Interaction with Guests
We interact a great deal with our guests, often sharing breakfast time & offering expert advice on visiting this region. Sharing evening meals with guests, especially if they have a recipe new to us, is becoming a tradition here ~ especially when the garden is ripe!
Kanab, the "heart of the National Parks", is an authentic Western Legends town ~ a pioneer community surrounded by fabulous red rock buttes & hiking trails. From our quiet home, guests can walk into town for dinner, to see a classic Western movie at "The Barn" (where the Lone Ranger actually did stable his famous horse 'Silver' during filming) & for other pleasures. It's a small, friendly town & the stars at night here are considered some of the brightest and best in the world.
Kanab has the best outdoor adventure guides in Southern Utah. Canyoneering, horse treks, pictograph or photography tours ~ we know every guide and are happy to help guests set up special adventures.
Walk, ride a horse, bicycle or drive.
Other Things to Note
We enjoy pets and have a big fenced-in dog-friendly yard your dog can share with our friendly Doggie Co-Hostess, SNUFFLES. Guest pets must be dog & cat-friendly. We don't charge an extra fee but ask guests to clean-up before leaving.
No smoking in the house, there is a garden & deck for those who need it.
Check-in must be after 3PM & before 9 PM ; call to confirm any delays (many guests under-estimate travel time so we are pretty flexible).
Please be aware that Utah and Arizona are on different times for 3/4 of the year. Arizona does NOT go on Day Light Savings Time and is therefore an hour behind Utah Time. So if you are coming from Vegas, Flagstaff or Sedona be aware you will lose an hour. Thank You.
This is the best deal going in Kanab. Clean room, comfortable bed and quiet surroundings. When you add Laurel's healthy and tasty breakfast, it can't be beat. Because Kanab is a halfway point in a trip I make on a regular basis I stay at Savage Point B&B often. Though I have lost count of the number of times I have stayed here, I will never forget the hospitality Laurel and Russell have shown me over that time. My most recent stay was no exception. I had made my reservation but had to change it at the last minute because of a sudden illness. Laurel was most gracious in moving my reservation to a different night. A simple phone call and all was fixed.
Super spacious home away from home. Everything was great especially the lit up fireplace after a long day of hiking, the healthy breakfast to get you started in the morning and the movie night I shared with Laurel and Russel. Highly recommended. Everything was as described.
Staying with Laurel & Russell is a perfect choice! They have all of the warmth, hospitality, and knowledge you could ever wish for, and they're perfectly situated between the most gorgeous parks in all of the land.
We loved our stay with Laurel. The home is warm and welcoming, and she even put fresh flowers on the dresser. The bedroom is cozy and comfortable, and the "living room" area has a large flat screen TV. The yard is beautiful and relaxing, with flowering fruit trees and a small meandering stream. We especially loved Laurel's adorable dog, Snuffles, who was our buddy during our stay. Laurel also makes very yummy breakfasts each day.
My son and I loved our stay at Laurel's warm, cozy, beautiful home. We felt so welcomed, both by Laurel and her amazingly cute doggie Snuffles. We had everything we needed to feel at home and comfortable. Perfect location, yummy breakfasts! Hope to return
Laurel is a wonderful host. She prepared us a very nice breakfast. The bedroom is downstairs with a large adjoining family room for use by the guests with own entrance exit. Very quiet with large backyard and garden and Finnish sauna.
A wonderful experience! Laurel greeted us warmly with her super cool dog, Snuffles. I felt welcomed and comfortable right away. She was more than accommodating and had excellent recommendations for exploring. Her home was enchanting, and the room we stayed in was extremely comfortable. I can't wait to return for a longer stay.
After living in Southern Utah for 4 years I still have so much more exploring to do here in this incredible region. Originally came from Northern California, miss the ocean and running thru the woodlands and coastal trails but the the science, geology, landscapes and everything else about the High Desert continually fascinates me now. Personally; I am a researcher/writer/ art historian and have worked in South America, Europe, Northern & South Africa, Greece & Turkey. I like to paint, hike, read, am a movie buff and enjoy our ever expanding garden (a couple from Moscow just proudly posed for photos holding our 22" Armenian cucumbers!) and most certainly our animals (the 3 audacious cats, a toss-me-on-my-belly-for -scritches adoring Cairn Terrier and our little Budgie Bird "Cloud"). Oriiginally fell in love with this region after rowing a 2-man dory down the Colorado River through Grand Canyon, followed that amazing venture by running Rim-to-Rim (26 miles) across the Grand Canyon - twice. Now, the Pioneer culture, art, literature, hiking and enjoying SW Utah/the Colorado Plateau still fascinates.
Russell and I enjoy meeting new people, sharing social and environmental philosophies and life experience. Russell was a Rock Musician in LA and abroad for 20 years, taught in a Music Conservatory in Helsinki, Finland and now in a certain shift of life, is a Park Ranger with Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. He knows both the Back Country and the paleontology of GSENM and other regional National Parks. We both definitely enjoy the cultural diversity of our guests and look forward to helping our guests enjoy their stay in the SouthWest.
