The Space

This studio size backyard casita is for longer term stays of 30 days or more.

It is located in central east Austin in a wonderfully eclectic neighborhood. When you stay here, you can park and walk to the UT campus, Disch Falk Baseball Field, Memorial Football Stadium and the Performing Arts Center.

This simply furnished studio is completely separate from the main front home. It is all inclusive ONE room bedroom/kitchen/dining area with a separate bathroom. It has high vaulted ceilings. The kitchen area offers apartment-sized gas stove and refrigerator. No TV, but there is usually a bottle of wine or a couple of beers in the refrigerator to welcome our guests.

It will accommodate 1adult (or a cozy couple) comfortably in a DOUBLE bed. The following amenities are also included: 100% cotton sheets, A/C, heater, humidifier, WIFI, coffee maker, and tiled bathroom with shower and small yard/ patio area out the back door.

Simple, comfortable and neighborly. You may meet up with roaming hens in the backyard (feel free to claim eggs for your breakfast) and a black lab named Luna who belongs to Jim and Cathy, the residents in the front house. Luna is an indoor dog in their front house at night.
I live directly across the street.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • The Casita is not fancy, but it's cozy and comfortable. Jim was a terrific host. He even hooked me up with some homeopathic meds when I was under the weather. All in all I think it's a terrific solution for anyone with business on or around campus.

  • Jo Ann did an excellent job in helping us feel comfortable as our arrival date approached. She made sure we had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and the Casita was clean and charming. We appreciated the location near University of Texas and downtown. Lots of small, local coffee shops and restaurants are nearby. Overall, a good value.

  • I stayed at the Backyard Casita for 5 days while I attended a seminar at UT. The location was perfect - an easy walk (less than 3 minutes) to some very good restaurants and to the school as well. I didn't actually make the walk over to the school because it was sub-20, with a wind chill of 9 degrees on the first few days and rainy the next. The good news is that despite the low temps, the Casita remained pretty cozy.

The Casita was well stocked with food and drink that JoAnn encouraged me to use as much as I wanted. There was literally enough food that I could have gone the week just on what was in the cupboard and fridge (but where's the fun in that).

Other highlights: the WiFi signal was strong and the connection fast; there was ample, easy parking on the street at all times; plenty of room for my stuff; water was hot and stayed that way forever; neighborhood is convenient to 35 but I found it very quiet and peaceful; and, the bed was super comfy.

JoAnn was great to deal with - available and checked on me from time to time. I could not have had a better experience for my first Airbnb stay and I will definitely be back on future trips to Austin.

  • I recently had the pleasure of staying in Jim's Backyard Casita for 3 nights. It was a comfy home away from home. Though the weather was nippy I was completely cozy. My hosts made sure I was warm enough when the temp dropped into the 20s! I slept very well in the comfy bed, and the neighborhood is quiet and friendly. The adorable kitchen area came complete with everything I needed to make a few meals. A small organic "grocery" store was a short walk away for eggs, quail sausage and other yummy provisions. Also within easy walking distance were several restaurants/estabilishments including Southern cooking, Italian, Mexican and (website hidden) Ann is a wonderful host who went out of her way to ensure my comfort and convenience. Jim who is in the front house is also attentive and accommodating. I truly felt welcomed by them both. When I come back to Austin this is where I plan to stay.
