The space
Free coffee/tea and toast. Our guest home is built on top of Mount Salem, so there’s always a cool breeze and views from our roof deck and verandas, overlooking Montego Bay, the ocean, and mountains. Reggae music is usually wafting through the air from the nearby corner of indoor markets, takeout food, and other local neighborhood services. It’s just a short drive from the airport, the “hip strip” for dancing, shopping, and beaches, the straw market for local crafts, carvings and clothing, the experience of downtown and suburban health food store, pharmacies, bookstores, and large supermarkets.
P.S. Kalonji - healthy, healing, energizing; Tallawah – strong, sturdy, fearless

Guest access
You can enjoy the living room, kitchen, and verandas on your floor. The two suites, one on each floor have separate entrances but can be joined together for larger groups. All are welcome to the roof deck, 2nd fl verandas, and roof deck. Route taxis ($.80 US to shopping), grocery stores, markets, ice cream and take-out food are a block down the street. MENU:

In (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , when I was 33, I envisioned I was to have a guest house in Jamaica for retirement. I came looking in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and met Jah B; in 15 minutes we knew we were to be together. We married in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and raised two awesome sons in Philadelphia. Then he, my King, with a contractor friend, built this 'Palace' in a safe, comfortable neighborhood. I was raised on a farm in Kansas, became Deputy Director of Mental Health in Philadelphia, then co-founder and director of a university-based multicultural training and research institute (Temple then Drexel). Now, I am happy as a writer with FunTimes Magazine celebrating the African and Caribbean Diaspora, which I can do from our veranda. (I was the Editor for five years.) In August (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , we published a memoir about our 25-year cross-cultural journey called "Loving To Be WE...Receiving Mountains as Stepping Stones to Cross the Cultural Divide Between Jamaica and the USA/Babylon," which reads like a fantasy but is real as life gets! Since helping my body rebalance and overcome a grim Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis in just three months by April (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) by changing my lifestyle. I became a certified Holistic Cancer Education Counselor and offer consultation while continuing my learning from others. With the help from prior guests we now have three websites: Topaz Dream Palace (to book lodging), Loving To Be WE (our memoir), and Live-itUp (for ebook), and four (Hidden by Airbnb) pages: Alkalife Jamaica (re healthy rebalancing your body retreats and organic farm visits), Loving To Be We, Topaz Dream Palace, and Cheri Avery Black. We enjoy meeting people and helping them experience the friendly people, culture, and beauty of Jamaica while learning about the politics and history. I've gained so much from traveling to 44 states and 24 countries and now from engaging with people from around the world who come to stay at our Topaz Dream Palace. I am blessed to have an amazing, loving husband, Jah B, who helps make it possible for me to live my dream life! You’ll find that I'm the 'Chief of Chat (Communication), Computer, and Creativity. Jah B is the quiet one, a wise and deep reasoner, and 'Chief of Chauffeuring, Cuisine, Cultivation, and Cleaning', an excellent farmer growing and supplying more and more of our organic produce. (He had a dream, as well, about a woman from a'foreign coming to uplift his family...fortunately it was me!) We look forward to meeting you and hearing your stories! Do 'soon come'. One love, Cheri and Jah B

During your stay
We enjoy interacting with our guests, and are also fine with giving you your own separate space and quiet . . . whatever you desire. We are here to help you have the best vacation possible. We’ve had a number of guests who all gave us excellent reviews before we listed. Toney is an excellent chef for meals and juices prepared with fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, fish and chicken from the nearby farmers’ market. If you wish, he’ll guide you through the market, and provide cooking lessons. He’s a great ‘selector’ of CD love songs, soul and reggae music. Cheri, a certified health education coach, enjoys sharing her miracle recovery from cancer using natural healing methods. We both love to introduce our guests to welcoming family and friends, the beautiful beaches and countryside, cultural history, folktales, and the variety of attractions. Montego Bay is the second largest city in Jamaica and preferred destination for most tourists. It's an hour from Negril, two to Ocho Rios. We'll pick you up and take you back to the airport.

Cheri met Toney in 1994 when she came to Jamaica to find a guest house she had ‘dreamed’ she was to have in retirement. Instead, she met Toney; they instantly fell in love and were married in 1996, raising two sons in Philadelphia. In 2006, the time was right for Toney, with a contractor friend and family expertise, to build our guest-house. The name combines our November birthstones—topaz, plus my dream, plus it looks like a palace, doesn’t it! Be ready to be treated like the Queens and Kings you are!
