The Space

The house is in a very quiet and peaceful location. With the two bedrooms there is space for 4 people. There is great emphasis on nice organic fresh food; a lot of it is produced on the farm or fairly traded.

Guest Access

The guests have access to the whole house; there is a kitchen where tea or coffee can be prepared. There is a living room area and a tv/computer room with a woodburning stove. Free wifi is available is in the whole house and even outside in the garden. There is one bathroom that is shared and a separate toilet downstairs.

Interaction with Guests

A really nice generous breakfast is served in the morning and included in the price. In the evening you can join the 3 course family meal for 10 Euros per person.(Please let us know by midday). Of course you can stay in the house the whole day (the weather is sometimes a bit unpredictable) or venture outside to discover many beautiful places nearby. There are a lot of maps available and any amount of tips and suggestions from Josef! In the evening you can make use of all the rooms and we might even share a glass of wine or a cup of tea with you!

  • It was my first time using airbnb & I was very lucky to have Josef as my first host. He is a pure gentleman. Very thorough (as you'd expect from a Swiss man), kind, genuinely interested and open in his welcome & communication. His farm is situated in a lovely location, in a fabulous house that Josef and his wife renovated. If you are lucky, you may encounter Tony Soprano the dog who is just another reason to love Josef's farm. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer.

  • Had an excellent stay at Josef and Helga! If you're looking for some peace and quiet this is the place to be. Located on driving distance from Gort (10 min drive) the Burren and the cliffs of Moher, but still in the most peaceful area. Josef and Helga are great hosts. Had diner with them on my first night with some lovely conversation, homemade cake and a glass of scotch :)
Josef makes an excellent breakfast that'll give you plenty of fuel to do some hiking, but if you just want to relax and hang out at their place then that's also fine with them. Highly recommended and would definitely stay here again!

  • We stayed at Josef's cabin for one night, but wish we had stayed for a week or so. It was like staying at your uncle and aunt's place. Josef and his wife made us feel like a part of family from the moment we shook hands upon the arrival. Josef and his wife are the kindest, genuinely nicest people you will ever meet. The full Irish breakfast was incredible. It was not only delicious but the presentation itself was right out of a magazine. The cottage was, as described in the title, peaceful and organic with a small fireplace to keep you warm at night. The garden around the house and cows in the field reminded me of my careless childhood, during my visits to my grandma's village in Central Europe. Josef was full of information about local history, sights and other general topics about economy, politics etc., and we could've talked for hours. We really regret staying there only for one night. There is a friendly cat and a dog on the premises, which will quickly become your friends. There are some attractions in Gort, the closest town, worth a visit, i.e. the lovely park with an old tree on which several famous Irish writers had signed their names, and if you're driving you're not far from the cliffs of Moher. We fell in love with Ireland and hope to be back at some point in the near future and will definitely love to stay with Josef and his wife, and hop in the sauna, which is being built as we speak. I highly, highly recommend Josef's cabin to anyone looking for a stay filled with peace, serenity and natural beauty, hosted by a couple that will make you feel right at home.

  • Me and my friend went to Josef's house in april and it was the best holidays ever ! where to begin ?… First, and this something really important, the breakfast is AMAZING ! The house is wonderful, really cosy and there is everything for cooking and everything you need for everyday life. The surroundings are beautiful, and peaceful. It is a really perfect place to relax and enjoy the life.
Still, if you want to see the city, it is not hard to get there.
Josef and his wife Helga were one of the nicest people we had ever met. They are always there for you, and they are really welcoming and warm.
This place is as good for teenagers like us as for adults.

Thank you again ! We would definitely come back!

  • Peaceful organic farmhouse cabin was the title and this is just what it was and more. Josef was there to welcome me when I arrived in this hidden and rare gem in the west of Ireland. From the moment I arrived till I left the next afternoon I felt so looked after. Helga offered (email hidden) tea when we met and made me feel so welcome and at home. I decided to have dinner with Josef and Helga later that evening. I am a vegetarian and semi-vegan and this was not a problem. These days you do not get much for 10 euros anywhere in the world. That evening I had a 3 course home made meal made with fresh ingredients with some from their own extensive vegetable garden. There was also wine and good relaxed conversation. It was a great night. I stayed in the wooden cabin which was like a cocoon away from the world. It was cosy, clean and really warm with the fire already going when I arrived. I slept so well. The cabin has everything you need and along with a cooking area for those like myself who generally like to make their own food. I was also free to use the main house where there was internet, TV, DVD's and books. I had a really great time here. Both Josef and Helga gave you space and if you felt like having a chat with them they were happy to do that also. I had a tasty breakfast on the sunday morning. The night before Josef asked what I would like which was great as I am particular about my food. Josef had made his special sunday morning bread and had provided all that I had requested including cheeses, locally sourced honey, fruits, yoghurts and a tasty muesli. The bread was excellent. The location has a special feel about it and the surrounding area is beautiful. There is a lovely walk you can take at the back of the house and their kind dog Tony will be happy to accompany you. To sum up, a 5 star experience for people who appreciate things like good quality food, thoughtful people, a peaceful environment and some quiet time in nature thats not far from the world. I can't say enough good things. What I will say is if you get the opportunity go and experience it for yourself. Thank you Josef and Helga.

  • Josef and Helga provided the best possible hospitality. They opened up not just their home but their hearts to us. The service was second to none, all dietary requirements catered for, excellent cleanliness, heating and facilities. A wonderful place for retreats for the creative or spiritually minded. Thank you for the warm chats in the evening and the great Swiss coffee in the mornings!

25 years ago my wife and myself emigrated from Switzerland to Ireland. At present I'm looking after a small organic farm with 2 suckler cows with calves and some hens and turkeys. We also have an extensive garden with a wide variety of vegetables and fruits. When our two children decided to leave the nest, we thought we like to share our house with other people who are interested in nature, peace, quietness and really good food. We're always interested to learn to know new people, their thoughts, ideas and dreams.
