About this listing
Located in OKC's most eclectic/bohemian neighborhood and within walking distance to the City's premier shopping/dining and entertainment along the Western Ave Corridor. The Inn is a lovingly restored 1920's bungalow located in the center of an all organic ornamental and vegetable garden.
Meadowbrook Acres is the neighborhood. The Inn was built in 1923 as a guest cabin for the main house which was also a cabin but larger. Restored to it's original exterior and rebuilt interior to modern comfort and efficiency. The Inn is decorated with special family pieces mixed with modern comfort. Open windows with garden views and abundant light, this little place will do nothing but uplift your spirits and calm your heart.
The garden provides pathways, many individual and unique spaces for relaxing day or night with amazing lighting, water features and whimsical art. Relax in the hot-tub or on the private deck on the back of the Inn. To venture out, I-44 is just around the corner to connect you with the City at large. Less than five minutes walk or a quick ride on the provided vintage bike (use at your own risk) is the up-scale Classen Curve shopping district, Whole Foods Market and the Penn Square Mall.
Interaction with Guests
The Inn is a completely private and separate bungalow from the main house where I and my partner Jim live with the exception of two of the most amazing doggies that will amuse you with each pass. The garden is shared of course. Join me and my friends on Wednesday evenings for entertainment and fellowship in the garden if you wish. Walls of bamboo and architectural elements provide complete privacy.
Meadowbrook Acres was platted in the early 1920's as 'lake homes' for the then Belle Isle lake and amusement park where Penn Square Mall and the big box stores now exist. Many of the original cabins have been lovingly restored and the Bamboo Inn and main house are perfect examples. Today, ultra contemporary higher-density residential living is melting into the mix of an awesome inner-city neighborhood.
Metro Bus Service is available a block away on Classen Blvd. Not available after 10pm and Sunday's. OKC has awesome taxi services and VFH companies such as Lyft and Uber are available. Public Transportation is limited in OKC so a car or bike is still the best way to get around. However, within easy walking distance is OKC's finest dining, entertainment and shopping at the Classen Curve, Penn Square and the Western Avenue Corridor.
Other Things to Note
For four years the Inn was exclusively for housing Matthew Kenney culinary students who visited from around the world and lived in the Inn for two week or one month stays. An amazing experience that unfortunately ended when the Culinary Academy moved to California. I have extensive experience hosting the Inn and have loved hosting exclusively on AirBnB for over a year with a 'Super Host' status.
The interior of the Bamboo Inn is non-smoking however smoking is permitted anywhere on the property. I am unable to host dogs or pets of any kind because Duncan and Myrtle already live here. Although, I am willing to discuss special circumstances. Quiet time outside begins at 10:30 pm. Showering before entering the hot tub is mandatory to maintain a fresh and clean environment. Keeping the entrance gate closed and latched at all times is important so we don't have doggies escape on expedition.
The Bamboo Inn is the most charming, clever, well-appointed, and delightful place I've ever stayed! The entire place is amazing, and Rob & Jim are incredibly hospitable. If I ever make it back through the OKC area, I will not hesitate to see if it's available.
Suffice it to say, this was our second trip of significant duration to OKC and the fact that we rebooked with Rob and Jim at The Bamboo Inn speaks volumes. These two gentlemen are incredibly welcoming and go to great lengths to find the right balance between being hospitable and nonintrusive. They are there when you need them and welcome you into their world of incredible local friends, but are completely sensitive to your needs and preferences. I can't imagine going to any other airbnb location and sitting around a firepit with our hosts and their friends only to discover an opera singer on my left and a city planner on my right while watching bottles of good wine appear -- seemingly out of thin air. You will find yourself rechecking the street address to insure you are not at home.
I can't think of enough enthusiastic adjectives to describe my stay at the Bamboo Inn! I was in Oklahoma City for my dad's memorial service and wanted a peaceful retreat to return to after an emotional day and the Bamboo Inn fit the bill and then some.
The space was immaculate, the decor was delightful, and the grounds were unbelievable. Peaceful sitting nooks created with bamboo, fountains, a bubbling brook-when we arrived, I just wandered around in awe of the magical retreat that had been created in the city. I was invited to join the awesome hosts and their sweet dogs around the fire in the evening, and their kindness and humor was a perfect end to an eventful day. The Bamboo Inn would be worth a trip to OKC for and I can't wait to stay there again!
Wow, this place is truly magical! After walking through the lush and enchanting garden we opened the door to our little house and were ready to move in! They have everything you can possibly imagine there including a washer/dryer, microwave, fridge, clean newish cooking supplies, and an entertaining area /bar with an antique martini set! If we EVER come back to OK city, we are going straight to this place. I would imagine it would also be especially good for long stays. Fortunately, we stayed on a Wednesday night and were invited to join the hosts and their guests for drinks around the fire. We really enjoyed learning more about OK from the friendly folks of the neighborhood and look forward to returning to this oasis in this special city.
Also a major plus- there is a whole foods walking distance from the house ! :)
There are not enough superlatives to describe this place. It is conveniently located off I-44 which means anywhere in OKC is easily accessible. Rob has made this an enchanted oasis. I can't imagine a more welcoming and gracious host. The place itself is quiet, clean and serene. Having stayed there once, I can't imagine staying anywhere else in OKC. Thanks, Rob: your place is amazing.
The Bamboo Inn was great. After a long drive, it was a pleasure to arrive at such a welcoming place. There is a convenient, designated parking spot on the property with direct access to the cottage via a short walk through the well tended garden. The compact cottage has lots of character with a comfortable seating area and separate bedroom. Rob was flexible and accommodating when our late arrival time was unexpectedly delayed several hours. The Inn is on a street with well tended homes and the location is convenient to downtown. I wish we could have spent several nights and the Bamboo Inn and I look forward to the ability to do so on our next visit to Oklahoma City.
this was the best AIRbnb stay we have ever had... wonderful hosts and absolutely fabulous accommodations and garden ambiance

About the Host, Rob
My partner Jim and I operate a residential remodeling business from design to build and completion. We appreciate using repurposed materials in all of our projects from clients to our AirBnB venues and in the gardens. All organic, using less stuff and repurposing in a creative way is our goal. We love our doggies and gardening is our passion. Our most rewarding experiences though are hosting our unique and exclusively AirBnB listed properties.
