The space

Our Mountain Retreat is close to the Pikes Peak Highway, half way up Ute Pass from Colorado Springs. Mountain Retreat sets apart from our main house. There is a living room, kitchen, bath and outside balcony with a gas grill. A single bedroom has a queen bed and a single bed. HD TV and cable, DVDs, internet WiFi. Fenced property has a security code gate, on park-like setting at 7500 feet elevation. And to relax, take a dip in our hot tub and emerge with hot towels fresh from the towel warmer!

Nearby Sights: Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Manitou Springs, U.S. Olympic Training Center, Air Force Academy, Seven Falls, Helen Hunt Falls, North Pole (Home of Santa's Workshop) and Dinosaur Resource Center in Woodland Park.

Nearby Day Trips: Royal Gorge whitewater rafting trips, horseback riding, Cripple Creek mining town & casinos, Florissant Fossil Beds, Eleven Mile Canyon park and Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center near Divide. Breckenridge, Monarch and Keystone ski areas are about two hours away.

There is much more with an easy drive. For those who want to go trout fishing, that can be arranged!

There is a good chance you will see wildlife from the balcony. We've seen deer, wildcat, bear, beaver, fox, coyote, birds galore, and one time we even saw a lynx right outside the fence!
We have a variety of snowshoes for your use and suggestions for trails. We can help you make arrangements for skiing or snowmobiling.
English and German are spoken.

Guest access

A single flight of stairs is taken to get to Mountain Retreat.

Interaction with guests

We love to have our guests come over to visit. At the same time, we know that some guests will want privacy and we respect that at all times.

The neighborhood

The unincorporated town of Cascade has only a few hundred residences. It has only one pizza delivery place and one restaurant, but it's a good one: Wines of Colorado. Mountain Retreat has neighbors on two sides, backs up to Fountain Creek and there is no visible neighbor across the street. It is outside the town by about a mile. Your privacy is further insured by being in a separate structure from your hosts.

Getting around

You will need a P.O.V. or rental car to get around since we are a mile from the nearest restaurant and everything you want to see will require a car to visit.

I have lived in the USA for 40 years, having been born and reared in Germany. My husband, Robert, is a retired lawyer. The two of us live in the main house on the premises. I have been a sports parachutist, airplane pilot, skier, skater and competitive ballroom dancer. We love to go to the opera & symphony. I tend my flower and vegetable gardens while Robert tends to the yard and serves as webmaster for a couple of organizations.
