La Fortuna is an enjoyable experience for all , with flowing rivers, natural hot springs, waterfalls, the 33 mile fresh water Lake Arenal, Cerro Chatto Crater Lake , butterfly gardens and a large variety of amenities. The many vacationers who find the Pure Vida return home feeling satisfied and relaxed.
Visitors can get to Fortuna by Bus, Car or Plane. The road from both of Costa Rica’s airports are paved, well marked and scenic. The plane is a 12 passenger that flies low allowing you to see Costa Rica’s beautiful landscapes; sit back and enjoy the many waterfalls, rivers and volcanoes.
The Arenal Volcano has its own National Park (Parque National Vulcan Arenal)
This almost 30,000 acre national park allows visitors to get an even better understanding of the Arenal Volcano and a much closer look. The Flora and fauna found it this primary rain forest is some of the newest on earth.
There are plenty of nature hikes in the area; the one I highly recommend is the climb to Cerro Chatto Lake. Vulcan Chatto is a dormant volcano; its crater is filled from hundreds of year of rain fall. It is an intense uphill hike to over 3,500 feet but I assure you it is worth every step of the way. Park hours are from 8am to 5pm
The La Fortuna Waterfall is another one of Mother Nature’s tours. Take a short 4klm hike from La Fortuna and you will be standing up top of the 230 foot waterfall. Gaze upon the power of water as it rolls of and dumps into the fresh rejuvenating pools bellow. Hike down the base to the pools to recharge, relax and take some photos. Waterfalls are open from 8-5pm
La Fortuna and all the amenities anyone could need is a 15 minute walk or 2 minute cab ride from the cabins.

After reading the reviews, we rented three of the cabinas for a stay with my family. The cabins provide a very rustic and authentic experience. We were only there for one night, which I think was enough for all of us. Just a little too rustic for us. Of the three cabins, we stayed in, I would only go back to one of them. It was clean, had a great living space and kitchen area, and was comfortable. In the other two cabins we woke up to animal droppings, and a smelly toilet. To be fair, only being there one night, we didn't address these things with the host. Had we done so, I am sure they would have figured out a resolution.
On the plus side, Felix, the owner, was great and helpful. The grounds of the cabinas are beautiful, and the breakfast was amazing. One of the members of our party was sick, and Felix even picked some leaves off a plant that would help her feel better.
Cabinas La Catarata was a great place to stay, I would definitely recommend it. It is right across the street from a very entertaining chocolate tour (which I recommend as well) and down the street from the waterfall walk and the property has a view of Arenal. You get your own cabin, good sized, nice kitchen, great living room, and a good sized bed room. The property also has a river running in the back, which I really enjoyed too. I definitely recommend it.
Although a little difficult to find, the Cabinas were comfortable for our one night stay in La Fortuna. We ended up with a really large space that could sleep up to 8, when it just me and my husband. The cabina was sparse, but clean. It's the perfect place if you're looking for a cheap, easy accommodations. It was a little difficult communicating with the host, who only spoke Spanish. We were unable to get wifi, but were provided a really delicious breakfast in the morning.
I wish I had known of your inquiries, I inform all guest that I am the host and that I do speak English; this can be found throughout my AirBnB profile.
A private message is also sent after reservation confirmation explaining this as well as providing detailed directions to my office in La Fortuna so I can meet guest, provide them with directions to the cabins and information of the activities and the area. After living at the cabins for 4 years I wanted to help Felix who became family. AirBnB, a great relation to the place and Felix as well as 8 years experience in Costa Rica tourism makes this work, to any one reading this please contact me with any inquires, I am here to help, Jonathan Turcotte. Owner Operator, Paradise Adventures Costa Rica and your host for Cabinas La Catarata.
It was a nice cabin in a beautiful location. We enjoyed our stay. There was some confusion on check in with the owner of the cabin but Jonathan was easy to contact for clarification. We would stay again!
We´ve stayed at la cabinas for three nights and had a wonderful time. Jonathan is not the owner , he just managed the airbnb booking for Felix, the owner . Both are really nice, friendly and helpful. The area is perfect and nature is just around the corner. Location is pretty good, we always took a taxi to city which wasn't expensive at all. Breakfast was good ,beds are comfy and the house has got everything you need. All in all it was really good .
My husband & I stayed here for 2 nights and loved it! We had a car which was great because the walking distance to town and attractions are quite far. The cabina was exactly what we wanted and just how we imagined from the photos. The fan in the rooms were perfect for keeping us cool at night and the mornings were amazing as you are right on the edge of the jungle. We even had an armadillo walk by our patio one night! The kitchen was basic but had everything we needed and the tv & wifi was a nice addition. Breakfast each morning was amazing and the family were so friendly and kind. Highly recommend!
First and foremost, Jonathan is amazing, simply put. He was so quick to return my emails/texts, and even helped us book a zip lining tour at 10:30 pm the night before. He truly understands not only La Fortuna, but other areas of Costa Rica as well, and is willing to help however he can. I would very highly recommend him.
Now on to the Cabinas. They were exactly what we were looking for. A place that is clean, simple, and part of the ambiance of the area. We loved the location, and Felix, the owner, is a gem. This is a family owned business, they are honest, hardworking, and we felt very safe.
These Cabinas were very clean and comfortable for our stay. This is our first place we stayed and Costa Rica and it was fun to have a Real Costa Rica breakfast prepared by our host. We really enjoyed our host and they showed us the birds, animals and different fruits and plants on their property, you can tell they love their country and Cabinas. The Cabinas are not far from town, but recommend you have a car or taxi ride to town. The roads have no shoulders or sidewalks and it seems pretty dangerous to walk. The owners also did our Laundry for us each day.
Gorgeous place with beautiful garden, birds, river and views that I recommend to anyone looking for a quiet retreat in La Fortuna.
Unfortunately it did not match the description: Jonathan and his wife moved away from the place and Paradise Adventures are no longer onsite. Local host seemed really sweet but did not speak English so we could not communicate. There was no WIFI and since we do not speak Spanish, we could not ask the host for any information. Description should be updated so there is no wrong expectations and guests can enjoy the site, which is indeed idyllic.
Had a great time at the cabinas. Enjoyed the river behind the property immensely as well as the local sights. We were greeted by Jonnie upon our arrival who is a true champ and a real pleasure to speak with. He was happy to help us with whatever we needed and his wife Sophia is also great.
A short walk up the hill towards the waterfall you will find delicious cold coconuts for drinking at a dollar each. Also an even shorter walk up the hill is a nice little bar/restaurant (Casa Luna) with a daily happy hour between 5pm-7pm. The folks directly across the street sell cheap suds as well as fresh pressed sugar cane juice. His is also suppose to be in the process of opening up a fresh juice and smoothie bar in the near future.
Overall we liked the location and the proximity to everything. It's a nice walk to town and a $5 cab ride back.
