About my place:
===============
I live in the perfect location to go to and from from the strip without having to deal with much traffic. Also, I am very close to the airport and there is a bus that goes from the airport to very close to my neighborhood. I live across from the University, which is a great campus for walking around and enjoying the breeze, and very pleasant. Some of the oldest trees in the city reside there on the north side of campus.

If you prefer, there are many bus stops that will take you to any corner of the city walking distance from my front door. Many guests have used the bus and have been extremely pleased. 5$ for an all day bus pass! The bus can take you to and from airport.

The private room available has its own PRIVATE BATHROOM with full shower and tub. There is a full size bed and a small nightstand. There is a flat screen TV and a Nintendo Wii with about 10 games for you to play when you are just hanging in the room. It also has Netflix so you can enjoy some commercial free TV time. There is Art on the walls. The room can accommodate more with my queen size air mattress i can setup for you at no additional cost. I also have a couch in the living room that sleeps two people very comfortably. I will not accept groups larger than 4 or 5.

If you are looking for a great spot to venture into Las Vegas via bicycle then look no further. You need to have your own bike or rent one from McGhies (about 50$ a day for a really really sick road bike and gets cheaper with the more days you rent). Alternatively, I have a 2 bikes, helmets, and locks should you want to rent mine for $20/day.

I am an avid cyclist and will potentially go on rides with you if my schedule allows. Also, if you wish to ride the Red Rock loop its about a 4 mile ride to catch the bus (30 minute bus ride +/- ) pretty much right up to Red Rock National Conservation Area. (Serious riders only for that ride).

I am also really well versed in the city and can answer almost all your questions. The house is about a block from all the cool beer bars and college spots but also just about 5 miles from downtown and 1 mile from the strip. No cabs needed! Just ride your bike or the bus! =)

Also it has become a tradition for everyone who stays to sign "The Guitar." It has become quite a local legend as I am a well known photographer in Las Vegas and many of my clients (some celebrity) have signed it. Most notably: Chumlee of Pawn Stars signed it when we did a photoshoot at the house. To see my work look up PhotoFM in a web search and let me know what you think! : )

Interaction with Guests

My wife and I do live in the place, and you will see us from time to time. If you happen to stay on a day where I am working at home, I will be around most of the day but will keep to myself. I am usually up for a trip to a local pub for a beer or two should you need someone to keep you company! :)

The Neighborhood

The University Crest is an interesting melting pot of a few various types of people: hip & young college types, dog walkers, the occaisional family, but not alot of little kids running around. Most people in my neighborhood keep to themselves, and its 99% of the time very quiet and peaceful. There is a small park next to the pool that i have a key for that is great for barbecueing and relaxing on some nice grass under a tree. A true hidden Vegas gem!

Getting around

There is a public transit center on UNLV campus, 5 minutes on foot from my front door

  • This was my first ever experience with airbnb so I was not sure what to expect.
Fred and his fiancée Erin and her dog Ella are awesome, warm and welcoming hosts. They keep things simple and basic and no fuss. It was relaxed, easy-going and I had a lot of fun with them and when their friends came over. Fred and Erin provided lots of advise about what to do and to see and where to eat. I stayed one week and would definitely come and stay again if they have me again. The rooms look like on the photos, so everything was just as promised. The neighborhood is quite quiet and seemed safe also. I loved it there!!!!

  • Fred is a great host. A very pleasant guy with a great playlist and charming friends. The room is ok and the bathroom too. I recommand Fred's appartment, i had the best burgers of my life at Badger's place (i took my breakfasts there too !). The neighborhood is very quiet and there are a lot of places to park your car. Thank for the reception and the nice conversations we had. Later skater !

  • Fred is an awesome host, a talented photographer, and a fun person to be around. The place felt like home. He showed me around the area (there are many shops, stores, places to eat, bars to hang out) we even went around town for some classic Vegas action.

If you're staying in Vegas and want to meet a cool person, stay with Fred. I look forward to meeting him again.

  • Fred is very nice guy, super friendly, funny, helpful and easy-going.
I stay for 2 days here and have a good time with him,his cute dog and his friends.Fred and his friends are very friendly, though my English is not as good as those native speakers, but they were patient and communicated with me. = =|||
While I arrived and put down my luggage he explained to me the area around his place (which have many shops, stores, places to eat, bars to hang out) . And he aldo gave me many advices on what to see on the Strip.…^3^…
Staying at Fred's place is really comfortable, clean and convenient like you were at home. His house is in a quiet block just a couple blocks from the Strip (10mins walk to gas station take bus 201A/B to the Strip costs $2), and very near the airport (from/to airport costs $15, you can call a cab to come and pick you up), next to UNLV, with grocery stores, restaurants and lots of shops around. It's ture this city is build for car not for public transportation Fred told me, so if you plan to come it would be much better if you have a car or rent a car.
If you visit, don't forget to sign the guitar!
And say hello to his cute dog~ ^0^ (I took many photos.)
This was my first experience with AirBnB and it was a great one! I highly recommend staying in Fred's place if you are in Vegas or plan to come to Vegas.

  • Fred is a perfect host! He's very polite, open minded and defenitely a cool person to hang out. I stayed one night at his house and everything worked fine. The house is located pretty close to the strip and a bus station is only a five minute walk away. I highly recommend this place :)

  • Great place to stay! Nice house tucked in to a chill neighborhood close to UNLV and the Strip. Be sure to ask Fred about some of the great places to eat nearby!

  • Well, what can I say? Fred, Erin(apologies for spelling) and Bella (the cute dog) were great to meet, both busy young people but took time out to teach me pool (sorry Fred:-) recommended the awesome places and sights one would want to encounter in such a great happening place!
Accommodation was great, clean, comfortable, spacious and above all cool (on all levels), amenities fab and hosts generous. Only down side was that I arrived a day late and had to leave but was a great experience and if I am ever allowed out on my own again I will definitely stay with them again (if they let me)
Cheers, take care and thanks to you both!

  • Although we weren't able to meet Fred because he was travelling he proved to be a really nice and responsible guy. He replied to all of our messages within minutes and had everything set up for our visit. His friend Matt was great, and was nice enough to spend some time giving us advice about the places we were going to visit in the area. Overall the place was clean and had everything we needed. I managed to find a small space on one of the guitars to sign, they are getting pretty crowded =) Thanks for everything Fred, hope to meet you in person some day. Cheers!

  • Fred and co. were all quite warm, friendly & lively hosts, and were very helpful in assisting us with recommendations in order to make our stay informed & comfortable. This is a laid-back group of folks and a no-frills house in a great location & safe neighborhood. If you want a little more flavor mixed into your visit, rather than that which a sterile, expensive, boring & quiet hotel experience would provide, go for Fred's place. He helped us get tickets to a show with his locals discount, and brought his bed out to the main room so that my friend and I could be separately comfortable. He was generous with bottled water, wine and invited us to his BBQ, offering us food from that, which was so nice to feel so welcome.

    Just a few minor issues.
The *only* reason for the absence of a fifth star was cleanliness:

    1. Pillows are cheap, and it's definitely time for some new ones at the Morledge house. Dirty pillows, ratty linens. We had a set of sheets on one bed, but only one sheet and a blanket on the other. It was not as clean as it could have been in general. He did wash the linens and had the towels stacked for us and the beds were made every morning, which was nice.

    2. Furniture was sparse in the bedroom with nothing to sit on, write on, put anything on except the floor, including not a single hook on the wall for a towel anywhere in either the bedroom or in the bathroom. Thus it was hard to keep our stuff organized, with only the floor available to us for stacking & spreading things out on.

    3. The refrigerator, carpets, and kitchen in general could use a good cleaning... we planned on doing some cooking there but it just wasn't that inviting of a space to do so.

    4. The shower needs some attention from a plumber. It takes some time to get the right temps through the shower head because the handle needs adjusting and half of the water floods out of the tub faucet which diminishes the water pressure out of the shower head quite a bit.

All four of these points are relatively unimportant in the greater scheme of things... overall Fred was a total sweetheart and a very congenial host. Thanks Fred!

    Response from Fred:

    1. Pillows: new pillows, pillowcases, and sheets have been purchased since their departure.

    2. Furniture in bedroom was clearly shown in pictures, There is ample writing space, a spare laptop, and a very large full empty counter for writing. Since this review, I have installed towel racks.

    3. Cleaning crew didn't have time to come in as they stayed back to back with other guests and there was no availability.

    4. Shower issue will be resolved in the next few days from the writing of this response as I have scheduled a plumber to come in and replace the entire shower head, faucet, and handle. 8/24/2012

About
I am an independent freelance photographer who earned a degree in Biochemistry in 2007. I fell in love with photography, bicycle riding, hiking, and everything involving NOT being cooped up in a lab all day. Hence the career change. I enjoy partying, but I also value a good day of solid work. I have been hosting my place out for over two years, and I have also used Airbnb as a guest while traveling overseas and in America so I know what to expect from both ends of this experience. I have been to Thailand, Hawaii, most of southern and northern California, Chicago, and St. Louis. I look forward to meeting you and sharing some travel stories over a nice cup of coffee or beer :)
