Marika was very helpful in giving a tour of the boat and showing off its features.
The boat was very nicely appointed and we found it an excellent spot for an evening of listening to music and appreciating the view and the quiet sounds of the water.
Be sure to negotiate meeting times carefully, as they are less flexible than most other AirBnB hosts in this regard.
A group of my friends and I stayed on the Ohana overnight for a bachelorette party and it was definitely a positive experience. Marika and Steve were both very nice and welcoming. The sailboat was cozy and cutely decorated. It was spacious for our group (of 4). With three beds, two bathrooms, a stove, sink, and fridge it was plenty of space and amenities to have a great time. I was a tad nervous about getting motion sickness while hanging out on the boat but that really wasn't an issue (and I get motion sickness very easily). The area also has ample FREE parking nearby which was really convenient. They took us on a cruise around the bay which was definitely the highlight of the day! I would definitely stay with them again. One tip: bring earplugs for bedtime! Boats make a lot of noise at night due to the wind and waves (which they warned us about), so earplugs might come in handy :)
Overall, it's a great opportunity for a fun and unique adventure for either romance or just a group of friends!
We had a wonderful experience staying on Ohana. My wife and I came to San Fransisco for business and stayed the weekend on Ohana. The boat is beautifully kept and very comfortable and Steve and Marika were wonderful hosts meeting us on the first night and explaining all the details of staying on the boat. My wife's sister came to join us and we were lucky enough to be able to take her out sailing on Saturday. We had a truly memorable sail around the bay taking in breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. There is a real sense of community in the marina and one of our neighbors Gordon came to our rescue when we were having trouble docking and we had a really nice time chatting about our sailing escapades. This was an experience of a lifetime for us and we can not wait to get back for our next stay on Ohana. Thank you Steve and Marika for entrusting us with your beautiful yacht and sorry to have missed the race on Sunday... Perhaps next time!
Steve and Marika's sailboat is fantastic, very comfortable with nice head height... my friends all have loved it. Very comfortable, with a nice quiet location. Couldn't be better.
Marika was a nice host, and helped us learn the basics of living on a docked racing sailboat. It was our first time sleeping on an anchored boat, and we had no prior experience. Close driving experience to downtown Sausalito and Muir Woods. Very quiet, peaceful, and romantic, and we enjoyed the sunset and sunrise on the deck. Not an ideal place to spend a few nights as accommodations are limited relative to other nearby homes and options, but definitely an unique experience all around for those seeking something truly different. For those who want to go sailing for a day, a great option too.
Unfortunately We have not one Positive Feedback to give. Our first night was absolute misery. 2nd. & 3rd. Nights moved to a nearby Hotel.
We are so sorry to hear that. We acknowledge that we probably need to be more specific about the use of marine heads, wind whistling though the rigging and generally, for our guests who have never stayed on a yacht before, provide more information about the workings of a boat. Indeed, it is not a hotel and a sense of adventure would be helpful. We can only point to all the excellent reviews that were written by guests staying on Ohana.
Steve and Marneka (sp?) were gracious and welcoming hosts. The boat was beautiful - a little cramped (if you are tall - the beds and showers may be tough), but nicely appointed and very comfortable. If you know your way around a boat - it won't take you long to make yourself at home... if you don't - allow for trial and error as you explore the intricacies of boat plumbing - but it's all a part of a fun learning experience! Very relaxing and a glass of wine on the deck while listening to the waves splash against the boat was the perfect way to end the day!
About the Host, Steve
I am a licensed USCG captain and my wife Marika and I love to take people out on a trip in the Bay. We have had many guests and every one of them enjoyed staying on the boat and, of course, sailing on her. Ohana provides a romantic, comfortable setting for some special occasions. We enjoy sharing her.
