The flat has been my home for 20 years. I love the tenement style: big rooms, high ceilings and large windows. Everything is built for comfort: big sofas; large, nicely decorated rooms with high ceilings; and spacious, with no clutter. Wi-Fi is included for your use as well.
The neighbourhood is perfectly located. Kelvingrove Park, Botanic Gardens, Kelvingrove Museum, excellent local bars and restaurants are all a short walk away.
The living room has comfortable sofas to relax on, Sky TV, Apple TV, Netflix, DVD player, hi-fi with iPod doc, turntable, CDs and LPs, board games and books for your use.
The fully equipped kitchen has an electric cooker, large fridge freezer, combi-microwave oven, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, Dualit toaster, and Panini press. Pots and pans are mainly Le Creuset. There is also a Bose iPod doc for your use. The kitchen table seats up to six people. Gas central heating provides instant hot water.
If you don’t want to spend your time away cooking, then one of the best curries in Glasgow can be found at the Shish Mahal, two minutes walk from the flat.
Both bedrooms contain comfortable double beds and ample storage space for your clothes. A further single blowup mattress is also available if required.
The bathroom contains a large double sized shower with electric shower. Shampoo, shower gel, and toothpaste are provided, along with plenty of towels.
Guests will have access to the entire flat that is situated on the second floor of a tenement block. Our personal belongings are stored away in the hall cupboard for the duration of your stay.
Interaction with Guests
We're delighted to offer advice on where to go in Glasgow both prior to and during your stay. We will check you in on arrival and show you round the flat (if we are away, a friend will do this). We are also contactable during your stay.
We, like you, have used AirBNB as guests, so want to ensure you have an excellent time during your stay in our home, therefore if there’s anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable, please let us know and we will try our best to accommodate you.
The neighbourhood is perfectly located. Kelvingrove Park, Botanic Gardens, Kelvingrove Museum, excellent local cafes, bars and restaurants are all a short walk away. We tend to eat and drink locally, rather than go in to the city centre.
Check out my Guidebook for some suggestions.
Glasgow is a very walkable city; the flat is well placed to do that as it’s within walking distance of the city centre and West End attractions. One of our favourite walks is along the River Kelvin, which can be found 5 minutes from the flat.
If you don’t like the idea of walking into the City Centre, then Kelvinbridge Subway is a 5 minute walk away. Journey time into the city is approximately 7 minutes. £1.60 single/£3.00 return/£4.00 day ticket.
The flat is a couple of minutes walk to bus stops on both Woodlands Road and Great Western Road. Cost of a single ticket into the city is £1.90. Return and day tickets are also available; prices depend on which areas you will be travelling to.
The flat is easy to find from the M8 motorway and is approximately 20 minutes drive from the airport, dependent on the traffic. There is on street parking available, which is subject to metered parking from 8am to 10pm. We can provide you with parking vouchers that cost £2 per 6-hour window (£6/day) to save hassle/money. Just let us know if you require these vouchers prior to your visit and we can leave them for you.
If you're keen to hire a car, we tend to use Enterprise or Hertz, best to book online in advance.
Glasgow now has bikes for rent dotted all around the city. The nearest rank to the flat is less than 10 minutes walk.
Other Things to Note
We try to be as flexible as possible regarding check-in, so please let us know as soon as you can when you expect to arrive; we will normally be able to accommodate your request. Check out on the day of departure is usually 12 noon, but if we do not have guests arriving that day, this can be flexible as well. Again just let us know and we will do our best to help.
Feel free to use all the apartment appliances; manuals have been left for most of them, but we are contactable during your stay if you need help/advice.
We are very laid back, and insist you put your feet up on the couches or living room table when watching TV with a glass of wine.
Our neighbours are quiet; therefore the flat isn't suitable for late night parties!
Finally: have a wonderful time in your home away from home.
We stayed here for two days before returning to Australia after a three week trip to see family and friends. We were weary, sick of being cramped into family rooms in hotels (family of four) and in need of some home comforts. This flat was exactly what we needed and let us spread out a bit and relax in a lovely home like environment. There was some confusion around our arrival as airbnb weren't forwarding our emails as they advise, but as soon as we noticed the problem Alistair and Iain bent over backwards to get someone to meet us with keys. The flat is clean and well kept/maintained, but is like a normal Glasgow tenement flat, so if you are looking for shiny and new this is not it. However if you want to feel that you are staying with a friend who has just popped out then you are in the right place. The flat is in a great location with nice bars and restaurants etc within walking distance and a ten minute walk/ underground to the city, or a five min cab ride. Lots of entertainment in terms of Apple TV, wifi, music, but didn't get a chance to make use of any of it sadly. Loved it, and would definitely stay again.
Great part of Glasgow. Lovely comfortable apartment. Lots of useful bit an pieces to make us feel at home:
This property was in an excellent location for visiting the University of Glasgow and West End. My teenage daughter and ten year old son give the property two thumbs way up for its selection of music, videos and games and said it should get "six stars". The flat was clean, comfortable and spacious for our family of four. It was a nice touch that Alasdair left a bottle of wine and tea cakes for us.
Communication with Alasdair was perfect because although he wasn't around the time that we stayed arrangements were made for his friend to meet us at the flat. It all worked out really well and we were immediately made welcome. The location was very handy and we loved the neighbourhood - everywhere we went in the locality we were met with friendship and helpfulness. The flat itself is light, airy and well appointed with every facility that you could possibly need. Soooo much nicer than staying in some soulless hotel!Thank you, Alasdair for letting us stay in your home.
We were met by Alasdair's friend who provided us with the key, visitors parking permits and gave a tour of the flat. The flat is in a great central location and the flat itself was warmly decorated and had everything we could need. All the rooms were very clean and we had a great stay there.
We had a lovely few days in Alasdair's flat. The flat is in a great area for sightseeing, and was both warm and quiet. A great place to spend a chilly February half term. All rooms were well furnished, and the kitchen was extremely well equipped. Many thanks!
We enjoyed our stay in the flat and were made to feel very welcome. The flat is located close to the tube station in the West End of Glasgow with lots of cafes, delis, restaurants, pubs and shops nearby. We spent quite a bit of time in the flat as it felt like a home from home. The kids enjoyed the dvd collection while the adults enjoyed listening to some vinyl records on the excellent stereo system. We cooked in the flat and used most of the facilities which were excellent. We couldn't have asked for anything more from our hosts really. The boiler failed just before our visit but Alasdair went out of his way to bring in some temporary heaters which meant the flat was warm and cosy. The wine and teacakes were also a nice touch which were appreciated after a long journey. All in all a fantastic stay in a lovely part of Glasgow
Alasdair.. I'm originally from the Outer Hebrides, but have been in Glasgow since 1991 (apart from a 5 year jaunt to London). I like going out for coffee, food or drinks with friends, cinema and theatre. My favourite travel destinations are Palma and Sydney, I travel to London and the Hebrides a few times a year.
Iain.. Originally from Kilmarnock, just outside Glasgow. I've also spent most of my life in the city. I enjoy photography, music and travel. I love Paris and Sydney.
We love living where we do - the location is ideal - the park, great bars and restaurants and close to the city centre. We're fairly minimalist which means we don't do lots of clutter - that also makes it easier for visitors to make the flat their home for the duration rather than just squeeze stuff in for a week or so. When we travel we like to live as a local, so we much prefer destinations where we know people and can live in a neighbourhood rather than a hotel or hostel.
