Interaction with Guests
We interact a great deal with our guests, often sharing breakfast time & offering expert advice on visiting this region. Sharing evening meals with guests, especially if they have a recipe new to us, is becoming a tradition here ~ especially when the garden is ripe!
Kanab, the "heart of the National Parks", is an authentic Western Legends town ~ a pioneer community surrounded by fabulous red rock buttes & hiking trails. From our quiet home, guests can walk into town for dinner, to see a classic Western movie at "The Barn" (where the Lone Ranger actually did stable his famous horse 'Silver' during filming) & for other pleasures. It's a small, friendly town & the stars at night here are considered some of the brightest and best in the world.
Kanab has the best outdoor adventure guides in Southern Utah. Canyoneering, horse treks, pictograph or photography tours ~ we know every guide and are happy to help guests set up special adventures.
Walk, ride a horse, bicycle or drive.
Other Things to Note
We enjoy pets and have a big fenced-in dog-friendly yard your dog can share with our friendly Doggie Co-Hostess, SNUFFLES. Guest pets must be dog & cat-friendly. We need to charge a slight $15
extra fee and do
ask guests to clean-up before leaving. Following a recent incident, we are breed specific now so guests must contact the Host before arriving with dogs.
No smoking in the house, there is a garden & deck for those who need it.
Check-in after 3PM & before 9 PM ; call to confirm any delays (many guests under-estimate travel time so we are pretty flexible).
Please be aware that Utah and Arizona are on different times for 3/4 of the year. Arizona does NOT go on Day Light Savings Time and is therefore an hour behind Utah Time. So if you are coming from Vegas, Flagstaff or Sedona be aware you will lose an hour. Thank You.
We cannot praise Savage Point highly enough. Laurel, Russell and Snuffles were all incredibly welcoming and we had such a wonderful relaxing stay. The room was down in the basement with its own entrance, private bathroom and TV room and access to laundry facilities. Exactly the right balance of privacy and sociability to make us feel right at home. Laurel knows so much about the area and recommended us a fantastic restaurant (Rocking V) for dinner, and plenty of suggestions for exploring off the beaten track. Easy to access both Zion and Bryce national parks.
We felt very welcomed by Laurel and her husband. Both are great hosts who made our stay (4 nights) in Kanab unforgettable! We really enjoyed the surrounding area of Kanab and also the nice breakfast which was provided in the morning! If you are looking for a charming and unique location within beautiful nature- we definitively recommend staying at this B&B.
Laurel made me feel totally welcome, and was warm and friendly in all our interactions. (Russell was working at one of the parks, so we didn't meet.) The little town is a way-point en route to several area parks, but was adequate for groceries, etc. Her breakfasts were worthy of up-scale diners...delicious, filling, and healthy. Cleanliness, comfort, privacy, and convenience were all superior. Thank you, Laurel!
Laurel was great! The accommodations were nice, the backyard/garden is beautiful, and the breakfast was superb!
Laurel is a great host. And the house and garden a little paradise. I can confirm all the other super feedback. will show up soon when we can make it. Thanks Laurel
Wonderful place!! Close to tons of national parks and cool places to check out! Laurel made her home welcoming and comfortable to my friend and me. We enjoyed having delicious breakfast in the morning with laurel because the conversation never disappointed! Laurel also had great suggestions and tips about the attractions in the area. Snuffles was a huge bonus to an already great place to stay!!!! Thanks:)
About the Host, Laurel
After living in Southern Utah for 4 years I still have so much more exploring to do here in this incredible region. Originally came from Northern California, miss the ocean and running thru the woodlands and coastal trails but the the science, geology, landscapes and everything else about the High Desert continually fascinates me now. Personally; I am a researcher/writer/ art historian and have worked in South America, Europe, Northern & South Africa, Greece & Turkey. I like to paint, hike, read, am a movie buff and enjoy our ever expanding garden (a couple from Moscow just proudly posed for photos holding our 22" Armenian cucumbers!) and most certainly our animals (the 3 audacious cats, a toss-me-on-my-belly-for -scritches adoring Cairn Terrier and our little Budgie Bird "Cloud"). Oriiginally fell in love with this region after rowing a 2-man dory down the Colorado River through Grand Canyon, followed that amazing venture by running Rim-to-Rim (26 miles) across the Grand Canyon - twice. Now, the Pioneer culture, art, literature, hiking and enjoying SW Utah/the Colorado Plateau still fascinates.
Russell and I enjoy meeting new people, sharing social and environmental philosophies and life experience. Russell was a Rock Musician in LA and abroad for 20 years, taught in a Music Conservatory in Helsinki, Finland and now in a certain shift of life, is a Park Ranger with Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. He knows both the Back Country and the paleontology of GSENM and other regional National Parks. We both definitely enjoy the cultural diversity of our guests and look forward to helping our guests enjoy their stay in the SouthWest.
