In addition to the cozy fireplace, there are mini-splits for heat and AC in living room and bedroom! Restored vintage cabin with re-claimed cedar logs. Deck, gourmet kitchen, stone fireplace, beautifully furnished, sparkling clean. Smart TV, high speed internet. Four Seasons of Beauty. Family friendly, romantic getaway.
Quite, peaceful neighborhood.

The space
Charming, cozy, comfortable and very clean. The perfect definition of "Cabin". Best for a family of four with all sleeping upstairs; a queen in the bedroom and twin mattresses, up a ramp, on the floor of the loft. Children love the loft but an adult can not stand up. Please note we have lots of stairs and only one bathroom on the living and kitchen level. Night lights on the stairs for after-dark visits.
Many wonderful Five Star, reviews waiting for you. Cabin Fever is so close to all that San Diego or Orange County have to offer but so far from the stress of the cities! We also have had many guests from around the world! England, Ireland, New Zealand, Japan and many repeats including our first guest now booked for the 15th time!
Come on up and enjoy Cabin Fever, you'll love it here. That's a promise!

Guest access
The cabin is all yours and very family friendly. Do you have young children? They will love the loft and toys, and you might appreciate the Pack and Play, baby gates, high chair, DVD's, books, and even a s'mores maker for kids of all ages.

Other things to note
We do have special rates for holidays including 3 day weekends. Over holidays we have a 3 or 4 night minimum stay.

We are an hour from the nearest market and the closest restaurant is 25 minutes away. Most guests bring all their own food for their stay.

Take advantage of several walkable fieldtrips. Visit a farm with chickens, goats, sheep and have eggs, goat cheese, yarn in their loom room and warm smiles. Another interesting neighbor imports and roasts organic coffee. Some folks tell us they return just to buy more coffee or fresh goat cheese!

Like to hike? Miles of trails available with amazing views. If you'd like to fish Doane Pond, you'll need a license. They are available at Lake Henshaw where you can also go out in a boat. We have a link available to you of lots of fun things to do from Cabin Fever, plus cabin tips and info when you book your vacation at Cabin Fever.

Neighborhood highlights

Palomar Mountain is a lifestyle. We often think our time on Palomar as something that folks experienced about 100 years ago. Friendly neighbors, the scent of a wood burning fireplace in the winter, dinner on the stove, sharing dinner and game night with family and friends, hiking in the forest, gazing at the amazing stars in our clear sky, and seeing deer and wild turkeys roam through our land. Things can change very quickly with high speed internet and all the modern luxuries. At Cabin Fever you have the best of both worlds!

Nathan Phelps grew up with fond memories visiting Palomar each winter for fun in the snow. His parents lived on the mountain in the mid 70s, sold their house, then bought it back 20 years later. Now, full time since 1998 there are always fun times on the mountain. In 2011, Nathan was living in San Diego investing in Fix and Flips when he happened on this fixer cabin. He just had to have it - but not to flip. He plans to keep Cabin Fever forever as a rental to share with folks like you! Nate's mom, Bonnie Phelps, has been the 'Resident Realtor' on Palomar since the beginning of the Century. All communication will be with Bonnie as she enjoys managing the cabin and sharing the mountain with our guests. Nathan's brother and sister-in-law purchased a ranch next door to his folks to raise their four kids up here. So, Nathan couldn't resist, sold his place in San Diego and also moved up full time fall of 2016. The cabin really needed someone to breath in new life. It was a very tired, very abused fixer. The floor was bowed and you couldn't get the door open. That wasn't a problem since you could just step in through the big, broken window. Nate saw the vision to create something wonderful. After completely gutting and restoring from the foundation to the roof, it's all brand new. This is the first property that Nathan acquired with no intention of ever selling. A huge bonus is that there is another fixer cabin on the same property. Already named 'Shady Oaks', it is presently used for storage, patiently waiting for him to wave his magic wand again. Please stay tuned! Eventually the goal is to have two very unique cabins available for larger groups. Be assured that no construction will happen during your visit. That's a promise! Another reason he could not resist owning these two little diamonds-in-the-rough, was the access. It is great to have such good parking when we are treated to a Winter Wonderland. The property also has some wonderful oaks, firs and cedars with a couple big boulders peppered around the land. There is an amazing chorus of birds to enjoy from the deck. His initial goal of creating a 'Vintage, Modern Cabin' has paid off and is appreciated by all. You have the comforts of home, with the vintage touches that remind many of fond visits to Grandparent's homes in days gone by. Folks also have fun seeing the 'Before and After' photos in the Welcome Book, of the progress creating this charming cabin with new additions all the time. Ah, Cabin Fever is very special! The mountain is a family affair and we invite you to experience this beautiful area for yourself, too! We hope to have you as guests, and invite you to share this link with your friends! Thank you so much!
