Interaction with Guests
The Host: Been Living in Costa Rica for 14 years, my experience and knowledge of the lifestyle, cultures and adventures is available to help others discover the Magic of La Fortuna and other parts of this special country.
La Fortuna is an enjoyable experience for all , with flowing rivers, natural hot springs, waterfalls, the 33 mile fresh water Lake Arenal, Cerro Chatto Crater Lake , butterfly gardens and a large variety of amenities. The many vacationers who find the Pure Vida return home feeling satisfied and relaxed.
Visitors can get to Fortuna by Bus, Car or Plane. The road from both of Costa Rica’s airports are paved, well marked and scenic. The plane is a 12 passenger that flies low allowing you to see Costa Rica’s beautiful landscapes; sit back and enjoy the many waterfalls, rivers and volcanoes.
The Arenal Volcano has its own National Park (Parque National Vulcan Arenal)
This almost 30,000 acre national park allows visitors to get an even better understanding of the Arenal Volcano and a much closer look. The Flora and fauna found it this primary rain forest is some of the newest on earth.
There are plenty of nature hikes in the area; the one I highly recommend is the climb to Cerro Chatto Lake. Vulcan Chatto is a dormant volcano; its crater is filled from hundreds of year of rain fall. It is an intense uphill hike to over 3,500 feet but I assure you it is worth every step of the way. Park hours are from 8am to 5pm
The La Fortuna Waterfall is another one of Mother Nature’s tours. Take a short 4klm hike from La Fortuna and you will be standing up top of the 230 foot waterfall. Gaze upon the power of water as it rolls of and dumps into the fresh rejuvenating pools bellow. Hike down the base to the pools to recharge, relax and take some photos. Waterfalls are open from 8-5pm
La Fortuna and all the amenities anyone could need is a 15 minute walk or 2 minute cab ride from the cabins.

A relaxing oasis in the jungle. Close enough to town to get there if you need. Across the road from a great chocolate tour. 5 min drive from La Fortuna waterfall. A bit of a hike down to the falls, but very worth it. Felix and his wife were very hospitable. Felix has lots of food out for birds so there is always something to look at if sitting close to reception. The grounds are very well kept with lots of different plants to see and photograph. The cabin itself is rustic with lots of gecko visitors and a bat! The balcony was very relaxing to hang out on.
This was my second visit to La Carata, and I will be back! The location is awesome, a jungle surrounding the cabinas is full of birds! The rooms are rustic, but have a decent bed, cable tv, wifi, and most important a balcony with a unique view!
Just down the street from the national park entrance to the waterfall, its easy to find!
As you arrive you're greeted with a tranquil laid back tican smile and get a close encounter with the visiting tame hummingbird! Anything you need can be provided, your welcomed to ask!
Jonathan is very helpful and can hook you up with a deal for any adventure you seek!
Awesome place! We walked up to the Cabinas from downtown La Fortuna. We were greeted warmly and given a tour of the property. Jonathan called within a few minutes of our arrival, offering his help if we needed anything. Very easy and enjoyable experience. Beautiful scenery. The cabins themselves have a lot of character. One of our favorite places we stayed on our trip!
Las cabinas las cataratas were amazing! Hidden away from the main town of La Fortuna, you are able to enjoy the peace and serenity that Costa Rica really has to offer. We were traveling as a group of 6 and the cabins were perfect. Jonathan was more than helpful with everything. He responded quickly when we needed directions, set up a white water rafting tour for us, as well as getting us a discount to Baldi hot springs (which was incredible). He has a ton of knowledge about the area and will make sure that your time spent in La Fortuna goes above and beyond expectation! I would recommend this stay to anyone, and if you're trying to figure out what to do in the area, Jonathan is your man!! 10/10.
My travelling companion and I needed a place at the end of April near La Fortuna/Arenal for two nights at the beginning of our trip to Costa Rica. Another friend told us that AirBnB was _the_ way to get very nice and affordable places to stay all over the world, so I decided to give it a try. I found the Cabinas La Catarata in my first search, liked the looks of the place from the pictures included in its listing, and so put in my request to book. The booking request was accepted very quickly, and the deal was made. I received a very pleasant AirBnB email from Jonathan welcoming us as future guests.
Upon prompting from AirBnB, I contacted Jonathan a couple of days before the beginning of our trip to get directions for how to find the place from the airport in San Jose. Jonathan sent detailed directions and let us know that he was looking forward to meeting us when we arrived.
We drove directly to the property from San Jose, and were met by the owners of the Cabinas, Felix Vargas and his wife Nena. Even though Felix did not speak English and I speak _very_ little Spanish, we had no problems getting checked-in and being shown a little of the property. We then drove to Jonathan's office at Paradise Adventures Costa Rica and had a nice time getting acquainted with Jonathan and his wife. Jonathan relived his story about how he lived in the Cabinas where we would be staying for several months when he first came to Costa Rica from Canada, and how he was helping Felix by taking care of adversing the property on AirBnB, a gesture that we were moved by.
The Cabinas La Catarata are very nice albeit a little rustic, and they are only a kilometer from La Fortuna where there are lots of restaurants, bars, grocery stores and sights of interest. Our two night stay in the Cabinas were very pleasant, and we were surprised by the lack of mosquitoes even though the area is lush from frequent rains. The stay was made even more enjoyable by the availability of wireless Internet access (we had some prep work that needed to be done before our return to San Jose). Breakfast was very nice on the porch that surrounds the house where Felix, Nena, their son Gabriel and adopted daughter Emanuell live.
All-in-all, we enjoyed our stay at this property and would both consider re-booking it if we are ever lucky enough to re-visit the Arenal area.
