Hello! We welcome you to stay in our spacious, private garden apartment during your next trip to Philadelphia. Situated in our historic Victorian house in the "streetcar suburb" of Cedar Park, the Hazel House Apartment features all the comforts of ho

The bi-level apartment is attached to our house, but is completely separated and has its own private entrance. It has two bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a living room and a full kitchen. There is also outdoor space including a deck that connects to a small lawn and garden, as well as a propane Weber grill for your use.

There is a queen bed in one bedroom, and a twin bed in the second. The bedrooms are connected by a bathroom with full tub/shower. A full-size air mattress is available if you need it for children and additional guests. Guests staying for more than a few days will also appreciate the private basement laundry area.

The living room features a leather sofa, kitchen table, and parlor room. The kitchen overlooks the garden and has a refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher. It is stocked with coffee & tea, dishes, utensils and pots & pans.

The apartment entrance is around the side of the house and accessed via a well-lit pathway. Enter using a digital keypad that will be programmed with a 6-9 digit numerical code - no need to worry about keys.

As your hosts, our goal is to be helpful and accommodating while respecting your privacy. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask, otherwise, we will leave you to enjoy your stay here autonomously.

A leafy, diverse neighborhood with fascinating architecture, Cedar Park offers an array of delightful cultural, culinary, and recreational experiences. Walk 5 minutes to the Mariposa Co-op Food Market where you can stock up on fresh and healthy foods. The Baltimore Avenue commercial corridor also has large variety of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops including the Dock Street Brewery, Curio Theater, Bindlestiff Books, VIX Emporium, Little Baby's Ice Cream, and Vietnam Cafe.

FOR THE KIDS
There are three parks with playgrounds nearby. Cedar Park (5-minute walk) has a small, very modern playground in a grassy, shady park. Clark Park (10-minute walk) is much larger with two playgrounds, walking paths, tables and chairs, and a great year-round farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Malcolm X Park (10-minute walk) is another great choice with a huge playground surrounded by great victorian architecture. The apartment is also stocked with some toys and coloring books.

Free, on-street parking is plentiful. The Route 34 Trolley and Route 42 Bus are 3 blocks away and will take you to the Penn/Drexel Campuses, HUP and CHoP in less than 10 minutes, and into Center City Philadelphia in less than 20 minutes. The airport and Amtrak station are both easy to get to from our apartment.

  • Our Stay in Philadelphia was good. The accommodation is a small house, for 4 adult is it a little bit too small, unfortunately to cook a meal for 4 people is difficult, the pots a too small. We make a BBQ. It was great. The house was clean and quiet.

  • Jen is a warm, responsive, generous host, and the apartment is lovely: perfect for a small family. Great backyard space, too! The neighborhood is very charming and funky; we loved the nearby parks, Milk and Honey coffee shop, and the food co-op. Public transportation is super easy. Highly recommend this listing for a stay in W. Philly!

  • Great Apt. Perfect location to food, bars, coffee shops. Everything you need in Apt and very clean and airy. Loved the bed, and towels better than any hotel. I loved the private backyard. I just couldn't of asked for a better place in the city

  • My husband, toddler son, and I enjoyed staying at the Hazel house. It is quaint and cozy and has all the amenities we expected. Jen provided a pack-n-play for us which helped a lot. Getting in late was a little tricky to find parking but both nights, we got lucky (spots within a block). The house is within walking distance of a great park (Farmers Market on Sat) and the weekend we were there, we spent time at a fun Craft Faire taking place at the Cemetery (yes, strange...but lots of good stuff). We addressed a few minor issues with Jen privately but none of them would keep us from recommending this place for other families. Just note: stairs are really steep.

  • The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had a large 'fridge and stove.
    This apartment lacked a television.
Advertised as a bed and breakfast but sadly there was no sign of any breakfast.
Despite agreeing to the terms and conditions when making the booking I was sent a second request the day before our arrival to sign again via (website hidden) document. Somewhat precious.
Arrival time was changed from the advertised blurb. On arrival the basement had flooded and hosts were attending to it.
The stairs to the second floor was dangerously steep and the railing did not feel secure.

  • Jen's apartment is just perfect: clean, quiet, confortable and safe. The backyard is a delight when preparing breakfast, and having two bathrooms just makes everything easier. We loved everything during our stay and Jen was helpful and available.
I would definitely recommend this apartment.
If you are visiting Philadelphia, you might want to know the fastest way to get into town is walking ten minutes to the metro and a ten minutes ride will get you into the center. When coming back at night, we always took a cab though.

About
My husband, Jamie, and I live here with our two young sons and our dog, Jerry. We are originally from the New England area, and have lived in DC, NH, MA and RI before moving to Philly in 2006. We bought this big old house in 2008 and cherish our friendly neighbors and our exciting neighborhood. I am a Landscape Architect - I plan and design playgrounds, parks, and other public spaces in Philadelphia and around the world. During my free time - which isn't much with two little ones - I love to garden, cook, and practice Yoga. Jamie is a Core Systems Administrator at UPenn.
