Located in OKC's most eclectic/bohemian neighborhood and within walking distance to the City's premier shopping/dining and entertainment along the Western Ave Corridor. The Inn is a lovingly restored 1920's bungalow located in the center of an all organic ornamental and vegetable garden.
Meadowbrook Acres is the neighborhood. The Inn was built in 1923 as a guest cabin for the main house which was also a cabin but larger. Restored to it's original exterior and rebuilt interior to modern comfort and efficiency. The Inn is decorated with special family pieces mixed with modern comfort. Open windows with garden views and abundant light, this little place will do nothing but uplift your spirits and calm your heart.
The garden provides pathways, many individual and unique spaces for relaxing day or night with amazing lighting, water features and whimsical art. Relax in the hot-tub or on the private deck on the back of the Inn. To venture out, I-44 is just around the corner to connect you with the City at large. Less than five minutes walk or a quick ride on the provided vintage bike (use at your own risk) is the up-scale Classen Curve shopping district, Whole Foods Market and the Penn Square Mall.
The Inn is a completely private and separate bungalow from the main house where I live alone with the exception of three of the most amazing doggies that will amuse you with each pass. The garden is shared of course. Join me and my friends on Wednesday evenings for entertainment and fellowship in the garden if you wish. Walls of bamboo and architectural elements provide complete privacy.
Meadowbrook Acres was platted in the early 1920's as 'lake homes' for the then Belle Isle lake and amusement park where Penn Square Mall and the big box stores now exist. Many of the original cabins have been lovingly restored and the Bamboo Inn and main house are perfect examples. Today, ultra contemporary higher-density residential living is melting into the mix of an awesome inner-city neighborhood.
Metro Bus Service is available at the base of 56th on Western Ave. Not available after 10pm and Sunday's. Public Transportation is limited in OKC so a car or bike is still the best way to get around. However, within easy walking distance is OKC's finest dining, entertainment and shopping at the Classen Curve, Penn Square and the Western Avenue Corridor.
For the past four years the Inn has been exclusively for housing Matthew Kenney culinary students who visited from around the world and lived in the Inn for two week or one month stays. An amazing experience that unfortunately ended when the Culinary Academy moved to California. I have extensive experience hosting the Inn and welcome the opportunity to host on AirBnB.
Our stay was incredible at the Bamboo Inn. Rob was a welcoming and gracious host to my family (including our toddler). We were blown away by the beautiful garden and thoughtful surroundings. We felt safe, comfortable and satisfied with our stay. The location is terrifically placed in a quiet, eclectic neighborhood near a major road. We will look to the Bamboo Inn each time we visit OKC.
Perfect experience. It's a fun, artsy cottage in a beautiful garden. Rob thought of every detail in the cottage. He was friendly and answered all our gardening questions; we left wanting to replicate some of his style in our home and garden. It was a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We'll be back, for sure.
It's pretty hard to imagine that the Bamboo Inn could live up to its reviews. I was skeptical, but figured...hey, it looks sweet. I gotta say, Rob and his place are beyond anything I'd ever experience, and I'm a 10 year veteran of (website hidden), (website hidden), etc. Its character, warmth and comfort all take their cue from Rob, who has built & furnished his little getaway with love and a stylish flair all his own. It was all it appears to be, and more. I'm coming back!
Rob has created such a peaceful refuge and I am so grateful that he makes it available. The Inn was extremely easy to find and is located in a charming, safe neighborhood with a Whole Foods within (very brief) walking distance and a Starbucks within a minute or two drive. Rob himself is such a thoughtful, kind host. He's got an effervescent personality that makes you feel instantly at home and I very much enjoyed talking with him and playing with Myrtle, his sweet rescued basset hound. The Inn is beautifully crafted, well-appointed, and filled with neat little decorating details that show a lot of care. It seemed much larger than I was expecting from the photos and my entire stay felt downright luxurious. I only wish I'd picked a warmer time so I could have read a book on the deck and explored more of the enormous, lush yard. Thank you so much for having me. I will definitely be back.
I was fixing my house that was damaged in the freeze. It was a stressful trip, but rob's place was roomy and inspiring. He allowed my kids to play in his yard, which was festive. His kitchen was fun and the fridge fit all of our sandwich fixings plus milk and juice ( you really can walk to the whole foods).
There was instant soup and oatmeal, and a bunch of granola bars. Really awesome to not have to dash out for breakfast. My train came in late and he had stayed up to greet us and tell us "the rules" 1) don't leave the gate open 2) have fun.
There was a really cool cd in the CD player.
It was just a cool experience.
The washer/dryer comes in really handy, too of you're staying a few days.
This is a party place. If you don't have kids you will have unlimited adult fun. Kids were a stretch, but Rob was so accommodating and his dogs are very sweet and bring a smiley to your face when you wake up to find them peeking at you through the sliding door.
Great stay. Next time I'll come alone, study his gardens, and bring a book and my wine stash. :)).
Rob was such a kind and thoughtful host! I loved the Bamboo Inn. It's charming, modern, and so comfortable. Everything you need is here - kitchen, washer-dryer, patio to sit in the sun, bicycle, even a hot tub! The casita has been lovingly decorated. I felt very at home here.
Rob ranks as high as they come! His immediate response to my booking; ease with our late arrival; checking in via email every couple of days; plus a mad dash with me to the Post Office for a botched delivery, all speak of just the right amount of attention, with total privacy in his Bamboo Inn. And just let me say how extraordinary it is to find this nurturing oasis hidden within one of OKC's "hottest" - and coolest - commercial areas. I booked one week. Due to my mother's health and other circumstances, it's 2 weeks + today! Having my own "home" has made a challenging situation far easier. Thanks, Rob! I the Bamboo Inn, and will be back soon!!
Rob was a great host! He is warm and very accommodating. Since it was Valentine's Day weekend, he had even gotten us a box of chocolates--so kind! The Inn had everything we needed and more. It was comfortable and had so many fun touches that gave it a great eclectic vibe. Rob has obviously but a lot of love into the Inn! The property surrounding the Bamboo Inn is also beautiful, even in the winter. I can only imagine what it looks like in the spring! I will certainly stay here again when I'm in Oklahoma City.
My recent stay at The Bamboo Inn was MAGICAL !!!!!!! Rob was a super host and made us so comfortable. It was everything it was advertised to be and MORE. The property had such wonderful character and the "casita" was brilliantly appointed. Anyone who stays here will discover a real gem! The location was great too. Lots of fun places to eat nearby in every price range. One would be hard-pressed to find a more awesome accommodation.
Rob is an incredible designer! His two homes sit on the most amazing piece of land that if full of edible plants . He has 4 dogs that are super sweet and really make you feel at home. It's close to the best part of town and you can walk to many places! I hope to go back soon;)
