Treasure By The Sea Kas di Amigu is the ideal getaway for singles, couples or travel companions who prefer private and personal accommodations that reflects the Caribbean style over hotels and resorts.
Destination Treasure By The Sea Bonaire
Floating in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Venezuela and Columbia, the “ABC Islands” formed the group of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao with the island of Bonaire being the most remote in the region. Having a consistent tropical year round climate, Bonaire being quiet and tranquil is the ideal vacation spot where ever you are coming from. Here, in the Netherlands Antilles, Dutch territory, the people speak “Papiamento” a lilting mixture of Spanish and Portuguese with expressive Dutch, African and English elements. Its culture, natural landscape and limestone formations give it a distinctive air. Just 24 miles long and 3-8 miles wide, it is one of the quietest islands. Noted for the winds which sweep across the island, life is lived on the beach and outdoors under the trees gazing as the crystal clear blue ocean shimmers.
The allure and variety of Bonaire inspire the most pleasant form of wonderlust. A dreamy traveler could escape from their hectic life. Here the freedom loving wanderer can find peace, seek adventure, and renew love. Or simply enjoy the beauties of nature and the fresh air, undisturbed. The island offers something for the young and young at heart.
The owners were living in the US but fell in love with the unpretentious simplicity and the hallucinogenic color of the island while on holiday. With skill and sensitivity to the indigenous architecture and careful restoration, in 2013 they started renovating their charming Bonairean house and named it Treasure By The Sea. They decided to maintain the traditional character of the local architectural and are still in the process of being thoughtfully preserved. They repaired the roof, updated the electricity (110 volts) and plumbing and refurbished the rooms. Bonaire being known as a Diver’s Paradise, a dunk tank and 5 dive lockers were constructed for the ease of rinsing and storing gear. The garden is becoming luxuriant with new plantings of raspas, heliconias, cannas, hibiscus, oleander, elephant ears and palm trees. Bananas, pineapple, parsley, mint and basil grow on the property. Precious water is collected and recycled in the gardens. Butterflies, bees, hummingbirds hover and swarm over the fragrant flowers while the bananaquits, parrots, and parakeets are frequent visitors. Indoors, the welcome is warm, and everything pays homage to the sea. The owners kept the colors calm and collected. Textiles and furnishings were collected from the United States, however, the owners custom crafted many beautiful pieces using African tropical hardwood making the bed and armoires, the front gate and dive locker doors. Just off the coral coast, in the main city of Kralendijk, the happy couple created a place of delight and luxury and opened their doors to guests and friends. This is the ideal getaway for singles, couples or travel companions who prefer private and personal accommodations that reflects the Caribbean style over hotels and resorts.
The house was built to withstand summer heat and sun by allowing the trade winds flow and keep you comfortable. Vaulted ceilings and tiled floors throughout help keep it cool, airy and bright. Rather than air condition in the living room, it has sliding glass doors, gauze draperies and palm blades ceiling fans that freshen the air. In the bedrooms, the crisp coolness of the Ralph Lauren Reef Blue ceilings and white walls exuberate perfect harmony to inspire relaxation. The gel mattress cools you down and the bed linens invite you in. Local artist watercolor paintings express the love and appreciation of the sea. The bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning if you feel the trade winds aren’t cool enough during the summer nights, however, most people feel that having the natural island breeze gently caressing the skin is more pleasant. A superbly equipped kitchen with all clad cookware allows you to prepare delicious meals and enjoy dining in or al fresco. The patio offers places of shade and respite from the summers glare and provide a vantage point for viewing the sunlight flickering across the sea and the view of Klein. Let the purr of the nearby waves soothe your ears as you relax with a good book on the shaded cabanas and lounge chairs. Watching the seascape lets the imagination soon float away with the time. Days are spent outdoors - sun worshipping, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, kite surfing, hiking, bicycling, boating, sailing, kayaking, horseback riding, shopping and dining - all takes place beyond the residence. Off the road places that serve cold drinks and local food are very popular. Coral reefs are choreographed by psychedelic angelfish, turtles, barracudas, snappers, tarpon, eels, lobsters, crabs and octopus. Lucky spectators see rays, dolphins and whales. Most of the land and sea have been turned into a fiercely guarded nature preserve, and the turtles and flamingos live undisturbed. Throughout the year, visitors bicycle along the roads in nature with the iguanas, donkeys and goats.
The beauties and idiosyncrasies of this island invite longer stays of this glorious simple life. Understandably, friends who fly in never wish to leave as they are just having the time of their lives as you should too!

Treasure by the Sea is the perfect name for the house, the location, and the community environment that Su and Chris create for their guests. It truly is a treasure. From the first minute we arrived, we felt welcomed and that feeling stayed the whole time. Su and Chris offer great advice on their favorite dive sites, restaurants, grocery stores, and fun things to do that locals know about. Our first night we went to Taste of Bonaire in the town square and had a great dinner in a festival atmosphere. When we could not get a guide for a night snorkel on our last night, Su called a friend, Zsuzsanna, who guides and arranged it for us. It was a great last night event with Flow. As a house for diving from it was also perfect. Everything is there that you need for dive gear cleaning, safely storing it outside, and there is also a line in the back for hanging up clothes--so you can travel light. The house was gleaming clean and beautifully furnished and decorated, the beds are comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed—we cooked most nights and also used the grill outside. The porch a delight spot for dinner and after dive naps or reading! The location is great. We used the truck for getting to dives, but loved that we could walk for shopping, restaurants, ice cream (Gio’s) and a quick swim or snorkel. We also really enjoyed getting to meet the other renters and sharing stories with them. We had such fun people there at the same time as us! For the week we were there, we felt like we were in a very special community. I can’t wait to go back. Su and Chris really know how to host.
Treasure by the Sea is a great place to stay, very comfortable and tastefully furnished, and with every convenience. Su and Chris are very welcoming hosts, friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
It is only a 2 minute walk to the wonderful clear water, which is wonderful for snorkelling, close to shore and further out by the reef.
Getting into the centre of Kralendijk is a lovely 15 minute stroll along the waterfront.
We found it wasn't necessary to have a car for a week. There are good guided tours around the island, at reasonable costs.
Su & Chris greeted us at the unit and helped us carry our stuff from the car- very welcome as we were pretty fried by that point! They also took the time to show us around the unit and how to operate the lights/fans/AC.
They stopped by or were easily accessible when we had questions about where to snorkel or dine, and Su went over the map of the island to mark where good snorkeling sites and restaurants were. They also made dinner reservations for us. They're very friendly and open- great hosts!
Su and Chris were excellent hosts! Su personally picked us up from the airport and were treated to cocktails upon reaching the apartment.
Even before the I arrived, Su proved knowledgeable regarding SCUBA diving and recommended dive shops as well dives she and Chris had personally done. In addition to dive shops, they also recommended car rental places even though they offer their truck for rental (which we ended up renting).
The apartment is conveniently located a stone's throw from the nearest dive shop and minutes from several others. Downtown is a about a 10 minute walk which has several really good restaurants. The apartment is spacious, clean and has more then enough towels for 2 people. The AC in the back room cools extremely well while front room takes a little longer but hey, we're in the Dutch Caribbean and their is a nice breeze that blows through.
WiFi did not initially work but once it was pointed out Chris hunted down and resolved the issue while we sipped those previously mentioned cocktails.
Su and Chris's hospitality along with their knowledge of diving locations and the great apartment will make sure that I stay with them again on future trips to Bonaire!

We had a wonderful stay with Su and Chris! The ease of having the tank delivered to us was also great. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed, and it was perfect having the use of the truck and scooter. Our stay couldn't have been better. Chris shared some of his catch of the day with us and we got to enjoy lion fish for the first time! Thank you so very much, we had an awesome time!
Memorable vacation! Thank you to our hosts Su and Chris for giving us a home away from home. You made us feel at ease and welcomed. We appreciate also that you took the time to come with us to get our diving gear and that you made arrangements for an endless supply our air tanks delivered directly at the house. That made it so easy to dive everyday. We dove more than we thought and that was a great thing! We really enjoyed diving with you and hunting the lionfish.
Your 2 dogs are the best, just adorable!
Can't wait to go back to Bonaire! Next time we will try windsurf at Lac Bay and of course dive again!
Merci et meilleur succès à vous deux!

About the Host, Su And Chris
We love shore diving & snorkeling and roaming about around the island. We found this property as a diamond in the rough and are slowly turning it into a gem! Fresh paint, new quality bedding, furnishings and appliances are the recent beginnings of turning this unique property into a luxurious residence.
We loved this property the minute we saw it! The location is amazing - 1 house away from the water. It is close to town where you can walk to the shops and restaurants and far enough away for privacy.
In the morning, make a cup of coffee and walk 100 feet to the water, sit on the ledge and look out into the ocean while the breeze is blowing in your hair and just enjoy the moment! Parrots sit in our trees, iguanas roam our yard and the birds eat sugar out of your hand. Snorkeling in front of our house you will find many eels and octopus hiding in the coral. Don't forget your camera!
