Welcome to Dolphin Bay Cabanas.

Our small eco-conscious waterfront resort has just three gorgeous en-suite cabanas. With great views across the bay, you can watch the dolphins play while relaxing on your own private deck or on either of the two over the water relaxation ranchos.

The space

The Cabanas accommodate a maximum of two people. The guests sleep on a king-sized bed protected by mosquito nets.
Every cabana has a private bathroom, front porch with chairs, storage space and a ventilator.
Our eco-conscious resort runs off solar power and water is collected in our rainwater catchment system, so you'll be drinking the freshest water, free of charge.
We have a chocolate Lab Mira and an American Cocker Spaniel Jasper - they are both super friendly and welcoming.

Guest access

-We offer rich, home-made meals 3 times per day. Beakfasts (8 USD/person), lunches (8 USD/person) and dinners (15USD/person) are available on demand.
-There are also 3 local restaurants in the area which we can take you to at a small fee for fuel.
-Our guests have access to all the facilities on DBC grounds and other public areas on the island.
-We have two over-water ranchos with hammocks and a common area/restaurant.
-All the accomodation facilities have Wi-Fi access.
-There is a range of sailing boats which you are welcome to rent during your stay.
-We also have a cayak, a locally hand-made cayuco and basic snorkeling equipment which you can use free of charge.
-We are happy to arrange tours for you such as dolphin watching, botanical gardens, chocolate farm, and any of the local islands.

Interaction with guests

There is always someone around here to help you. We also like sharing a meal with our guests while enjoying a glass of wine and talking about life :-)

Other things to note

We encourage you to bring a repellent - it's the tropics after all; and a flashlight which comes in handy after sundown. There is a good app called "Flashlight".

Beautiful location, very friendly staff. They need to work on food options for people with allergies.

Unfortunately, we never got a chance to stay here. We were scheduled to arrive the same day the governments of Costa Rica (where we were coming from) and Panama issued warnings to evacuate the Caribbean coast in advance of possible landfall of Hurricane Otto. In the end, the storm moved north, but we chose to follow recommendations and notified Jelle of our decision not to come. It has been radio silence from him ever since, despite attempts to call two different numbers from Costa Rica, messages sent through AirBnB, and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) messenger. I have filed a request through AirBnB for a possible refund of some, if not all of the amount paid, but have yet to hear back. I am really disappointed with the lack of communication on the part of the owners. We were really disappointed not to be able to complete this part of our trip due to the unforeseen circumstances (one which is outlined in AirBnB's list of extenuating circumstances regarding refunds) and were hoping to be able to try again at another time. The reviews of this couple seem so wonderful that I hesitate to write a negative review, but I can't say that I am pleased with the lack of response from them.

How do I go about explaining my beautiful experience at the Dolphin Bay Cabanas experience in words? It is tough, because I am still feeling the rejuvenation and bliss from my stay with Jelle y Diana - even days after. Hard work is rewarded by a vacation, but is justified by hosts like Jelle y Diana. Both have such big hearts and stories to accompany, you will feel like you are with them on their adventure. Everyday was greeted with delicious foods by Diana, family style dinners and exciting stories from Jelle - both of whom will make it their upmost priority that your stay with them is comfortable and relaxing. The Cabanas were very comfortable and clean, and the jungle botanical gardens that surround the property, was amazing to walk through. So many different plants, flowers and trees - all maintained daily. My girlfriend and I saw horses, monkeys, sloths, dolphins but the animals we made best friends with were the beautiful dogs of our hosts - Estrella, Jasper, Mira and Buddy - all of whom will make sure you will feel at home and that you have friend with you at all times. We took their Canoes out to the nearby reefs (only about 20 min canoe trip) where we saw colorful corals, starfish and all types of sea life. It was amazing. The journey to the cabanas is straight forward, as you can call Jelle to pick you up from Bocas Town - or just have a Boat Taxi take you there. It was DEFINITELY worth it to get away from the hype of Bocas Town for a few nights to experience the ambient sounds and views of Dolphin Bay. Thank you Jelle y Diana, I am excited for our paths to cross again!

This is a FABULOUS property with breathtaking views and Jelle and Diana are amazing hosts. Jelle was gracious enough to show us around the property and took us on a long walking tour. And Diana is a wonderful cook and served us some delicious meals. My husband and I loved the place and their hospitality. I would definitely recommend this place and if we return to Panama, we will surely stay again.

Due to the nature of the accommodation, this review requires more thought and details as it is an incredible opportunity to experience Bocas Tel Toro, an amazing Island get away. 1. Units - This is an eco lodge. Power is self generated. Water is collected from rain. It's an amazing opportunity to live in a beautiful environment whilst enjoying nature. The water and views are spectacular. You can hike the island. You can hear and will have the chance to see Howler Monkeys. In the bay, you have the opportunity to see Dolphins playing in the water. An unbelievable adventure that all should experience. Bocas is a world unto itself and travel to this region is growing. If you have the chance to see Bocas, this facility will enhance and augment your experience. A very big must. 2. The host - in a location like this, in which you want to have the full experience, your host is extremely important. They will be the ones that go out of their way to show you what other's may not have the opportunity to see. Jelle does not disappoint on this level. From the beginning, he was friendly, sharing experiences of living in Bocas, providing information about this history and the life on these beautiful islands. He is a skilled yachtsman, and this leads to great skill in navigating and ensuring you have great rides on the launcha. He can be enticed (we were very lucky) to take you to out of the way spots that give you unique insight into the beauty of the islands, as well as experience in a manner simply beyond seeing. You feel a part of the life, and Jelle delivers that. Combined, accommodation rustic, charming, and beautiful, combined with a host who loves his work, environment, and the art of making his guests feel special, this experiences is amazing. The meals are great eaten family style. This gives you the opportunity to meet and interact with the other guests who will only augment your experience and leave you with a sense of finding new friends. Final tips: 1. Be sure to take bug repellent - small black flies (common on beach areas) can be a nuisance. Be liberal with the spray...avoiding their bites will keep your experience meaningful. 2. Take cash - there are not a lot of POS machines. You are on an island and cash is required for water taxies, other excursions, meals eaten in other restaurants etc. Roughly plan what you might do during your stay so you are sure to have enough cash and can relish all the activities that are available. Other than that - go and enjoy!

Dolphin bay cabañas is a beautiful place to spend the day resting, reading, and picking over your book to watch dolphins swim on the bay. Jelle and Diana were great hosts; we borrowed kayaks, little sailboats and even a cayuco (the locals' transport) to explore the bay and snorkel on the nearest coral reef just two doors down from our dock. The cabañas are comfortable and the food reasonably priced. You should prepare yourself with snacks for lunch as there are not many alternatives for food beyond the menu at the cabañas (which is delicious and family style). If you rent the cottage you will have access to a kitchen. You can also walk the gardens and play with their adorable dogs. The place is adorable, welcoming, and beautiful.
