Nothing fancy here. Just a two room (kitchen/living room bedroom study) and bath on the top (3rd) floor of an old farmhouse overlooking a valley near Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. This space is extremely quiet, 1.5 miles from town, hiking trails nearby & central to Berkshire attractions.

The Space

Nestled at the head of a valley surrounded by Lenox Mountain to the West and North, and by Kennedy Park and the Town of Lenox to the East, you get a peaceful view over Under Mountain Horse Farm down a valley that stretches out to Tanglewood (summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra) to the South.

Indoors is nothing fancy. The floors are original wood painted grey and authentically chipped, and very clean. Most of the bedroom and living room are covered by rugs. Furnishings are yard sale Americana including a bentwood rocker, and southwest patterned futon. The futon can accommodate two additional guests. The stove and fridge are vintage electric, and serviceable. The bed is king size with very comfy memory foam.

Guest Access

Guests have full access to the apartment including the kitchen and a walk-in closet. There is a washer and dryer in the basement. The farm has horses available for lessons and trail riding. There are chickens, goats, and other critters you might expect on a horse farm.

Just outside the door are hiking trails in all directions. Just down the road to the East is Tanglewood and Kripalu, and to the West is the historic town of Lenox.

Sorry, no cable TV, but who needs it with everything else to do here?

Interaction with Guests

I make my apartment available to guests at times when my cat and I are out of town. So I'm not physically on the property. But I'm only a phone call away. Everything here is on the honor system, and very secure. The finest kind of people live in three other farmhouse apartments. We all get along, respect each others privacy, and need for quiet.

The Neighborhood

What I love most about the neighborhood is the nearness of horses, nature, and wonderful attractions such as Tanglewood, Shakespear and Company, Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, Kennedy Park, The Mount (Edith Wharton's Estate), the beautiful old Lenox Library, Ventfort Hall (one of the famed Berkshire "cottages"), Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum, Lenox Mountain, Woods Pond, and the historic Church on the Hill.

And then, there are all the other Berkshire attractions to which this location is central including skiing at centers north and south, plus cross country skiing in nearby Kennedy Park.

Or you can hang out on the back lawn, and watch the horses tease each other, munch hay, roll, and sleep on their feet.

Or just curl up with a book, listen to music, or connect to WiFi.

Getting around

It's about a 45 minute leisurely walk into the Town of Lenox, where you can catch the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority Bus, to most other Berkshire locations.

Other Things to Note

Be prepared for two flights of stairs, but the commanding view is your reward.

Folks with allergies, be aware that a cat lives with me in the apartment when it's not available to guests.

About
I'm a single retired web developer and community organizer. I moved to Lenox to simplify my life and have been amply rewarded with the quiet and serenity of this place. At the same time I love to take advantage of the world class cultural venues close by. My cat Gabby and I get along quite well in our cozy apartment, and on occasion visit friends in Maine, or family in Detroit and the SanDiego area. My motto is "Simplyfy, simplify, simplify" (thank you Henry Thoreau). If I could have a second motto, it would be "Live in the Now" (thank you Eckhart Tolle). The apartment reflects my simple life style, so there's not much clutter. I think it helps to reduce clutter in the mind. In college I majored in Philosophy, Psychology, and Religion. I seem to have dropped the organized religion along the way, but have used psychology extensively in my work, and continue to read philosophy. I'm partial to Albert Camu's Philosophy of the Absurd. Along those lines, I aspire to be a clown one day. My musical preferences include traditional jazz, folk, and classical. In the summers I occasionally attend Tanglewood just down the street. On the Fourth of July I can see their fireworks out the apartment window. My favorite movie is The Hunt for the Red October, although most of my viewing these days is YouTube educational courses provide by most major universities. I'm active in community organizing among the poor in nearby Pittsfield, and think the answer to our government problems is grass roots organizing, non-violent direct action, and self-government. Along these lines I like the thinking of Noam Chomsky and Chris Hedges. 5 things I can't live without? My cat, my apartment, my family, NPR, and DemocracyNow. I hope to develop lasting friendships with my guests, and therefore, want to do everything in my power to make your stay in my place as enjoyable for you as I find it to be for me.
