Drift San Jose is located in the heart of San Jose del Cabo's Art District, only one block from the cathedral and main plaza. San Jose is a traditional Mexican colonial town - with a contemporary gallery, live music and food scene. Famous for the Thursday night Art Walk and Saturday morning Organic Farmers Market. We are central to the best restaurants, bars, shops, galleries and cafes. A nearby trail follows the estuary and bird sanctuary, ending at the beach approx 20 minutes away.
We are perfectly situated for real Baja adventure. Explore the desert, mountains, ranches and miles of beautiful empty beaches. Popular day trips include the East Cape for surfing (30 min), Santiago for hiking, hot springs and waterfall (45 min) Todos Santos for surfing and great organic food scene (60 min), Cabo Pulmo for world class diving (90 min), Las Ventanas for kite surfing (2 hours) or La Paz to visit the spectacular Balandra Bay or Isla Espiritu Santo for kayaking or swimming with whale sharks (2 hours).
Popular nearby beaches accessible by taxi, car or bus are the beach at Ganzo Beach Club (5 min), La Playita (10 min), Costa Azul for surfing (15 min), Palmilla for swimming or SUP (15 min), Chileno for swimming or snorkeling (20 min), Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas (30 min).
San Jose del Cabo is in the municipality of Los Cabos, 20 minutes south of Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and 30 minutes East of the city of Cabo San Lucas.
-TAXIS can always be found downtown, usually in the main plaza, in front of the Cathedral, 1.5 block from Drift. From the airport there are both Taxis (approx $65) and shuttles (approx $15 per person) available to bring you downtown San Jose. Return fare back to the airport by taxi is approximately $20.
-RENTAL CARS can be found at the airport or or various rental agencies in San Jose. We recommend our guests rent a car or 4x4 if they want to explore the many beaches and sites outside of downtown San Jose. We like National Rental Car (office located two blocks from Drift) and have asked them to offer our guests a special all-in package rate including taxes and insurance if they mention they are staying at Drift. This rate depends on type of car and time of year and we cannot guarantee this rate or offer any other information in regards to renting a car.
-BUSES many of our guests have great luck getting around by the many different buses in and around San Jose. We do not have specific or detailed information, schedules or routes for the buses.

My wife and I went for a relaxing vacation to San Jose del Cabo, and we had a great experience at Drift. The staff was incredibly helpful. The facilities were exactly as described and very clean. Hotel is designed well to offer the ability for guest to interact while having your own privacy. Owner was helpful with providing suggestions. Would attempt to get an upstairs room because it allows you to keep the window open while you're gone so the room cools off by the time you return. Overall would recommend to my family and friends.
This place is a gem of a find. It's not really well known by the locals, so it's a little off the map, but at the same time a very central location in San Jose. Many restaurants and great shopping are located within a couple minute walk. The place itself is simple and very comfortable, but also classy. It's great to hang out at the pool, or the fire, the rooms are perfectly sized, and the kitchen is big and accommodating for all of the guests, plus a great way to meet the other awesome people that this place attracts. The hosts are very warm, easy going and also very helpful. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone who visits this town, and would surely stay here again if the opportunity arose.
My friend and I stayed here for a couple of days and LOVED it! The minimalist decor, comfortable furniture and bed, and many common spaces for hanging out with others or just reading a good book was just what we needed. The big resorts on our beach just weren't what we were looking for and after driving by those, we were so relieved when we walked into Drift! They have a common space kitchen with a map of all of their recommendations for dinner and things to do drawn on a black board. You can get food at the market and leave it in your bin in the kitchen and in the fridge, so you don't have to spend money eating out for every meal. It's on the north edge of the old city, but everything is walkable. We even walked to the beach, which is about a mile away, but hey, we're on vacation and schedule! Both Angel, the host and Stu, the owner were gracious hosts, happy to share their knowledge of the area. Thursday night is the art walk in the old city and saturday morning is the farmer's market, so be sure to check out both! I would totally stay here again if I find myself in San Jose again. A great buy for the money, yet you feel like you are staying at a chic boutique hotel.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Drift very much indeed. The staff, including Stu (the manager, I believe) were all very friendly and helpful. It is most imaginative of whoever conceived and was responsible for seeing this project through. CONS:The floors being polished concrete can be slippery when wet, and the lighting in the rooms is more artistically attractive than functional PROS:Overall ambience, friendliness of everyone, prompt communication and a very welcoming kitchen (which includes complimentary and very good coffee, plus squeeze-your-own orange juice). All remarkably spacious for a downtown location on such a small footprint.
This place was exactly what I imagined and more. The staff at Drift was so friendly and they could not have made us feel more welcome. Our room was appointed well, spacious and crisp. The shared spaces were organized and meticulous. The atmosphere at Drift was so peaceful. We were close to all the main attractions, necessities and roadways while also giving us the distance to relax and "drift" had we decided to do nothing at all. Our host made a map of the area with a "bucket" list on his wall that made it so much easier than flipping through a travel guide when planning our days. We tried as many as we could and they were all extraordinary!
A wonderful space with a wonderful host. It's a great place to relax in the sun. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. There's also a continuously-updated hand-drawn map in the hotel kitchen of nearby things to do in case you're ever bored. The rooms are very true to their minimalist intent.
This was the most perfect place for me to stay. The room was stylish, simple, and cozy; the community kitchen was convenient, clean, and a great place to catch up with other Drifters. The host and staff were fun, easygoing, and incredibly helpful with suggestions. Drift is located in the heart of the historic arts district and nearby numerous local & delicious restaurants. It's also nearby lots of small, cool towns--perfect for day trips!
