Chateau de Barbirey is truly magnificent and my hosts, JB and Veronique, were lovely and very accommodating.
I was picked up in Dijon by Joachim Schaefer from Bourgogne A La Carte who is fantastic and gave me a wonderful lesson on Cote D'Or and helped increase my Bourgogne wine knowledge.
I needed an early check-in and whilst my room could not be available at my arrival time, I was able to leave my bags in another area and begin my exploring of the Jardins de Barbirey.
Not realising there are no shops or even a patisserie in town, I had not brought any food with me and I did not have transport to go elsewhere to get anything. However, JB introduced me to the lovely owner of the French Irish restaurant across the little cobblestone street, where I had dinner that night and purchased a meal to take back to the Chateau for my dinner the following night.
JB and his family invited me to have a glass of Pinot Noir with them that night and checked in on me throughout my stay to make sure I was enjoying myself.
It is such a beautiful property and I had the amazing French country-side experience I was looking for. It is so peaceful and the gardens are incredible.
I would love to return and stay for longer.
A really lovely room and a beautiful garden to walk in. We just had a few hours to spend at Barbirey-sur-Ouche but they were great!
Veronique was very welcoming and advised us how to enjoy the garden the most :)
We had the good fortune of spending three lovely days at the chateau during off-season. The entire home and surrounding grounds were ours for our stay. It was a perfect city getaway - made all the more special thanks to Joachim. Every morning we would wake to a sweet candle-lit breakfast of tea/coffee, croissants, jams, and meats. And in the evenings we would return from wine tasting to a crackling fire. We couldn't have been more pleased with our experience.
We stayed in this castle for one night as a stopover, on our way to the Provence.
We found this castle to be exactly as we had expected from the Airbnb listing.
I fully agree with the other reviews, this is indeed a wonderful place, with green and beautiful gardens and views.
The host was very friendly and very attentive, helping us with the typical things you need for a little child, helping us with a parking spot for our car and more. We didn't have to ask for anything!
We were upgraded to the Family room at arrival, which was very clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view. Bathroom with separate shower and tub, all in ancient style, while functioning perfectly with all comfort of today.
Despite this being an historical building with the typical sounds that go with old squeaky floors and stairs, the night was absolutely quiet, and even in the morning we did not hear sounds of others (there were 2 or 3 other families staying in the castle as well). But then maybe we were the first ones to wake up :-)
Breakfast was typically french, croissants, bread, coffee etc. and again great service by the host, having prepared a baby chair and cereals for our little one. Price was already included in the total fee.
All in all I think it was certainly value for money (without taking the upgrade into account) and we hope to stay here again in the future!
A most exquisite setting for a romantic, relaxing weekend. The hosts went to great lengths to make sure every need was met!
We had a fabulous stay at the Barbery Chateau. Jean-Bernard was a great host and made our honeymoon special and helped with many suggestions of places to see while in bourgougne. I would suggest this place to anyone travelling in bourgougne. One of the highlights of our time for sure.
A fantastic stay. The chateau is in the most amazing 8 hectares of gardens, which we wandered around all afternoon. The owners and staff were so friendly and gave us great recommendations of places to see and things to do. The room was big and comfortable and the breakfast was lovely. Only 30 mins from beaune made it the perfect location, Merci!

Hi, we are JB and Veronique, the owners of the chateau de Barbirey. "Barbirey" is overall, a family story, that's why every one participate and try to involve in it.
Jean-Bernard, use to be vice president of an american software company, but he recently shared his computer for an apron, strongly helped by her dear wife, Veronique, who is more involved in the garden part of the domain.
Our son Colas is helping us with all of the communications and marketing things. By chance you would meet our 2 little daugters Adélie and Filipine, who study in Barcelona and Paris.
