The space

The "Scuderia" is on the first floor of a building used in the past as stable and is separated from the central block of the villa, with its position forming the inner square of the village.
The house is furnished with antique furniture and boasts stunning views of the countryside and the park with the cedar trees.
From the entrance on the ground floor furnished in antique style you have access to the first floor in the living room, with a view of the square with the old church. The apartment consists of a large living - dining room with fireplace, kitchen, bathroom with shower , bedroom with matrimonial bed, bedroom with twin beds and bedroom with single bed. It can host 5 persons. The large garden of the house offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside and the nearby town of Siena, with its famous monuments.
The farmhouse has antique furniture, respecting the Tuscan tradition, and from its windows you can have breathtaking views of the estate. The area is served by buses leading to town and the village of Costalpino is just one kilometer away.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the Reception for any information they may need or to use the computer if they haven't got one. They will also have access to the church, should they need to pay a visit for a prayer or spiritual moment.
The winery, wine shop and souvenir shops are also accessible to our guests. Please ask Mrs Graciela to show them to you.

Interaction with guests

I 'm not always in Certano, but when I'm there I always try to interact with my guests and show them our property

The neighborhood

I love the area around the villa and the whole property because it's like being in a picture: the shapes and colours of the surroundings vary so much in the different periods of the year!
Hues of gree, yellow and brown make up a stunning lanscape.

Getting around

The exact address is: Strada di Certano Costalpino-SIENA. Please pay attention, because some tourists went in the wrong place!
The bus stop to and from Siena is just at the end of the pleasant dirt road leading to Certano and the trip to town is only 10 minutes.
Siena is served by Florence and Pisa airports.
Here are the indications to reach our place by car from Pisa airport.
Take the highway indicated as FI-PI-LI and go till Empoli.
At Empoli follow for Poggibonsi and proceed along the Firenze-Siena freeway till you reach the exit named Siena Ovest.
Here are the indications to reach our place by car.
A1 from the North
Exit at Firenze Impruneta, follow until you reach the Firenze-Siena freeway and exit at Siena Ovest.
At the Siena Ovest exit, take the SS 73 towards Massa Marittima -Roccastrada passing the villages of Costafabbri and Costalpino. One kilometer after Costalpino, you’ll see a church on your right and a large building on your left. After about 50 meters on your right you’ll see a street with a sign that reads Certano. Take that dirt road and always keep left, follow the tree lined road which leads to the park of the Certano villa. The Reception is behind the villa.
A1 from the South
Exit at Bettolle, enter the Perugia-Siena-Firenze freeway heading in the direction of Siena and follow until you see the exit for Siena Ovest.
On request, you can book breakfast and/or a typical Tuscan dinner.

In the property there is parking under the shade.

Other things to note

The nearby village of Costalpino provides all you may need: supermarket, post office, doctor, bar, pastry shop, ATM location, chemist, tobacconist, hairdresser, beauty center.

This was one of the best places I ever stayed. Amazing villa with a history and spirit. But the hosts are even more amazing. The rooms and furnishing done with such a taste and Italian spirit. Graziella was a outstanding, very nice and always there to help with anything. Annalisa was very responsive. Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit Tuscany. Thank you - Graziella and Annalisa - for this marvelous experience. Hope we will come back sometime. It was a place I felt me at home.

This was perfect for our first 2 nights in Italy! Quiet, clean and beautiful. Loved every minute of our stay. Five hot showers all in a row was impressive! And we sat outside at the table and chairs and enjoyed our morning coffee overlooking the Tuscan hills. Lovely! Thank you!

I simply can't express how wonderful our stay was! Annalisa was not in town, but she still responded to our calls immediately every time and left us in the extremely capable hands of Graziella. After a very difficult travel experience, Annalisa and Graziella were very patient with our delayed arrival. We were so late that everything in Siena and the town of Costalpino was closed, so Graziella supplied us with food from her own home for both dinner and breakfast the following morning! When a companion was taken ill, they were flexible with our checkout time and even willing to allow us to stay an extra night if necessary. I am truly grateful for everything they did for us—they went above and beyond and saved our trip! The apartment itself was absolutely lovely. Separate from the hotel, we had plenty of quiet and privacy. The view from the bedroom windows were worth the entire trip. There was enough seating for all of us at the dinner table, comfortable couches for all of us in the living room area, they had everything we needed in the kitchen. They even provided a stereo with a nice variety of music for us to enjoy. Oh, and by far the best shower. My only caveat is that without a car it can be a bit costly traveling to and from Siena by taxi (taxis did arrive promptly within 10 minutes each time and were very friendly). It is not a safe walk to the town of Costalpino to catch the bus due to winding roads and traffic, though the town itself was very welcoming. We stayed in several AirBNB locations throughout Italy during our trip, all very nice, but my girlfriends and I agree this was by far the best—I can't wait to return.

We had a great time at the apartment in Certano! Annalisa was great at keeping in contact before we arrived and answering any questions we had. Graciela was the lady who met us and showed us around the property and was also available if we needed anything during our stay. She was so kind and gracious. The place was beautiful--really idyllic and what you'd imagine when you think of Tuscany. Our kids loved being able to explore the grounds, but we were also near Siena so we could go into town and see the sights. We enjoyed breakfast in the old kitchen and the highlight was the traditional Tuscan dinner (it is extra to book but well worth it!) and the wine from their vineyards was also excellent. The only complaint is that we were going to use the bus station nearby to go into town, but we would have had to walk on a busy road with no path or shoulder...not ideal with two small children. Graciela was kind enough to call us a taxi the two times we went into Siena. The apartment itself was amazing and filled with Tuscan charm. We had a very relaxing time and only wish we could have stayed longer!

My name is Annalisa Baldassarrini, I am a descendant of the Baldassarrini family who lived for centuries in the estate of Certano. I'm responsible for the management, maintenance and care of the houses and apartments that we rent. Fishing out things here and there from the rooms of the ancient villa of Certano, I tried to restore the flavor of the houses. In the days when I was a little girl and I used to go and visit the farmers in the houses we now open to tourists. I really like going to the flea markets in search of old objects and furniture to embellish our homes and create a true Tuscan atmosphere. I enjoy growing lavander and love creativity in general, and in the store I opened under the stable I create scented sachets and various crafts to offer to our guests. I'm keen on painting, decoupage, embroidery and creativity in general. Certano makes me feel good because it enhances my artistic side!
