Great location

Guests who stayed here in the past year loved the location.
"Stable Cottage" is an old traditional style, converted stone barn, near our historic old farmhouse. It retains many original features such as the original old natural slated roof, old beams, pine boarded floors, exposed original stone walls etc. etc.. It is very quiet and peaceful, on a small working tillage farm. Originally, it was the stable where the horses were sheltered and fed for the winter months while the wheat, feed oats etc was stored on the loft overhead.

The space
"Stable Cottage", has been converted sympathetically, using mostly original and some locally sourced, recycled, materials. The roof timbers, for example, were sawn from old pine trees grown nearby, on the farm. Also the kitchen units and stairs were handmade by a local craftsman, from an old storm felled ash tree. Some sections of the old original stone walls are still exposed inside, in the kitchen/ living and bedroom areas. The cottage has all modern conveniences (ie Strong Wifi, Power Shower, washer, drier, full size cooker, dishwasher, microwave, satellite HD TV, central heating using a Carbon neutral, Big Bale, Straw Burner (operated by the owner) with a backup oil fired boiler. There is also a cosy open fire ( with logs, kindling etc. supplied ) for the long winter nights.
The cottage is situated in the grounds of our historic 300 year old farmhouse, " Somers Fort" ( where we live ) from which Helen's great grand parents were famously evicted, during the Irish Land War in August 1888. Because of the resistance and fortifications employed here at the time, there were no further evictions in the locality. The family, of course, soon returned, bought the farm back again and are still here today! We are in fact, the fourth generation of our family to farm this land continuously.

Guest access
Guests have full access to the entire cottage, patio, garden, parking and yard areas. Nearby fields can be accessed for walking, pets, etc..

Other things to note
We have one small, friendly, ( most inappropriately named ) dog, Gucie and a sometimes friendly, farm cat (Oz), so guests pets are welcome.

Good FIBRE broadband available.

My work: Nurse and farmer.
I am a semi-retired operating theatre nurse and arable farmer. I like gardening, shopping, foreign travel, music, interior design and chat. I, (and my husband) am most passionate about the restoration of old stone houses (and the conversion of old disused farm buildings to top quality residential use).
