Description

The space

This 100-year old boat is my cosy HOME and NICE & RELAXED people are welcome to stay here. The ship is thouroughly cleaned after each visit. If you are the kind of person who makes a fuss about petty details: dont bother! Please book a boring hotel.

My 25-meter long ship used to be a freight-carrier but is now converted into a nice modern house. The 'house' of the old skipper is still there, with the antique paneling and the cupboard bed; very cosy! In the stern of the ship is another bedroom with a double bed. In the former freight-room a spacious living-room is now built, a bathroom with bath, a kitchen. In the living is another possibility for two people to sleep; the couch is big enouygh for 2 extra guests to sleep on. The house is heated by means of a central heating system (hot air) and a gas stove; it's always comfortable. My ship is situated in the middle of Groningen, two minutes on foot from the lively city center, the main station and the famous Groninger Museum. But the road at which my ship is moored is a very quiet street with beautiful chestnut trees and stately houses. Pets are welcome and therefore I cannot guarantee a completely allergy-free place to people who are allergic to cats or dogs.

Guest access

The boat is completely yours during your stay! (The steering cabin is for private use.) The ship has 1 (double) super cosy cupboard bed in the back of the ship, one double bed in a cosy bedroom in the stern of the ship and if you are with a company of more than 4; there is a very big couch in the livingroom on which to extra guests could sleep. This couch is new, I didn't take a picture of it yet...

Interaction with guests

We'll meet when you arrive, and maybe later on if you would like to have some advice, or a small city tour! But as I live elsewhere, I will not be around every day, but can easily be reached by mobile phone or email!

The neighborhood

My neighborhood is quiet but the city-center is within a 3 minutes walk! I love to quietly sit on the deck of my ship and look at the ships passing at one side, the people walking their dogs in the small park next to my boat. The houses on the other side of the street are occupied by the privileged; the mayor of the city of Groningen lives here for instance...:)

Getting around

Train and bus station is within a 3 minutes walk!

Other things to note

You can park your car in the parking garage 100 metres from my ship, or I'll guide you to a nearby place in the city where parking is free. Parking near the boat is possible but expensive; 2 euro's per hour. So maybe you can use it to unload your luggage and then move to cheaper alternative...

House Rules
No parties or events
Check in is anytime after 3PM

Just treat my house as you would treat yours...! If you are a nice relaxed guy/girl looking for a special and romantic place to stay; this is the place for you. You're more than welcome to enjoy the charms and the warmth of my sweet cosy ship.
BUT! If you are going to be fussy about small things, like the boat is making noises (yes ... it is! it's a floating thing on water! It sometimes bumps against the shore!) Or, like some people who visited my house; you want to spend your time crawling under the cupboards and the couch to check whether it is really really clean there; DON'T BOTHER! PLEASE BOOK A HOTEL FOR TWICE THE MONEY! It is a HOME, my home, your home if you like; not a HOTEL.
I really can't be bothered with complaints concerning one not completely spotless wineglass or a pillow that was a bit too soft... I do my best to give you a great place to stay, MY private home, and I really give an effort to deliver it as clean and comfy as possible! Clean sheets, towels, pots and pans, cutlery, the works! So if you are going to look for small things, maybe just to get a discount afterwards... please feel welcome to find another place..!

Be nice to my neighbor Han, who lives at the other boat at this side of the canal, and give some strokes to Eddy the red cat who belongs to people on the other side of the street, but who likes to lie in the sun on the roof of my ship...:))

Ship nearby the City-center but calm. We've been here with my parents (81, 80) and also they loved to stay here!

Rob's barge is more or less as described. A wonderful place to spend some time if somewhere unconventional is desired. There was confusion between Rob and Onno, his friend who was due to be there to greet us, regarding our expected time of arrival, which we bore the brunt of on the telephone. Rob rapidly corrected this and his friend was there to greet us and show us round. Communication with Rob was excellent thereafter. The living and dining areas are very spacious and warm allowing our family of four adults more than enough room for a comfy, family time. The only negatives for us personally, were the matresses which my husband and I found lumpy and so difficult to sleep on, but we do both have back problems. Also due to my very poor vision I tended to both trip and bump my head when entering the bedrooms where there are low ceilings and steps. It's also poorly lit in those area too. Something to bear in mind for those with health problems. All in all though, a great place in a gorgeous city, situated very close to the city centre and even closer to the railway station. Lots of great eating places around too! Great value.

Rob himself was not available because he had to work, but a friend of him let us in and showed us everything on the boat. He could even speak German, which was convenient for my parents. The houseboat is perfectly located, clean, comfortable and extraordinary! Definitely recommendable!

This is a great place to stay, the boat is very spacious and at the same time cosy and comfortable. The location is very handy, and I was even able to check in after midnight! I recommend it for those looking for a more unique experience.

Rob's boat is fantastic. While it may not be for everyone, Rob's description is very accurate. This boat is cosy and homey and I'd highly recommend it for travellers who are looking for a place with character. With the city centre an easy walk away, it is very accessible. We slept in the back of the boat with the original living room and found it to be the more comfortable bed. If you're not used to it, it may take a day or two to get your sea legs if the weather is choppy. We had some issues with the wifi and Rob was quick to communicate with us. All in all, a great stay in a city that is incredibly beautiful and friendly.

Our stay was fantastic! The boat is very romantic, and there are many interesting items from the 17th and 18th century in the boat. Also the cook's cabin is fantastic! It is also incredibly quiet on the boat considering there is a road right next to it. The only minus was the fact the wifi was not working. Thank you very much for letting us stay!

Easy going, friendly . Seen a lot, done even more! Like to meet new people, make them feel at home in my beautiful ship, it's another way to enjoy life, I am convinced that being nice reflects positivity into the world! :)
I like to travel myself, via airbnb because you get to know the real life of people; how they live, where they do their shopping, who their neighbors are...
