Q18 Is it safe in Bali?
Bali is attracting tourists in record numbers however, at times the Australian Government gives out warnings against travel to Indonesia. As well as this, Bad news stories from Bali are sensationalised in the Australian media, and good news stories rarely see the light of day. Drink lots of water, be careful about what you eat, apply lots of common sense along with sunscreen and mosquito repellent, relax and enjoy Bali.

Q19 What is the weather like in Bali?
Bali is eight degrees south of the equator and has a typical tropical climate with Wet and Dry Seasons. Generally is it warm and there is very little change in the average temperatures across the year. When considering Bali weather and climate, the dry season from June to October is the best time of year to travel with clear skies and lovely warm temperatures. If however you come during the Wet Season which runs from November to March you are in for some warm wet fun. The coastal areas have high humidity during the Wet Season, and along with the slightly higher temperatures means that you will feel sticky and hot and will want to jump back into the pool. A short deluge in the morning can turn a road into a river. The water however goes as quickly as it arrives and is usually gone by the afternoon; a nuisance rather than a danger. Staying at this time of year you may find yourself wading ankle-deep through water to get to the taxi, and the beach may simply be out of the question as it becomes awash with debris brought down by the rivers. Raincoats and umbrellas are semi-useful, and you can expect to get wet if you go out, best to just linger longer at the coffee shop until the rain stops. After the downpour the skies can clear quickly, and it is “another beautiful day in paradise”. The end of the wet season is marked by the Nyepi celebration where monsters parade the streets, which is worth seeing at least once in a life time.

Surfers have 2 seasons to consider. During the middle of the dry season (July to September) the west coast of Bali is favourable for surfing. While in the wet months from November to March the wind turns around and the west side of the island now has the better off-shore breaks.

The month of July can be windy and is perfect conditions for locals to fly their large kites, and the skies hum from the strings. You can attend kite festivals and join the local celebrations. The pleasant winds bring relief from the heat. Some parts of Bali will be very dry, and the lush greenery seems to have vanished as if never to return. However the rice fields always bring that emerald hue to the landscape, and our gardens are always lush and feature a surprising array of flowers. top

Q20 Is it safe at Bali Ginger Suites?
Bali Ginger Suites has 24 hour staffing, and we also have CCTV cameras monitoring the public areas. All bedrooms have safe deposit boxes. Outside visitors must register at the Front Office before being permitted to enter.
Q21 Where do we go and what can we do in Bali?
There is so much to see and do, with something for everyone. We highly recommend that you arrive with at least a few ideas about what you would like to do so that you get the kind of holiday you want, or you can just follow your nose. Most information about what to do and where to go can be easily found on the internet. Our staff are very happy to help you with recommendations, information and booking tours etc. To give you a start, below are just a few of the things we enjoy about Bali.

Q22 Should I tip staff?
By all means tip staff if you feel like you wish to. It is not expected or required but very much appreciated. Tips are shared unless guests request otherwise. We do provide bonuses to staff, and welcome your feedback as a guide to this.

  • Spent 3 nights in the 2 BR pool side suite. The staff was friendly, the area felt very safe and was close to shopping and other Bali tourist activities. The beach is a quick 10 minute walk as well. Overall this is a great place to stay, the only issue you may run into is the nightclub music from the street close by. When trying to sleep in your room it's not too bad but you will hear it and all 3 nights it went pretty late. That's the only downside. Loved the breakfast, pool, and incredibly friendly staff.

  • Lou was a wonderful host. Her and her husband were the most gracious hosts and very informative about all our questions. They went out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. The place was beautiful, the service was five star, and the pool very relaxing. We would definitely come back and stay with them again. Oh and breakfast every morning was sooo yummy from the pancakes to the veggie omelette to the fruit salad...thx again guys!!

  • We stayed in the Shikumen suit which was a beautiful big room with a really comfortable bed. The room looks and feels amazing upon entering, but functionality isn't great. The t.v. needed fixing (first the cable then remote), the lights were flashing and needed fixing. It rained quite a lot during our stay so the smell coming up through the drain in the shower was unpleasant (although maybe this is quite common in most places in Bali). The taps spray water everywhere too. It was very noisy at nighttime until 2-3am with local nightclubs.
The pool was really beautiful and the staff were really lovely. The massage that was included was fantastic.

Theatre Set and Costume Designer, Production Manager, Teacher and other random stuff.
We have lived in Bali now for 6 years having moved here from Australia in 2007 with our youngest son. In Australia, my husband Grahame was a highly acclaimed Theatre Director and Writer whilst I was a successful Theatre Set and Costume Designer, Tour Manager and Producer among other things. Having reached the peak in our respective careers and with our eldest son married and living in Sydney, it was time for a new adventure, a new life and a new challenge. We thought we had renovated our dream home in Fremantle and I had my dream job as Cultural Development Officer for the City of Fremantle. But then we had another dream. I was suddenly offered a job to teach at a school in Bali so we leaped at the opportunity and packed and moved to Bali with 6 weeks notice to the surprise of friends and family. We were ready to immerse ourselves into a new culture whilst at the same time we hoped to indulge in some of the delights this tropical island has to offer. We built our Bali dream home and that was meant to be that. Our plan wasn't to end up working in the hospitality industry running a small boutique hotel but that is what we have ended up doing. As a professional set designer I feel like I have set the stage again, but this time it is for a tropical holiday for our guests to indulge all of their senses in the sights, sounds, tastes and tropical delights this beautiful island has to offer. Grahame on the other hand is still directing and writing, but now he is directing numerous workers, housekeepers, cooks, gardeners, tradesmen and maintenance people in the task of providing a relaxing tropical holiday so that this time your dream can come true. The photo I've chosen is from when we were trekking in the North Sumatra jungle in May 2013. It was our return visit after our first visit 22 years ago, when we went there to make a play about Orangutans called "Visiting the Relatives". The first time we were there we had our first son with us who was 12 at the time. Strange but true to say, on our second visit we had our 2nd son with us who was also 12 years old at the time. And that's also how long we've been coming and going to Bali. We feel very fortunate to be able to call Bali home and join our Bali friends and family in welcoming you to this special island.
