About this listing
Perfectly located between Santiago and San Sebastian, this home is a stone's throw from activities in the city, and just a block down from the bus station, where you'd start your trips to the Yucatan attractions like the ruins and cenotes, and to other cities.
This home brings togther a perfect balance of the old with the new. Polished and stained concrete, tasteful pasta tile insets, granite counter tops, original wooden doors, exposed beamed ceilings in the original rooms, all meld together to form a house which lives like the 21st century but shows full respect for the history of the home and the city.
The home has a small footprint but lives big with its comfortably large two bedrooms, roomy two bathrooms and access to outdoor spaces from every room.
The open concept living/dining/kitchen area feels even larger because of the two outdoor patios on either side.
The kitchen comes fully equipped with top of the line appliances. It also includes all the dishes, cutlery and knick knacks you will need during your entire stay. There are also full laundry services.
This use of indoor/outdoor space is not only beautiful but very necessary for its welcome light and airflow.
The deep covered patio between the living area and the pool serves to greatly expand the livable area of the home and would be perfect for family groups or parties. The patio faces the dramatically raised, black concrete pool which becomes an artful backdrop for the rest of the home.
Loved our stay at Rethi's Merida Casa. Eduardo had a bottle of wine, fresh flowers, and a big basket of yum fruit waiting for us. Wifi and AC worked great. The house is unquestionably a real beauty even if it might have lost some polish since the pics were taken.
We were concerned about mosquitos and other pesky insects (as we always are in hot climates) but didn't have any problems.
We had good time in Merida. We loved the house. The only inconvenience we encountered was that the water in the shower was a little salty and didn't stay warm for long. Eduardo was very helpful and gave us some useful tips about Merida.
The House is a nice building and was very clean. the pool was great and refreshing. we had no problem with mosquitos or insects. I mean ants, but anyone who's travelled to Mexico enough knows that ants are a problem in any kitchen, specially in a Climate like Merida. Heat was at its peak when we where there, the living room was very hot, but if you open the main door small windows, both patio doors and the garden windows then you get a refreshing current. The kitchen had everything we needed. We were at a 5 minute cab ride from the nice spots from Centro. Eduardo, the manager, was very attentive and brought fresh fruit and flowers, he brought a speaker when we asked for a sound dock. Furniture and linens could improve. Over all good value.
Our overall experience was very nice.
Eduardo (the house keeper) was very helpful and accommodating. He received us with flowers and seasonal fruits. The house was equipped with modern and functional appliances, full set of dinnerware and purified drinking water. The pool was nice, it doesn't have a smooth finish to the floor and walls so it looks worn of, but it was clean and the privacy was an added bonus. House was clean, spacious and comfortable, both bedrooms where Air Conditioned and the dinning room was big and clean. Some of the furniture shown in the pictures has changed for better one. Mosquitoes were a concern, but it has screens to keep them out of the house. We are very happy to have chosen this house, it was a good experience!
If you are looking for a spacious place in downtown Merida, this would be a great choice!
We loved the house. It was just the two of us, so we didn't even use the second bed/bath. Eduardo was amazing! Had snacks and champagne waiting for us upon arrival. After driving from Cancun to Merida, it was greatly appreciated!!! Having a private pool was a huge joy for us! We'll definitely stay here again when we're in Merida!
Home is in an interesting part of town. I am not sure if I would stay there again but it was safe. The home itself is spacious and nice. Pictures are somewhat accurate but the home is starting to show some signs of wear and tear. The kitchen area was awesome with a great view to the pool. We too had issues with mosquitos/spiders. My husband got about 15 bites in one night. We noticed that there were cobwebs throughout the house as well. I think the home requires a good cleaning which is difficult to do as it seems the house is being turned over very quickly. We left at 9am and another guest was checking in at 3pm. As far as check-in, Eduardo was absolutely great. He was accommodating and super sweet by bringing us wine and snacks. He also gave us a lift to the bus station as we had too much luggage. Overall nice spot but recommend that the house get a thorough cleaning.
We stayed there 2 nights.
House was perfect for us, very comfortable, amazing relaxing pool and kitchen perfect for our romantic dinners.
About the Host, Rethi
I'm a journalist, who lives in Singapore, but fell in love with Merida. That explains why I have a home in Mexico, which I hope will bring travellers the same comfort it has given me.
