guests about from all over the world, and it helps us cover the high utility bills in year round heating a big, high-ceiling early 19th century historic house within the cool climate of Dublin.

Guests are welcome to use our cozy family kitchen, eat homemade crepes with us on Sunday mornings, avail of fresh bathroom towels and do a load of wash if staying past a week. Also free wi-fi connection is available.

We live in a great neighbourhood, filled with delightful cafes, small markets, charity shops, pubs/live music, parks, and within a 10 minute walk to the city centre (including Grafton Street, Stephen's Green, the National Concert Hall, and St. Patrick's Cathedral). Public transport is readily available with bus lines just 2 mins away, the LUAS train 3 blocks from us, and
DublinBikes for rent on our street. Everything you could want to experience in Dublin is within easy access!

A little bit about Dublin Itself: Dublin meaning "town of the hurdled ford", is the capital and most populous city of Ireland. The English name for the city is derived from the Irish name Dubhlinn, meaning "black pool". Dublin is situated near the midpoint of Ireland's east coast, at the mouth of the River Liffey, and at the centre of the Dublin Region.

Dublin has many landmarks and monuments dating back hundreds of years. One of the oldest is Dublin Castle, which was first founded as a major defensive work on the orders of King John of England in 1204, shortly after the Norman invasion of Ireland in 1169, when it was commanded that a castle be built with strong walls and good ditches for the defence of the city, the administration of justice, and the protection of the King’s treasure.[23] Largely complete by 1230, the castle was of typical Norman courtyard design, with a central square without a keep, bounded on all sides by tall defensive walls and protected at each corner by a circular tower. Sited to the south-east of Norman Dublin, the castle formed one corner of the outer perimeter of the city, using the River Poddle as a natural means of defence.

The Molly Malone statue near Grafton Street.
One of Dublin's newest monuments is the Spire of Dublin, or officially titled "Monument of Light".[24] It is a 121.2 metres (398 ft) conical spire made of stainless steel and is located on O'Connell Street. It replaces Nelson's Pillar and is intended to mark Dublin's place in the 21st century. The spire was designed by Ian Ritchie Architects,[25] who sought an "Elegant and dynamic simplicity bridging art and technology". During the day it maintains its steel look, but at dusk the monument appears to merge into the sky. The base of the monument is lit and the top is illuminated to provide a beacon in the night sky across the city.
Many people visit Trinity College, Dublin to see the Book of Kells in the library there. The Book of Kells is an illustrated manuscript created by Irish monks circa. 800 AD. The Ha'penny Bridge; an old iron footbridge over the River Liffey is one of the most photographed sights in Dublin and is considered to be one of Dublin's most iconic landmarks.[26]
Other popular landmarks and monuments include the Mansion House, the Anna Livia monument, the Molly Malone statue, Christ Church Cathedral, St Patrick's Cathedral, Saint Francis Xavier Church on Upper Gardiner Street near Mountjoy Square, The Custom House, and Áras an Uachtaráin. The Poolbeg Towers are also iconic features of Dublin and are visible in many spots around the city.

Guest Access

Guests can use anything in the kitchen (including bulk foods and spices); hair blower (in guest room); iron; family shampoos or toothpaste; towels; videos.

Interaction with Guests

We are happy to chat with guests when encountered! Guests are considered a part of the family when about, so don't be surprised if we are chatting to you when we are still in our bathrobes! :)

The Neighborhood

Our Portobello neighbourhood is an eternally up and coming area with cool cafes, pubs, restaurants and music venues. It is a relatively safe and quiet, well-kept residential area within the hub of the city centre with loads of sites and happenings within easy reach. It is ethnically and economically diverse making for real and dynamic city living. We are very happy here!

Getting around

Yes, easy public bus access and LUAS line train stop within one block.

Other Things to Note

Please note our shower has an anti-scalding mechanism which never permits it to get super hot and sometimes cuts out for a minute to regulate the temperature. If you prefer the super hot, go for our clawfoot bath with shower nozzle which will always deliver 100% hot water for your satisfaction. Many European homes only have the bath with shower nozzle anyway. If that is not optimal for you, do consider a different Airbnb host.

  • Perfect location – a 10-minute walk to city center -- in a beautiful Georgian home in a great (and real) neighborhood. Even prior to arrival Danielle was helpful with all of our Ireland questions and Francois greeted us with delicious crepes and conversation. Nice bedroom (and king-size bed) with wc / shower a few steps away. It was also nice to talk with an ex-pat about Dublin and Ireland. Lovely people, lovely place. Highly recommended.

  • My sister and I could not have asked for a better place to stay in Dublin. Danielle and her family were very welcoming and kind. They have a beautiful, cozy home and the room was spacious and comfortable. They had a lot of suggestions for things to do in and around Dublin which was very helpful as this was my first time visiting the city. The neighborhood was very nice with a lot of cafés and shops. It was walking distance to pretty much everywhere we wanted to go. Danielle's home was an ideal place to stay and i would definitely love to stay there again the next time I find myself visiting Dublin. Thank you so much, Danielle and family!

  • I had a wonderful stay with Danielle and Francois. They are incredibly warm and interesting people and immediately made me feel welcome in their home. In fact, when I first arrived, Francois greeted me with a nice cup of tea, which was very much appreciated after my long flight. Danielle and Francois were also very helpful with off the beaten path recommendations, like the amazing Dalkey-Killiney walk that offers a 360-view of the sea, Dublin and surrounding areas. They even kindly gave me a ride to the starting point! A few other highlights -- Francois' crepes, the lovely house architecture, stimulating conversations, and a great (and easily accessible) neighborhood filled with awesome restaurants, a pub and public trans. I would definitely recommend staying here. Thanks Danielle and Francois!

  • Danielle and Francois were wonderful hosts. They were very welcoming and their home was nice and comfortable. It's nice to be within walking distance to the centre, food, shops, parks...My sister and I especially enjoyed Francois' fantastic crepes. With our busy schedule we couldn't have them in the morning, so they adjusted to our schedule to make sure we wouldn't miss out on the crepes (glad we didn't because they were delicious! ). The room was spacious, clean, and the bed very comfortable. We enjoyed swapping stories and just talking, and their daughter Collette is very cute! Thank you! :)

  • Danielle is incredibly generous, warm, easy to get along with and has recommendations for whatever you need. (Definitely ask her about the little hiking trip, amazing views!)
The house is beautiful, very clean and centrally located, only a 10-minute walk to the absolute centre, but I prefer Camden Street which is right around the corner. The room is warm and spacious with a huge bed that is almost like a waterbed, very comfortable. I didn’t have any trouble with the hot water, everything worked just fine.
François made his famous crêpes and they were delicious! Luckily there were even some left so I could have some more the next morning, perfect!
I would recommend a stay with this happy little family any time.

  • Danielle and her husband were extremely friendly, attentive and their attention to detail was very appreciated. Danielle set out breakfast for us every morning, Francois made us crepes on Sunday, and Danielle even gave me a cereal that I really liked that I can't find back home to take with me!

Very clean house, private room, nice amenities, comfortable bed, quiet, nothing lacking, even a big claw-footed tub if you'd like to take a bath!

A very nice stay overall with good conversation and wonderfully located in a great neighborhood.
