About This Listing
Located in OKC's most eclectic/bohemian neighborhood and within walking distance to the City's premier shopping/dining and entertainment along the Western Ave Corridor. The Inn is a lovingly restored 1920's bungalow located in the center of an all organic ornamental and vegetable garden.
Meadowbrook Acres is the neighborhood. The Inn was built in 1923 as a guest cabin for the main house which was also a cabin but larger. Restored to it's original exterior and rebuilt interior to modern comfort and efficiency. The Inn is decorated with special family pieces mixed with modern comfort. Open windows with garden views and abundant light, this little place will do nothing but uplift your spirits and calm your heart.
The garden provides pathways, many individual and unique spaces for relaxing day or night with amazing lighting, water features and whimsical art. Relax in the hot-tub or on the private deck on the back of the Inn. To venture out, I-44 is just around the corner to connect you with the City at large. Less than five minutes walk or a quick ride on the provided vintage bike (use at your own risk) is the up-scale Classen Curve shopping district, Whole Foods Market and the Penn Square Mall.
Interaction with Guests
The Inn is a completely private and separate bungalow from the main house where I and my partner Jim live with the exception of two of the most amazing doggies that will amuse you with each pass. The garden is shared of course. Join me and my friends on Wednesday evenings for entertainment and fellowship in the garden if you wish. Walls of bamboo and architectural elements provide complete privacy.
Meadowbrook Acres was platted in the early 1920's as 'lake homes' for the then Belle Isle lake and amusement park where Penn Square Mall and the big box stores now exist. Many of the original cabins have been lovingly restored and the Bamboo Inn and main house are perfect examples. Today, ultra contemporary higher-density residential living is melting into the mix of an awesome inner-city neighborhood.
Metro Bus Service is available a block away on Classen Blvd. Not available after 10pm and Sunday's. OKC has awesome taxi services and VFH companies such as Lyft and Uber are available. Public Transportation is limited in OKC so a car or bike is still the best way to get around. However, within easy walking distance is OKC's finest dining, entertainment and shopping at the Classen Curve, Penn Square and the Western Avenue Corridor.
Other Things to Note
For four years the Inn was exclusively for housing Matthew Kenney culinary students who visited from around the world and lived in the Inn for two week or one month stays. An amazing experience that unfortunately ended when the Culinary Academy moved to California. I have extensive experience hosting the Inn and have loved hosting exclusively on AirBnB for over a year with a 'Super Host' status.
The interior of the Bamboo Inn is non-smoking however smoking is permitted anywhere on the property. I am unable to host dogs or pets of any kind because Duncan and Myrtle already live here. Although, I am willing to discuss special circumstances. Quiet time outside begins at 10:30 pm. Showering before entering the hot tub is mandatory to maintain a fresh and clean environment. Keeping the entrance gate closed and latched at all times is important so we don't have doggies escape on expedition.
This place is amazing and a real gem! The garden is spectacular, Rob is really friendly, and the accommodations were clean, comfortable and charming. The only downside was that we only had one night here and my daughter won't stop asking when we get to go back!
The on-line description and photos of the Bamboo Inn were compelling enough to entice us into staying there however after arriving we realized immediately that what we thought we would find there paled in comparison to the actuality of what the property really looked like and how wonderful were our hosts...everything excelled and exceeded our expectations. The beauty and uniqueness of the grounds...hospitality AND personalities of Rob and Jim were over the top...and our bungalow was enchanting and matched all our needs. We'll go back time and again.
First and foremost, we apologize for the 20 fingernail marks across the garden and down the street where they had to forcibly drag us away from The Bamboo Inn. In our defense, we want to say it is all Rob's fault . . . for having created such a wonderful oasis of tranquility in the midst of Oklahoma City hustle and bustle. With access to everything and total escape from the same, The Bamboo Inn was a phenomenal choice and we give it (and Rob and Jim) our highest personal endorsement. I am almost tempted to write a bad review just to increase our chances of rebooking and its availability. The Inn has everything, living room, kitchen, bedroom, bar, deck and its own alarm system. The alarm system is absolutely unnecessary and Rob and Jim are great protectors of the sanctity, security and privacy of "your Inn" during your stay. They simply could NOT have been more accommodating or caring. We particularly enjoyed their warmth and genuine concern for our well-being. The Wednesday night fellowship nights were fun in the garden or on the party deck where we shared stories and developed a great friendship which we know will endure. We plan to return in the fall and can't thank them enough for offering up such a bit of nirvana to travelers passing through. Ten days was just not enough.
Rob was a wonderful gracious host. This was an oasis of solitude and bliss. My wife Dawn and I enjoyed having a place to settle in and into prior to my Book Reading and Signing. Even though it was wet from recent rains, the gardens exhibited unique finds and surprises with each bend of the path.
The Bamboo Inn was fabulous. It was our first experience with airbnb and we couldn't have had it better. The privacy was great. The details to attention was perfect. Very accommodating. The garden was surprising, I can't even explain it (Bamboo a-Mazing). Rob was a gracious host, not to intrusive, just enough to make you feel welcome. Hot tub paradise! Price was too unbelievable for what you get.
The Bamboo Inn was just as described. The house itself was very nice, and the exterior gardens are very beautiful. Rob was a nice host. I could recommend, and would be pleased to stay again.
About the Host, Rob
My partner Jim and I operate a residential remodeling business from design to build and completion. We appreciate using repurposed materials in all of our projects from clients to our AirBnB venues and in the gardens. All organic, using less stuff and repurposing in a creative way is our goal. We love our doggies and gardening is our passion. Our most rewarding experiences though are hosting our unique and exclusively AirBnB listed properties.
