The Space

A peaceful setting to recover after a long flight or after a busy day visiting local Rotorua and Bay of Plenty. You can relax in the garden listening to the native Birdsong, have a refreshing swim in the Lake across the road, use our kayaks to explore the Tranquil lake and watch the wildlife,go fishing for trout, or use our mountain bikes to explore the many tracks in the Bush and forest a 10 minute ride away.
The Lakestay is a modern ,purpose built unit, separate from our home.
We offer a range of accommodation options that can be booked separately. You can enjoy the freedom of being self sufficient ,making use of our well equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ area or we are happy to provide breakfast ,lunch or dinner options for you. Cheryl uses mainly organic ingredients and produce from her garden ,where possible.Baskets of Homemade Breakfast supplies can be provided so you can prepare your own at a time that suits you. Ask about our "Kiwi BBQ Pack" for an easy dinner option in our relaxed garden environs.
The Lakestay has just 3 rooms. We can cater for doubles, singles, triples per room,
OR you can book as a Holiday unit for small groups and families, ideal for groups of 4-6 (max. 8).

Guest Access

The Lakestay has it's own access separate from our home. The 2 rooms have access to bathroom and toilet facilities, that are guest shared. Only sharing space with max. 2 persons. Mostly there is just 1 guest to share. The kitchen, dining area is also a guest share area , that opens out to the BBQ courtyard. There is plenty of room for guests to enjoy this area and share with other guests as it spreads out into Garden and native bush overlooking the lake.

Interaction with Guests

Be prepared for a friendly welcome, especially from "Possum" the cat! Cheryl will also be here to provide you with a home produced afternoon snack( if your timing is right). Steve will often chat with guests after work, while he is cooking our BBQ dinner or we are watering the garden, many interactions take place while I am outdoors tending to the garden . If we are inside we are easily accessible to see to all requirments.

The Neighborhood

We love this Lake and especially enjoy passing on information about all the lakes, and attractions in the area . We have the best swimming spot just 20 meters away and easy access for kayaks, fishing .
Lake Okareka is a small village community, just 8km from main highway.1km from Blue lake. Close to Buried Village and Lake Tarawera.

There is NO public transport to Lake Okareka.
Taxis are available from the airport and Rotorua.
Alternatively i am happy to pick up from Airport and Bus stop for FREE. A small charge($15) applies for extra trips into Rotorua.

About
Steve and I have been living at Lake Okareka for almost 20 years. We love being close to the Lake and the water activities over the summer months. We have a wonderful swimming spot a short walk away and enjoy some Trout fishing on our boat.I have always been a keen vegetable gardener, although our plot here is a lot smaller now that the family are grown and left home.I love reaping the rewards from our Organic garden and processing the surplus into Jams, Chutneys, pickles etc, that you may have the chance to sample if you arrive early enough for an afternoon snack. We also love spending time with our grandchildren when possible and often have them here enjoying the lake environment, also.
