Interaction with Guests
We will be in and out of the house during your stay - going about our lives, either at work, hiking, playing tennis, bike riding, etc. We will check with you each evening to see if you need directions or information. At that time we can also visit with you regarding our recommendations for how to enjoy beautiful Boone year round. We can offer you a glass of wine or a cup of tea as we chat if you like. Or, if you prefer to spend your time in solitude, just let us know and we can respect that.
Our neighborhood is great! We have wonderful neighbors and know them well. We often socialize with them. That said, the houses are far apart and our house is most quiet and serene, even on the front porch. Our neighborhood has mature trees and plants. Our home is very close to Rocky Knob bike park and not too far to some tremendous hiking trails. We can advise you about trail head locations, length and difficulty of most local hikes. We are festival goers and can advise about Grandfather Games, Merlefest, local restaurants, museums, and much more. Just ask! We've lived here 11 years and are happy to call Boone home!
Parking is included with your stay. Four-wheel drive is recommended for our road and driveway in the winter. You will need your car to enjoy Boone and surrounding destinations. We can advise about the use of mass transit around Boone (called Appalcart).
Other Things to Note
Our house is home to a house cat (Freya). The basement suite is a pet free zone, so you'll find it clean and free of pet hair/dander. Please understand our house is older, and there are some creaky floorboards. Parking is at a premium here. When you check in, you will be assigned a place to park. Please use only that spot to avoid blocking us or another guest from exiting the driveway easily.
Quiet hours between 11 pm and 7 am
Absolutely no smoking on the property.
Absolutely no pets.
Please provide the exact number of guests in your reservation. Once we book with you our agreement with you is for that exact number and no add-on guests to your party will be accepted. Also, we ask that you do not bring anyone back with you to our home. (This might seem peculiar, but it happened to us once, so we feel the need to state our stance on it here).
I've stayed with Karen and Tommy before, and although they couldn't be there this time, the room and setting were as lovely as ever. They were even nice enough to leave us some muffins, coffee, and guidebooks on the area (the muffins were delicious, by the way)!
This was my first time staying in the basement suite, and I loved how spacious it and the bathroom were. The temperature was very comfortable, the bed was plush, and the downstairs den was a lovely place to unwind.
I love the proximity to Boone and Blowing Rock, and there's still the privacy and seclusion that a mountain neighborhood provides. Everybody in the area was positively wonderful towards my girlfriend and I, even offering to help us when we had a little car trouble.
I can't think of a better place to stay or better people to stay with, if you're looking for a chance to experience a wonderful mountain town. Karen and Tommy are definitely my go-to people for visits to Boone, and I hope to stay with them again soon.
My friend Angela and I stayed here on a recent girls trip. Karen was a gracious, helpful, and communicative host. We had some great conversations, breakfast/muffins and coffee. We had a lovely time staying here and enjoyed all that this place had to offer. We liked that this place was close to town (Boone/Blowing Rock) and close enough to the nearby ski resorts. We appreciated having our own entrance as we were in and out a lot. We would stay again in the future.
Karen and Tommy are delightful hosts and made us feel welcome and at home. Tommy has extensive local knowledge. Their home is located in a lovely location, surrounded by trees in temperate rainforest. The deck area is really gorgeous.
She told me to make myself at home. Everything is nice here, and very quiet.
We stayed with Karen and Tommy just one night so that we could visit some former Airbnb guests of ours in Boone with whom we have stayed friendly. Karen was great to communicate with and arranged to leave work to meet us at her home at a time that was convenient for us. The accommodation were great, comfortable bed spotless bathroom and very quiet at night. The following morning we had a delicious full breakfast that Karen made us as we chatted and shared Airbnb experiences. Wonderful host and thoroughly recommended to fellow Airbnb'ers. Derek & Leon
We greatly enjoyed our stay - great to chat with Karen and Tom - they made us very welcome - their home is lovely and comfortable - convenient to town and beautifully set in the foothills - very relaxing to sit on the porch with coffee, visit and enjoy the view.
The hosts are the most delightful folks one will ever meet. Karen is intelligent, humorous and very knowledgeable about the area. Her husband, Tommy, is well connected in the community, a local historian and a Blue Grass aficionado/expert/historian. The apartment is clean, quiet (it is a basement apartment with no outside influences - be careful - you will sleep eighteen hours) and comfortable. If one is wishing solitude there is a semi-private entrance in the garage. Karen provided a social event each morning during which she served fresh breakfast on the deck overlooking the beautiful mountain-scape. Heaven upon earth.

We are empty-nesters since our two kids are away at college. Our friends have jokingly called our house their own private B&B for years, and one of them even named it for us: The Browna Divina. We have a sweet little guest room & private bath upstairs on our main level OR a basement suite with a private entrance for your use, but when you stay with us, you are welcome to use our living room, den, kitchen, and fabulous porch! On weekday mornings we offer a continental breakfast, but on the weekend mornings you can choose from omelets, pancakes,, or eggs cooked to order. We are interested in hosting people who want to come enjoy Boone! We can advise you on hiking trails, dining in the high country, ski resorts, and local events and help you plan your days while you are here. Come stay with us!
