Dar Ouali is an elegant riad located in the heart of the medina of Marrakech, close to the Museum of Marrakech and the famous restaurant Le Foundouk. The riad, now a private home, was completely refurbished by its new owners and designer Corinne Bensimon in Spring 2012 to accommodate travelers looking for traditional architecture and authenticity.
Large carved wooden lintels over very tall columns surround the square of the patio whose center features a plunge pool, a delight for chilling out during the hot hours of the day. In the living room, beautiful fabrics cover comfortable seatings. There is a small ornated b'hou covered with cushions. The painted ceilings are splendid. The living room has a fireplace.
The kitchen has impressive proportions. It communicates with a dining room where up to 10 guests will enjoy the delicious cuisine of Samira, the house cook. Upstairs is a second lounge (wireless internet connection) ideal for reading or playing games.
Around the patio and upstairs are five bedrooms each with a private bathroom. One of the upstairs bedrooms is covered with a centuries old polychrome wooden ceiling.
- Bedroom 1: Ground floor, king size bed, bathroom with shower
- Bedroom 2: Ground floor, king size bed, bathroom with shower, air conditioning
- Bedroom 3: 1st floor, twin beds or double bed (180 cm), bathroom with shower, air conditioning
- Bedroom 4: 1st floor, king size bed, extra bed for child on request, bathroom with shower, air conditioning
- Room 5: 1st floor, king size, extra bed for child on request, bathroom with shower and bath, air conditioning.
The large rooftop terrace offers a beautiful view to the South and the Atlas Mountains. The terrace features a covered sitting area which is ideal for a drink. 4 loungers are available for sunbathing.
The patio of the riad is covered in winter with a transparent canvas in order to maintain a comfortable temperature.
Samira the house cook will prepare and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner according to your desires.
Awesome Riad. Very quiet. This trip in Marrakesh was amazing, thanks to Ingrid and his team.
Ingrid pre arranged a car to pick us up from the airport. Thankfully as the ATM machines at the Airport did not dispense cash.
As cars are not able to drive through the Medina we were dropped off at the gates and met by a porter who took us to the riad.
I must admit I was quite overwhelmed by the walk to the riad. Once we entered the riad it was as if we had entered into an oasis.
Wow! The decor is simple and beautiful, ample bedding and towels offered. The rooms are a generous sizes and comfortable.
The place is impeccably clean.
Just like these images but even better and luxurious.
Welcomed with mint tea, by Samira, the house maid. Ingrid joined us and showed us the rooms.
not only did she explain the map of the city, she took us through the bazaar and made sure we took note of where we were going…again an overwhelming experience.
She advised us not to take directions from the countless kids that wait like vultures for you to get lost, and then ask you for money to direct you. Instead look for a adults, shop keepers to give you direction.
I must admit the best experience was the riad and the hospitality offered by Ingrid and Samira. Breakfast was served daily on the roof garden - home made pancakes which we loved! As well as copious amount of mint tea throughout the day. The wifi is brilliant at the riad, worked throughout the building and even on the roof top. Do ask cafes and restaurant for their access codes as all offer wifi for free.
We mainly relied on (website hidden) map for directions, however one night we got totally lost and called Ingrid at 11pm for help- and she immediately sent the night porter to come and collect us from the town centre, which was a life saver.
Some restaurants offer to pick you up from your residence, and drop you off. I would highly recommend this as the city is a labyrinth, and at night its dark and so easy to get lost.
The Medersa ben Yousef was my personal favourite and luckily its two minutes from the raid
in conclusion, Ingrid's riad was amazing 10 out of 10, I could just take a holiday and spend my whole time in her riad, and be more than content, the Medina sorry a 5 out of 10.
If this is your first time to Marrakech, I would highly recommend researching as much as possible before going.
Will be a great benefit if you speak french.
