Garden view

Soak up the view during your stay.
La Casita is a hidden gem that is steps to Playa Carbonera and just minutes from the beaches of Cabo Matapalo. It can accommodate up to 5 guests. The main bedroom has a king size bed, the second bedroom has two single beds and there is a sofa bed in the living room. The kitchen and living room are an open floor plan with great WiFi. This home was built for cool airflow and has been heavily planted for privacy and wildlife viewing. This home is a pleasure for long stays and remote work.

The space
The house was designed to be open air during the day and closed down when you go to sleep. There are accordion doors in the living room that opens out to a beautiful hardwood deck and the kitchen has accordion windows that open over a breakfast bar/dining area. There is a built in corner couch on the deck in the dining area that adds for extra social and lounging areas. The bathroom is well designed and has a custom indoor/outdoor shower. Wildlife viewing is abundant right from the hammocks on the deck.

Guest access
Guests have access to a large lockable closet in the main area as well as a safe for valuables.

Other things to note
All groceries, banking and gas stations are located in the town of Puerto Jimenez. Puerto Jimenez is 16 km from this area, which can be a 30-60 minute drive depending on the road. It is best to arrive with all needed groceries for at least 4 days of your stay. I recommend arriving during the daylight hours to get a good feel for the area. The house has clean drinking water provided. WiFi was upgraded last year to the best system available in the area. This house is on the same property as Casa Mil Flores. Both houses could be rented together to accommodate larger groups. As of 2023 we also have expanded to the back property with two additional units. All houses have separate entrances. Also... please note that the wildlife is abundant here. Better put your food in closed cabinets or the refrigerator as the animals may come to see what ripe fruits and veggies you have left on the counters. Please do not feed the animals.

Where you’ll be

Matapalo, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

The Carbonera neighborhood is a little hub of the Matapalo area. We have the school, the bus stop and the only local bar/restaurant. It also boasts the mouth of the Carbonera river, which is a cool spot to lounge in fresh water during the mid day. Martinas bar is a located 100m from this home and can be quite convenient for a quick bite for lunch. Friday nights there is a local market and it is the main night of the week for dancing and dj's. Typically there is a Friday night community gathering and dance party that can go until 12- 12:30am. This can be a loud night heard from the house but it’s the only night of the week like this.

My work: Property Management
I spend too much time: online
My name is Michelle Large. My passion for the ocean started at a young age at the Jersey shore on family vacations. It took a great leap when I moved to California when I was 20 years old and immediately started surfing. A few years later, I decided to travel to Costa Rica on a solo surf trip and that was the beginning of a new chapter of my life. I stayed in the Peninsula de Osa for 5 years full time during the late 90's before moving back to California to finish my studies. My passions include surfing, traveling, yoga, fitness, cooking, painting, fishing and gardening. I speak both english and spanish. I divide my time between California and Costa Rica. I love to travel to new places and meet new people. I used to be more of a rustic traveler, but that has refined with age. In my opinion, traveling is anywhere that is new and interesting. It does not necessarily have to be going to the other end of the earth...although I like that too.
